With all the speculation about Bottas, Perez hasn't really progressed through the season. Started OK, but hasn't got any closer to Verstappen and, if anything, seems to have gone backwards a bit. Was slightly surprised they renewed him tbh, guess the new regs went in his favour as he's pretty experienced so could be useful in developing a brand new car.

Yea agree, not been impressed at all

I have a horrible feeling about Eau Rouge today. The amount of accidents there this weekend seemingly serving as a warning. And in this weather......

That's why they can't take any risks, especially this circuit. Otherwise you end up with the kind of situation they had here in 1998 with cars all ploughing into each other because they can't see or stop even if they can.

No spare cars of course these days so something that wipes out half the grid stays that way unlike 98 where a number of them did make a restart. What a race that was by the way.

I'm a bit confused how they're letting Perez into the race. I always assumed if you didn't make it back to garage on the recon lap and the race starts, which it technically has because we have 43 laps and not 44, that was it and you were out.

Then again, this is a highly unprecedented situation. So, who really knows.....

Edit: and now we're looking at 39 laps, and not the 43 which all the timing screens show. Shall we call it a draw and go home!?

So would Perez be 4 laps behind if he started?
If it's abandoned now isn't 4 laps enough for half points?

One lap was taken off because of the 2nd lap behind the safety car according to Masi.
Yep, that's one lap to take it down to 43, four laps taken off for the delayed starts, so only run one lap.

So now they've suspended the three hour event clock, which has an hour left. The 2 hour race clock hasn't started.

I think.....

Yeah they don't make it easy.

In the olden days they'd have just raced. My favourite race winning finish!

So I took out a NowTV subscription when their offer came up, thinking two GP a month would at least make it worthwhile.

Who's laughing now...!

Right, so.

The green light came on the formation lap. When they started the actual lap 1, the lights were flashing Amber which is an abort.

That actually clears things up a bit.

I have just about had enough here, this is absolutely tedious. It's almost as bad as a Monaco GP, but not quite...

Let them go out behind the safety car, have Verstappen and Hamilton spin out for the status quo, give Russell the win just for the hell of it.

So does Perez has to wait at least a lap before rejoining the race?
Watching this is worse is a painful waste of an afternoon.
He'd be classified as a lap down on the end, unless he unlapped himself, as he's not done one lap that the others have.

Well this'll be worth them going out, eh...

Reckon it's just so they don't have to refund the crowd?

That's got to be it now surely. It's still raining so if they need to clear the track and it takes them ten minutes to get ready to go, then they won't have time.

Bernd Maylander driver of the day? Led every lap, didn't make a mistake.
Don't forget the medical car bloke!

Guess at least I didn't pay to stand on a hill in the pissing rain to see a medical car and some very slow F1 cars fulfilling a contractual obligation...
