If Gyokeres isn’t on it we don’t turn up, becoming a bit of a one man team. Robins knows it as well seeing as he’s played him last two games while half fit.

We have hit a bit of a bad spell relative to how we were playing, that's all. We have taken 5 points from 5 games, including inflicting Fulham's only defeat in that period, and playing our ultimate bogey team away. We will come back from it.
Look at Stoke, they were tipped by many experts for promotion yet they have lost 3 in a row and have only taken 4 points from their last 5 games. They are currently in a worse position than us, yet they are still 4th favourite for promotion according to Oddschecker and around evens to finish top 6.

That was literally our only chance from open play in 90 mins, before maatsen blazing over in the 93rd.

Pen
Godden header wide from the corner
Godden header chalked off from Hamers freekick.
Our best chances all from set pieces.

We wasted so much good possession in the final third in the first half.

I agree with every word of that, we didn’t create enough, Dabo was hitting the first man, not enough shots on goal, Sheaf hospital passes, Hamer looking for the Hollywood pass, Victor not on his A game, OHare bitching about his team mates all through the second half, the defence nervy and substitutions failing to improve the team.
Still it’s an excellent point against a good team. Ravel ran the midfield, the old boys at the back had relatively relaxed afternoon, Kazim Richards showed how to lead the line when he came on and Sibley was their game changer.

We can and will push for the last couple of playoff spots , it's not just us who have been inconsistent recently either , that's why we are still 4th .

We will have spells in and out of the top 6 in the coming weeks I'm sure

We usually get stronger as the season grows under Robins and I see no reason why this season will be any different

Despite the disappointment of the last two games there hasn't been anything that says to me we're suddenly going to drop off entirely. We have to sort out the away form if we want to even consider staying where we are but MR does, either by luck or judgement, tend to come across something that works.

I've traditionally seen us as a 'fair weather' team - play well at the start and end of the season and be crap in the cold, wet winter but as you say we do seem to get incrementally better under MR so hopefully we will still be in and around it by May.

Did we not have a long unbeaten run last Oct/Nov?

I would be working on crossing the ball this week , can’t remember how many times it hit the first man yesterday , great counter attacking let down by the final ball . I have to keep checking it’s not Marcus Hall slinging them In

We drew away at a decent Blackburn side at their place. had one poor second half at PNE. then played pretty well yesterday against a side with 24 hours extra rest, and who had lost 3 out of 13 games. Hardly a 'fall, so hard, so quick'?

Agreed, but it still rankles with me that we have let advantages slip in 2 consecutive games. This is where managers earn their money so we need to get back on the winning trail.

Everyone of us are expecting these results to continue ,well there not going to, but 4th after 14 games so I'm enjoying us being top end.

In my humble opinion we are not at that level and to sustain it will be tough. Our opponents have deeper resources in the playing pool and financially can blow us out of the water in January.
Possibly our season has peaked but hopefully we can go again. Sheffield United, Boro and others are pushing on now.
But you know this and the knives are being sharpened.

If our season has peaked barely a third of the way in we’re in big trouble. What’s Luton’s resources like?

That's right I know under robins the team only improves as the season goes on ,well it has over the last 4 years so it's a great time to be a city supporter and we don't quite know how it's going to pan out.bring it on.

It’s not just yesterday it’s been a problem for years. Does make you wonder if they actually work on crossing at all.

They would and probably good at it but it’s harder to perform in a game situation. Someone like O’Hare Robins says can finish in training but in games he can’t find it

That has to be a mind thing, but if he suddenly starts he will be a 10 million player and will be sold by sisu.

It would have made by far more sense to bring him on last 30 minutes against two old centre backs imho.

It isn't just Gyokeres though, I think we miss Waghorn who makes good angles

Dabo gets some really difficult crosses right but seems worse the longer he has to make the decision. I still think he needs to be driving to the byline more rather than crossing early.

I got in much earlier yesterday to avoid the queues and they were doing shooting practice in front of us.

We were laughing cos they were all burying them apart from O'Hare who didn't score 1.

Marcus Hall actually had a pretty decent 'assists' record. Dabo is fantastic at interchanging passes with our midfielders and beating his man to get in position to cross, but he does seem to lack that killer final ball. I tend to agree with FP that at times he would be better taking the ball on rather than hitting an early cross.

It’s really interesting the gaps in our young players skills. Be interesting to see if
Dabo can add assists to the rest of his wonderful game
Ohare goals to the rest of his wonderful game
Hyam positioning and passing to the rest of his game
Sheaf awareness to the rest of his passing game
Etc etc

Looks like Tavares has improved enormously but not the first team as yet.

Hope we can continue to perform and stay up at the higher end of the table

Think you’re cutting it fine to class Hyam and Dabo as young players Pete. 25 and 26!

Not concerned too much by this little wobble we will get back on track. If we had var we could have won the last three games, whole different story then.

We are 4th, hardly cause for concern old chap and as I stated hopefully we can go again.
Agreed.
If you discount the top 3 teams, who are all relegated Prem teams with resources vastly greater than ours and all top bets for promotion, we are the top team of the pack chasing them....based on last season, frankly, that is amazing.

I really thought on Saturday he took too many touches particularly in the first half when he should have crossed first time. Probably coaching as thats what they do in the Prem. Make sure the cross is controlled rather than random, but sometimes a quick cross unsettles the opposition.

I agree with most commentators on here. We have done wonderfully well to date and we have been very easy on the eye and praised by all pundits for the style of football we have played. My concern was not the match at Luton which can happen to any team. It was the reaction to the Preston result which worried me. In my own mind I felt that the outcome of that match would dictate whether we were serious promotion potential or mid table to 10th place.
It is no earthly use people saying ...well we always lose at Preston; onwards and upwards. Wrong! Last season Preston played Wycombe 3 times ( once in the FA cup) and Rotherham twice when they were arguably a better side than they are now. Preston's record was Played 5 Won 0 Drawn 1 Lost 4. Goal for 4 Goals against 10. This season they have played Blackpool and Hull City( 2 of the promoted sides and their record is Played 2 Won 0 Drawn 0 Lost 2. Goals for 1 Goals against 6. Their record against us since our return to the Championship is Played 3 Won 3 Goals for 5 Goals against 1.
Preston are a bang average side at best. Deepdale is not Anfield or Stamford Bridge
The reaction to Preston's visit to the Coventry Building Society Stadium should be come hell or high water they are leaving with no points and next season if we have any aspiration for promotion we WILL make it our business to win at Deepdale as a priority.
If Hull City can put 4 past them at Deepdale I am sure we are capable of winning there.
