Agreed, and where I work it is quite normal to talk openly about relationships. Contrary to the view of one or two on here I can't stand bullying and accept people for who they are. The chappies on a couple of other posts here may be scratching their heads a bit but that's their problem. Worked in several organisations that actively accept people for who they are and recruit accordingly.

The workplace has values that people abide by. Anti-bullying, protected characteristics and codes of conduct that help to structure the organisation is a way that enables people to feel welcome regardless of their gender, race, sexuality, disability, ability, health and well-being. Which often means that people are held to account if they show any disrespect to people. The 'neutrality' of the workplace is its strength.

Why would you need to indicate sexuality? I don't walk into a new job and proclaim my heterosexuality to the office.
He didn't mention anything about discussing sexuality. He said he sees no reason why anyone, feels the need to shout about it.

Does coming out really bother people that much? It is sad that you feel that way about an individual being able to live free from prejudice etc. One of my sisters came out at the age of 55. The most frustrating thing about it was that she took until 55 to do it. (A legacy of church, societal norms etc).

Where in my post or FF's post have we said we don't like seeing either of those things. All that's been said is there's no place for that in the workplace, no matter the sexuality. Keep chucking around the homophobe shite though.

Maybe not, however it's most definitely a wider societal problem anyway. There's such a massive thing about 'coming out' and it shouldn't be that way. And hopefully we'll get to a point in society where there's no need to come out. You just are what you are.

Its about being able to live your life without it being subject to media scrutiny and abuse and thats exactly what would happen if it became known that a professional footballer was gay.
And they don't need to announce it to the world, they would just need to live a normal life in a relationship with another man.

Agreed, why would anyone feel they need to? Back to football though, I remember Justin Fashanu. It was sad that he couldn't feel welcome in his macho football teams. All wrong then and all wrong now. Maybe football is the last bastion of homophobia? Oh and like you, I understand what equality and diversity in any workplace means.

Better explaining myself, you don't have to declare your heterosexuality because that has never been a societal problem. There has never been the risk of stigma from family, friends or colleagues in doing that which is still there for gay people. I agree completely we should be aiming for a society where nobody cares, but we're not close to that yet and if formally coming out is what helps us get there then I don't see what the problem is.

Football, whether we like it or not, influences a hell of a lot of people in the world and it has a long long way to go to make gay people feel comfortable being themselves supporting their team or doing their dream job.
look at the furore every time the rainbow lace weekend comes round or how Jamie Vardy is lauded by homophobic social media for destroying the rainbow flag at Sheff Utd. Now imagine you have this barrage against people like you when you’re on social media and then you go to the CBS and hear someone calling the players faggots.
I wouldn’t go back if I was them.

I heard the fella on 5 live this morning and could hear the joy and relief in his voice. I think if you've been in a football changing room at any level you can appreciate that it is not the most gay friendly place in the world and that is his job. Of course you are right in what you say in 'you are what you are' but there clearly are some walls that still need breaking down. Football isn't the only one either.

Agree nobody cares what happens behind closed doors, it is more about being able to be yourself in public
And if you think that then doesnt impact performance on the pitch - if your mind is not in the right place, then your performance will suffer

I don’t really post on social media myself but I do see what you mean.
I guess what I’m saying is, if say Callum O’hare put a photo up with his boyfriend I wouldn’t see it as a big deal. At my age it’s normal to be gay or bisexual to the point where people I know have never came out to me they just sleep with whoever. ‘Coming out’ seems to be a bigger deal when it’s to parents or people of a different generation.
I agree with you that footballers should be able to be comfortable with it I’m just saying I wouldn’t care and not many my age would.
