Just reading through the Bright Robins thread and seen his name.

Had forgotten about him tbh, and made me think, surely hes off in January? He is 7th in the pecking order

Hamer
Allen
Sheaf
Kelly
Eccles
Howley it seems all ahead of him now.

Quite a fall from grace tbf, he was still decent in the L1 promotion season, but he is noway ready for the championship, looks unfit and bottles 90% of challenges

Thoughts?

I'm not sure how you can say hes not ready for the championship but Howley and Eccles are? Hes a useful squad player to have as can play multiple positions and we wouldn't get a player like him who's happy to sit on the bench. I hope we keep him beyond Jan

How do you know hes happy sitting on the bench? He's not even making the squad at the moment.

Eccles shown in his few games last season, more than Shipley did in the disatrous appearances he made.

Howleys clearly the next thing to come from the academy

I think the bottling is higher than 90%

If someone had come in I think Shippers might have gone in the window
But I suspect we wanted a fee which might have scuppered any chance of a deal
Very few lower league clubs paid fees in this window for obvious reasons

He's useful cover in the squad but not sure you'd want him playing 90 minutes too often. Is this the last year of his contract? If so he'll probably have to look to move on in the January window.

Yes I'm defending, but before anyone moans it's the usual suspects already twisting the knife in Floyd and saddle. One says bottles over 90% of challenges, not the strongest for sure, but that's ridiculous and the other unfit despite not seen him since last year and disastrous performances - remember how Allen was written off? He's younger and was his first season at this level, including the odd decent game and a few moments in others, chipping in with a few goals. He might not make it, but some wrote him off in L2 then in L1 before he stepped up.

I like the look of Eccles too, but 7 games is all he played incl some from the bench and was ok but no motm performances and is now injured too, it's a stretch to think him or Howley who hasn't yet performed at this level are miles ahead. Personally I'd have loaned him out to get some game time right now, but when the window closed Kelly and Eccles weren't an option so that left us very thin in there. If he could have got some game time in L1 then come back in Jan I'd have preferred it, but difficult to see a way in for him currently without the overhyped disparaging comments.

OK I can see a scenario where Robins takes him away from the squad ...works on his fitness and then he comes back fitter than ever... however he looked like he needed oxygen after 20 mins most matches , looks a serious ask

I think we are at a level where he won't get his chance to prove himself at this level anyway. Probably our worst performer last season who played a reasonable number of games.

And bear in mind we've UPPED our fitness levels since then too
But don't you think he will have too? If the whole squad were working on it and they identified that as a problem, then Robins doesn't exactly take prisoners as you've seen every season. The reason he is still here is he does everything the management team ask of him. Whether he has the quality to step to the level is up for debate of course, but he certainly puts the miles in despite perceptions.

Pointless argument, Bright has hardly upped his fitness levels with the squad has he?

Hopefully he can , but with some people you just can't take them any further .

Could be wrong ofcourse but I think his time here is in its latter stages

I respect Shipley and what he's helped us achieve

You know this for sure do you? I understood he was miles behind after no real pre-season and then had a family issue. If it wasn't the case he won't stay or be part of the plans. Robins has bombed players out of the squad every single year and he will to Bright if he's not up to it, but it seems n here people know better than MR.

Well it's always a little depressing to be honest to see our own players written off. I'd prefer the focus to be on our brilliant start which is beyond the expectations of nearly anyone.

But the good news - the usual suspects have moved onto writing off players who aren't even making the bench vs. first team starters as has often been the case over the past 3-4 seasons.

So that shows some kind of progress even in the eyes of the most negative!

Wouldn't dispute that as without game time i can't see a spot for him right now, but saying that is completely different form some of the needless comments at the top of the thread.

And there's no point me saying I hope he proves me wrong ,I'm just a fan who watches , he has to prove Robins and himself wrong

Not sure I buy the can't be bothered or unfit idea. Robins hasn't exactly been slow to bomb players out and Shipley has played well over 100 games over the last 4 seasons and had his contract renewed / extended. Think its more a case that our progress as a club has occurred quicker than his progress as a player which has resulted in him gradually dropping down the list.

See no reason he can't do a job if he's happy to drop down from the Championship.

I agree with this. Been part of an enjoyable few years including last season when he contributed to keeping us up which will hopefully be a springboard for better things but I think for the sake of his career he needs to move on.

I thought league 2 was his level. Fair play he did s job in league 1 too.

But championship a step too far and prob best he leaves

I said on another thread that he was excellent in league two, ok in league one, and poor in the championship. We should definitely try and offload him on a permanent transfer in January if possible.

Shipley played most of his games last season with our five best players out injured once they came back he was in and out until about March time and with our best players back plus Matty James wasn’t in the regular first eleven, but neither was Jamie Allen, not saying Shippers will be a regular again but with a close season under our new first team coach who knows he might. There could be a decision for him for him to make January or at the end of the season depending where we are there might be decisions for a few others and Mark Robins, we are constantly evolving.

Even Jodi Jones is ahead of him in a similarity position.

I think there's probably still alot of improvement in him. One of his best assets is his lovely sweet left foot. Strikes the ball cleanly. And has scored some important goals.

It's the other areas of his game that are not up to scratch. He's possibly a better player now than when he was in league 1 with us. he can definately do a job in league 1 no doubt about that in my mind. But atm not doing him much good being here.

I'd say if anything he's probably gone backwards. In our League 1 season he would have got into any team in the League. Now, not so much.

Like Shippers, local lad, always gives his all. Loved how when he was out of the team in League 1 he was always supporting the players with the shirt. Got a sweet left shooting foot and has scored some good goals for us. I think he may have played the most games in the current squad for MR. His downside has been his stamina which I am not sure can be addressed. MR has never dissed him like other players who have been told to find another club. Will he make the first team as a regular or even as a sub? If he deserves to he will. Otherwise, I am sure he will go on to have a good career in the game elsewhere. Been a great servant to the club, deserves better than some of the comments on here.

It probably looks like that when the club it seems has gone up a notch or 2.

It's always a shame when a home grown player gets left behind in a journey.

100% agree. A little sad.

Was sat next his grandad in the P/o Semi final. He got swamped by us good memories.

He scored some damn good goals. Sunderland away and the celebration (my boy still copies that when he scores for his club) lol
