Well we had to field a load of youth payers last season and know one cared about that so why should we all care that Portsmouth have to for this season.

Hey, who moved this?! It's totally related to CCFC, and if you look above there are posts about how they didn't resort to youth players like we had to: it's about a club not playing by the rules and spending regardless of their ability to do so, whilst we cut our belts. A side that looked like they'd get away without being relegated last season through these actions.
This season they are more our direct rivals than ever as a so-called "big club" in L1, and they are up to their dodgy financial shenanigans again: we can be confident that if the takeover goes through, they'll have a bigger budget than we do.
Plus by moving the thread, nobody will read it now and we'll never get to 100 pages!

Crisis-hit Portsmouth had to field a near-youth team as they lost in the League Cup first round to Plymouth.
Pompey, who had to release all senior players to avoid liquidation, fielded nine teenagers in their starting XI.
First-team coach Ashley Westwood, 35, then went off injured to leave their entire outfield side aged 18 or under.
Plymouth's Johnny Gorman scored from a tight angle, Paris Cowan-Hall headed a second goal from close range and Nick Chadwick pounced for a third late on.
Seven of Portsmouth's team had not played a senior match before and Pompey manager Michael Appleton could only name three substitutes, including 15-year-old Jack Whatmaugh.
Visiting goalkeeper Simon Eastwood, 23, who signed on a non-contract basis hours before the match, was called into early action, fumbling a Gorman free-kick over the crossbar.
Eastwood was more convincing when he produced a fine save to deny Matt Lecointe's acrobatic effort, before Portsmouth's Alex Grant had to clear a Curtis Nelson shot off the line.
But the Pilgrims took a deserved lead just before half-time when Gorman, on-loan from Wolves, blasted home a well-struck left-footed shot.
Pompey's youthful side battled hard but conceded two goals in the last four minutes.
Substitute Cowan-Hall, who began his career at Portsmouth, headed in following good work from Maxime Blanchard and Chadwick sealed the victory with a finish from inside the penalty area.
Portsmouth, who won the FA Cup in 2008 and played Italian giants AC Milan in the Europa League later that year, created little, apart from two Ashley Harris efforts, which both went wide.

I'd feel sorry for the fans, no one wants a club to go bust. Similarly I wouldn't want them having to do an Aldershot and start way down the pyramid. Hope they can sort something out and stay in our league.

The fans' buyout proposal is still on the table, but I'm not sure how seriously the administrator views it.

Would be a real shame. Although even if they do stick around, they are going to get battered every week and it won't be much fun for their fans either way.
They lost 3-0 to Plymouth last night, the team was pretty much all U18s, except their first team coach who came out of retirement to play and went off injured after half an hour

Portsmouth are on the brink of liquidation again after prospective owner Balram Chainrai announced he had withdrawn his offer to buy the club.
Administrator Trevor Birch had cleared the club's wage bill by 10 August, in accordance with Chainrai's stipulation.
But the club's former owner has pulled out of the purchase, leaving the Pompey Supporters' Trust as the only hope.
"We note Portpin's statement that it has withdrawn its bid for Portsmouth Football Club," said Birch.
Birch added in the statement: "In reviewing the options available to the club, we also note Portpin's offer to support any efforts to save Portsmouth in the forthcoming days.

technically they go back to the PL and get distributed between the member clubs I think. In practice I can see the PFA moving in and arrangements made to use that money to pay outstanding player wages.
laughably Appleton and the local news reporter are both saying they are expecting the league to remove the embargo tomorrow and for new signings to be in place for Saturdays match!

Is it me or does anyone else think that Mr Chanrai protests too much. He seems to have thrown everything into the statement to justify his position. But the timing of it makes me wonder.
I believe that tomorrow Pompey have to prove to the FL they can complete the season
there is no time for anyone to step in before the season starts and therefore little chance of having more than just the academy players playing.
The football creditors debts were largely settled - even if new ones have turned up (whats been going on if new ones just suddenly appear ?? !!! the job of the administrator is to gather up all the debts and assets and these debts only just become apparent?)
There is no large on going wages debt so tax etc not increasing
and all the time Chanrai is sitting there with a charge over Fratton Park securing his debt ...... prime development land i suspect.
Could be wrong and doing the guy a dis service but ............

I think it's in his best interest for the club to get liquidated with his charge over the ground. The council have said the land can't be used for anything other than a football ground but if the club ceases to exist that surely can't be enforced. Apparently Chanrai and one of the previous owners (who owns the land surrounding Fratton Park) get on well so they could well have a plan to make use of the land in a way that will see Chanrai get a better return.
Can't see the trust taking over. They only have £2m in pledges plus the promise of a loan from the council. Birch has already agreed pay offs of £8m to the players who have left, trust say they want to drop that to £2m. The idea is the loan is a bridging loan until they get the pledges in but I don't think as many pledges will come through as they expect as a lot of people are being put off as they haven't published a business plan or full budget. The council want assurance from the PL that the parachute payments will cover any unpaid loan but I can't see that happening especially when Kanu and one of the former directors have outstanding claims as football creditors. Just doesn't seem to add up to me but OSB would be in a better position than me as I'm sure all the time spent looking at CCFC would give some indication of how much would be needed.
The other problem is Chanrai's charge over the ground. The story down here is that he can be taken to court and forced to sell it at market value to the trust but who's to say the market value will be the same as the trust think it will be and who will be covering the legal fees.
The deadline for the club was supposed to be last Friday according to the administrator, can't see the trust bid going through quickly so how much longer do they realistically have.
And that's before the matter of the FL meeting tomorrow where they would, in my opinion, have every right to say enough is enough and refuse their golden share.
What a pity .Shame they can't show a bit of Altruism and distribute it throughout the leagues for the benefit of all clubs who are quite obviously struggling.

This was the 2nd story on BBC South Today just now. Chanrai's Portpin Company have withdrawn their bid, the Portsmouth Supporters Trust has secured funds of £4½ million and are waiting for the administrator to come forward and accept their bid. But the local report also said there is SERIOUS doubt if Portsmouth Football Club will even exist by the time the season kicks off on Saturday.

it's difficult to know what's going on with the supporters trust, a lot of people are asking them to show their business plan and budget yet they continually refuse, you have to pay £100 upfront on the promise that at some point they will show you their plans. hardly inspires confidence and encourages people to hand their money over. the figures they do announce seem to change on an hourly basis, just today they've quoted a budget of 2m, 3.5m and 4.5m! Even with 4.5m I don't see how it will come off, they owe 8m to former players, will need to come to agreement with Chanrai to buy the ground and thats before you even consider running costs for this season.

thats why i would think the league would want to sort it tomorrow at their meeting. much easy to throw them out now when they haven't played a league match yet than the mess they could end up in later in the season.
doing some digging on the money front it seems they have £1m from 'major backers', £2m promised in pledges which may or may not come through and a £1.45m loan from the council if certain conditions can be met. doesn't look like they'll get parachute payments as Chanrai is saying that's all been accounted for. surely the first thing the administrator will want from them is proof of funds and I don't see how they can provide that. even if you say all that comes through and they've got £4.45m it wouldn't be long till that runs out and they are back in the same position.
