Not sure there's a huge benefit from our side in sending him out on loan. We need squad players and its not like a season at Pompey is likely to make him a better player.

Last season of his contract through so if its a loan with a view to a permanent move might not be the worst thing for him.

He’s desperately short of confidence, and as a consequence ( at least in part ) no where near what we need right now.

If they contribute a chunk of his wages that might free up some room in the budget for us to make another signing.

Personally I don't think that would be a bad move for him, unless Pompey were to get promoted this year.

I Think he peaked when in League One and thought he'd struggle in the championship, which I think I was right in calling.

Was most surprised when Westbrooke left last summer and Shipley stayed, and think now they both would have benefitted from moving on.

Nice guy, City kid but if we want to go places, it's gonna have to be without players like him.

Would love for him to perform at the level he's best suited to as that he does deserve

Shipley one of the most frustrating players from the academy in recent years for me, bags of talent and scores goals, but doesn’t tackle and too lightweight. Think we need to be looking at players above his level of we want to
Progress now, so would see his chances become less and less here… but credit where it’s due , he played a major part in both our promotions & cup win, decent return for goal scoring midfielder every season… would be a good signing for any league 1 club & maybe even lower end championship.

Not sure what he's still doing at the club to be honest. Well below the level required and his fake tackling dance is fucking embarrasing.

Some good memories from league 2, but I feel like he's only still here because he's a local lad. Hope he gets a move somewhere and does really well, but I cringe when I see him play for us these days.

Would be sad to see him go, but for his career it's probably the better move for him.
I still want him to smash one in for us, it's just his fitness that is the problem.
If he can sort his fitness out i want him to stay as a good player who can come on when we need a goal and get one.

I will be sad to see him leave, but maybe our success and his lack of fitness just don't go together.
If he can get match fit i would keep him, not because he is one of our own but he scores goals, loves us (so should help with team morale) and helps with a squad when we don't have much money.

Pretty shit comments about a local lad who’s done well at the club. Needs to move on but not exactly hurting anyone, nor is he on a massive wages.
Good luck to him

there aren’t half some dickheads around- “I’ll take him there”, “take him for free”, as if he’s a dangerous liability. Then again Allen was in the bomb squad a couple of weeks ago by plenty, all very fickle.

Agreed, as frustrating as he was sometimes, he was part of the team that gave us the best period we have had in a loooooong time, and scored critical goals through all of that… how anyone could feel that level of distain for a player that was major part of our recent success, and a local lad too, is a little baffling

100%. It’s not like we paid money and he was a flop. Just a lad from the academy, who’s done really well. Scored in the play off final. Scored a worldie winner away at Donny when we got promoted. Scored plenty of other big goals.

He’s not a championship player at the moment, but the abuse is a joke.

Not to sound like an obituary, but for most of us, he’s lived of our dream.

Hope things work out for him if he stays or goes he's only 23 and scored some memorable goals for us people who slag him off don't do him any favours

If Shipley had O'Hare's level of fitness he'd be a top player, (premier League if he could tackle 🤣🤣) but the truth is he's blowing out his arse after 30 mins. Love the guy but I just don't think he can cut it above league 1.

Better player than what’s portrayed on here and with better players around him could well perform better himself, stuck at it last year in a team weakened with injuries.

Some very sensitive people on here who cannot take basic criticism of Shipley. He has been extremely poor for a long time and his attitude on the pitch undoes any of the positive attributes he has.

Comparing him to Allen is fine, but for the fact Allen has taken it on the chin and worked hard to be better. What had 'shipperz' done? Pretend to tackle and then make deliberate late fouls to make it look like he's doing something. Being local has clouded some people's vision. There's nothing wrong in wishing him well, but he is well below what we require.

Yep exactly how I see it. If he wasn’t a local lad fans would have had him gone a long time ago. Genuinely think he is a league 2 footballer. Will obviously wish him well wherever he goes but I hope he’s played his last game for us as harsh as that may sound

Bunch of harsh cunts on here, no need to revel in it if he does leave.

The guy has given his all for the club, scored some important and memorable goals,. He has been a big part of the resurrection of this club. A local lad that has seen 2 promotions and scored at Wembley. If he has hit his ceiling then that's fine but to be honest we can't give him minutes to prove otherwise.

No need to be dicks about it

I think that's the point, people see him come on and not give his all.

Player with the most appearances under Robins (122), our most successful gaffer in the modern era but yeah Shipley's shit. Every member of the squad is important for us with our budget. He's got his strengths and weaknesses like every member of the squad, the team is more than the sum of its parts and that's why he's at the club- to play his part when needed. Also being from cov DOES count for something so why are people turning that into a stick to beat him with? Gave us some great memories so far up the Shipperz one of our own

Or maybe we have out grown him and he has found the step up hard, whatever it might be we can't give him the time to prove any different. He is blatantly not lazy and he loves the club. If he moves on then I'd class him as a really good servant to the club who help massively get us back to where we are.

This isn't really a late push they've wanted him a while. There are also other suitors including from the Championship too and at least one has made a bid for a permanent move, not yet accepted, showing other managers and scouts believe he can do it at this level. Not certain what valuation the club want or if add ons etc, but if not then a short term loan to get some minutes wouldn't be a bad idea.

However, with Eccles injured until Christmas, Kelly not yet back, Howley not quite ready and no guarantees from Jodi or Bright to be sustained performers, we're only an injury or suspension from being very light in there. I suspect even if they are prepared to let him go, that we'd need a replacement lined up first.

Promotion season, let’s not be too harsh… he frustrates the hell ot of me because I felt that if he could tackle and get stuck in, he’d be a player… still Massively instrumental in our recent success. Lots of teams would benefit from him, another academy success really I guess

You’ve made all of this up. Shipley not been good enough, but questioning his character and attitude?

Plus not many I’ve seen think he is good enough, so I don’t know who you’re appealing to. Most folk are saying what you’re saying but just valuing his contribution and the fact he’s from the academy.

He hasn’t played in the league yet, so nobody has seen him come on and do anything, you are making things up again, and also seemingly getting yourself mixed up between ability and attitude.

No problem in people assessing that he doesn’t have what it takes in the Championship, but the ridicule and idiotic comments which you’re sticking up for are a bit weird, not sure what he’s done to deserve it. Always has to be someone to shit on I guess.

Good luck to the guy wherever he goes.
