Fisher: "Everyone connected with the club knows that our budgets have been slashed because of relegation. However, this is as much about creating a culture that motivates success not mediocrity.

The club paid out the thick end of £1 million in bonuses last season – in a year when we were relegated. We feel this is not acceptable and had to change.

The players have responded in engaging in mature sit down discussions. The overall bonus pool this season is projected to be higher than the bonus monies that were paid-out last year but with one significant difference – it requires success to trigger the bonuses which we think is only right and proper and I am sure the vast majority of supporters would agree with that. I think we all agree that as a club we need to operate within our means whoever the owners are - and reigning in the bonus system and wages of players is a necessary step to achieving this but the aggressive and confrontational way SISU have gone about the matter on the eve of the new season smacks of poor timing and a disregard for team morale or on pitch performance.

I can see where you're coming from, Jan. However, by the looks of it, SISU didn't spring this on the players this morning, it's been going on for a few weeks. Personally, I can't see how the players can complain too much.

As Torchomatic said, this seems to have been going on for a while - and management/labour negotiations usually go to the wire. And was there a non-aggressive and confrontational way to do this? The nature of the new agreement means the players don't have it as easy as they once did - there's no way it could be done without a little blood spilled.

I don't know exactly but I would guess the bonuses would work on a slider basis with a better league position paying out a better bonus

He is saying the total possible bonus payout is higher than last year, I think this would be the most successful scenario which would be promotion. So if we aren't successful and finish midtable the bonuses paid out would be significantly lower to last season.

That is my interpretation of it anyway

I can see their point if they decided to kick up a stink, it's a lot of money. But from the sounds of it they've taken the decision well and in the best interest of the club which I admire them for.

We don't know how aggressive they were! All we have is an angry tweet from a kid after a loss and the tales of a non-assuming Sky engineer. The fact that the negotiations started at around the same time as pre-season and only finished last night would suggest to me that Fisher actually took into account what the players thought about the restructure.

I can potentially also see why perhaps some players are upset, as they could have signed contracts which are not particularly rewarding with regards to a basic wage (in footballing terms) but its made up with an appearance bonus.

The bouns should have been sorted from the day they signed with clause's in weather it be for promotion or as we have done gone down.Then you would'nt be upsetting the players you want to take us back up.My personal view is they would only get a bounses on winning not for apps thats what they get a wage for.

So it was done After last season and before this season starts. so when was it best done? They have released and sold and re-negotiated with those remaining. It has taken 3 weeks so far, how are we to know it wasn't first done 3/4 weeks prior to that. It has dragged on but pre-season is the perfect time surely!

As long as I don't have to hear Fisher spouting on about the players 'doing it for the good of the club' - can't abide that sort of bullshit - tell it like it really is - it's for the good of SISU - they don't want to fund it - they could but they don't want to - there's a massive difference between the two - the clubs survival is not in the hands of the players nor ACL and I for one wish they would stop all this high ground moralising about all the sacrifices everyone has to make due to the relegation

The thing is, if I do crap at work I don't get a bonus and I can't see many others getting a bonus for doing crap. In the real world companies are not doing well so are having to cut costs so it's only natural that football has to do the same.

The consultation period needs to be minimum 90 days, so that would take us from relegation to now.

I would say all the new players are already on the new system, so it is best all players are getting the same bonus to stop anything going wrong in the dressing room over it.

I dont have a problem with the players being told to take a cut, I think its only fair that they take their share of the blame.

However I do have to question who gave the players these stupid contracts in the first place, and why was it not sorted sooner?
