I wouldn’t say it’s meaningless if we’re talking about their potential if they joined the Premier League & had money put in- they’d be absolutely enormous, way bigger than Newcastle

Why ? They'd be no more a pull than west ham .. who incidentally get 60,000 a week , which is more than celtic

Celtic currently have empty seats at every home match , around 3000 of them

I don’t really care either way but I can tell you that you’re massively underestimating how big those boys could be.

Then again thinking about it… I dunno. I guess it’s easy to go overboard with them, but be under no illusions, if they got a bandwagon going & playing in the Prem they’d dwarf teams like West Ham.

I don't think I am , celtic fans travel well , win trophies most years , Newcastle get 50k plus every match , have won fuck all and travel amazingly well in numbers.

Unless they expand celtic Park they'd achieve no more than a west ham or a spurs

They'd also be up against a league where almost all the top owners are multi billionaires .. players will still choose London and wages over Glasgow, players will still go to much larger clubs like united and Liverpool over Glasgow.

Should Newcastle become the next man city , they already have a large fanbase to begin with and will become a global brand , pretty soon their fanbase globally will exceed both rangers and celtic

The Mackems had better get promoted this season; otherwise it will drive them to distraction.
Interestingly they (Mackems) are hoping that the current Newcastle squad and manager down tools, as the writing is on the wall for them, and they get relegated,. They are hoping any new January signings may not have time to gel and save them.

That will be 1 promotion place written off next season then! Also do Sunderland fans really want to be in the same division as their closest rivals whilst they romp away with the title?

They'd be big if a mega billionaire bought them, unfortunately that's how football works now. Otherwise they'd be average. In reality they are neither as they are playing in a dying league and i can't see why English football would ever need to invite them in.

I’ve said this on another thread, Celtic are a historically big club. They’re no longer major players in Europe or World football. Look at the likes of Ajax - massive historically, but they’re both lagging behind in current stature

Trophies-wise no argument at all there. But fans wise, there are millions of them, everywhere.

Personally I’d like to see it happen somehow just to see how Rangers & Celtic compared.

Who’s next in Scotland- Aberdeen? Hearts?

Ok I get you. I was purely talking about their support base, which is absolutely enormous.

Here's one

Apparantly West ham have a bigger global fanbase than both celtic and rangers combined

Top Dutch clubs aren't where they were for sure but it's no Scotland.

I do get that, I'm sure there are plenty around but I'm always unsure what that actually means. Does having a load of barely Irish yanks taking a mild interest in your results equate to millions in the bank? I have no idea.

I saw that, however those types of figures are not totally reliable as they include things like social media- number of Twitter followers etc

In all honestly I’d say there’s only Man Utd that would be bigger than Celtic support-wise if they joined the Prem & had money.

Then again things have changed, social media & what makes a ‘fan’- hard to know really.

We’d be subjected to the nauseating love-ins when they played Man Utd & Liverpool too

It’s how many would stump up the cash and show up to matches really, the rest is just speculation.

Let’s face it, the SPL is a joke, Celtic are in a slump by being second best in the country- you can see why loads would lose interest when your season is over by September

For me , it's a myth about the size of the Scottish clubs fanbases .

If the global fanbases were so big , the demand would be there and they get a poor TV deal even less than the championship

Partially agree with you- their crowds are abysmal in the main, but nobody could argue at the quality of their support, especially when playing an English club.

And in this day and age it’s all about potential, if ever Celtic and/or Rangers were invited to the Prem they’d immediately become massively attractive to investors, and they’d be enormous clubs.. plus we’d find out once and for all how they stack up.

Don’t get me wrong by the way, I am no fan of either of them especially with all the religion bullshit, but I don’t think anyone could deny they are massive clubs.

That would explain many things, my friend 😁

All conjecture but for me Celtic & Rangers could be absolutely enormous. They have no competition at the moment, and a lack of any meaningful games apart from against each other explains why the SPL is diabolical.

It must be so soul destroying being a fan of Hibs for example- what do you have to aim for?

Just to reiterate the absolute state of English football.. all I keep seeing now is this richest club league table, because bragging about that is a thing now. Also every social media post about Newcastle now has about 10 comments from random people across the world (mainly Arabs I suppose) to every 1 comment from an actual geordie. The cringiness is almost unbearable.

I've seen loads of comments in indecipherable, pigeon English, but that's just the locals.

I can marginally accept you missing out some premier league teams , but Liverpool are a world super club in terms of stature and fanbase , belong with the likes of barca ,real ,bayern and man utd .

Different planet to rangers and celtic

Celtic, Rangers and the SPL … is it me or is it taking over every thread ?

It’s like walking in on your Nan on the bog. It’s a subject for discussion but I really don’t wanna talk about it.

She was catholic btw

You may be right there, maybe I’m in the past a bit. Celtic played Liverpool in the 90s and Celtic totally took Anfield over, I think they played Blackburn as well and most of the ground was green & white. Since that time though Liverpool have grown, no doubt about it. Still- give Celtic (and Rangers) some momentum and have them playing in the Prem they’d certainly more than hold their own support-wise.

I sure that UEFA cup run was early 2000s. There was still some pretty good players at both Celtic and Rangers at that point.

You’re right actually. They beat both of them as well didn’t they? .. I clearly remember being fully paid up Liverpool & Blackburn fans for those matches 🙈😁

Yes they definitely won comfortably at both Anfield and Ewood (2-0 in both I want to say.) A certain John Hartson would have recently joined from us.

I’ll never forget the smell. The Glade plug-in didn’t stand a chance. I don’t think there’s enough Fabreze in the world…

Going back to Newcastle. Don’t care if they have the worlds richest man, winning trophies is tough I’d think the whole PL now have owners with deep pockets as do some championship clubs. Looks to me the Newcastle fans think this is the springboard to glory, it might be but knowing the Geordies if that doesn’t happen & quick they’ll be up in arms as usual.
They hate Mike Ashley and might have reasons but without him and his dosh they wouldn’t be in the Prem.

Man city seemingly have it down to a tee .

Media swooning over this is another thing wrong with the game

I hope this goes tits up if I’m honest as it disproportionately affects the whole of football leading to the derby and the sheff wed and the bury. Next time motd or the pundits are crying about this bury or another club they need to remember the nonsense of the Saudi Arabian takeover of Newcastle and add it to the list of Man City and Utd and Liverpool and the first of them chelski
