Haha it’s hard having an opinion that goes against the majority and then they’re proven to be completely wrong. I remember the abuse I received on here for going against the experts so early in Thorn’s regime and look how that turned out. 😉

Do you think? We'd have a decent chance of beating them at home right now, but Rangers are a great side and on last season's evidence would've survived in the PL. Gone through a dodgy patch but have some good players.

Aribo, Kent, Morelos, Tavernier, Barisic, Roofe (invariably a sub for them) - all at worst top end champ players, Kent probably be an asset to a decent PL side.

With regards to Rangers and only Rangers (Celtic are now utterly woeful) I'd agree that they do have some decent players atm. They look flat this season but disagree with some above saying midtable champ, I do think they'd knock around the play offs. Defo not better than Fulham though, who we just demolished so yes I think we would do them at home.
Unfortunately for them and for Scottish football I think the downward curve of the league is only going to continue. I've read Morelos, Hagi and Barasic at the very least are all keen to move on. There will soon be very few players of good quality in that league, even at the old firm.

So long as the Old Firm keep getting 40/50000 spectators each match plus shirts / sponsorship plus Euro Football and whatever TV money, they will always be able to pay high wages attract better talent than any L1 club. Celtic have got the Eire angle too so they often get decent support and often a pick of the players from the ROI.

They are big clubs and their finances / Euro potential means they can attract players and coaches at least as good as most Champ clubs.

Better talent than any league 1 club is now the bar for them then.

When was the last time Celtic beat a Premier League team in a competitive game?
Tbf that's irrelevant to what he's saying, the current Celtic squad is awful, he's saying what would be.
That said its a completely pointless and redundant discussion that people have, if Ajax were in the prem they'd be one of the biggest clubs in the world again, but that ain't gonna happen either.

There are posters on here that did the laughing emoji bit when I suggested previously that the SPL was between L1 and Champ level (old firm plus one or two could mix it / survive in champ (let’s say Aberdeen, possibly (just possibly) even Hearts or Hibs). Some posters are saying L1 at best.

Can’t think of many players in L1 who would turn down Celtic or Rangers.

I think you are greatly overestimating the quality. Look at some of the squads in that league. Outside the old firm (Rangers probs top 6 championship, Celtic I don't know but not very high championship) you are looking at lower league 1, top end league 2.

Years ago. 2006/7 they beat Man U in the CL. Looking back, that was a decent result against a brilliant team.

16/17 they drew with Man City home and away in the Champions League.

Not faced any since.

To say they are league 1 is a bit harsh.

It took Man City four years to win the title after being bought out by the richest owners in world football. And they were already an established, billionaire-owned Premier League team when CFG came in. Why would Celtic do it faster?

One of Dundee Uniteds regualar players is 29 and was loaned out from his previous club - Mansfield - to Billeracy Town - its a terrible league

SPFL clubs play in a competition with Conference, Welsh Premier and Northern Irish Premier clubs. That pitches the SPL as about League 1 and the Old Firm as top half Championship.

Always made me laugh when we were in League 1 and Scottish referees I trained with took the piss about us playing teams like Crewe and Northampton. We'd still comfortably have stayed up in their top flight even with some of our lesser squads from that era
