you saw his performances vs leeds and middlesborough? if he can do that to good championship teams he can be even better in league one

its all relative, you need to use your brain a bit.

10 man middlesborough who continued to play open football instead of shutting up shop and a very very poor leeds performance which ultimately cost Redfearn the managers job.

But he didn't really do it against the poorer Championship teams overall.

I really don't get this. He created loads of chances and loads of space. He was a touch of class. He is a great young player IMHO.

I can't believe people wouldn't have him back. He would vastly improve our play.

I agree with this

As a striker people will judge him solely on his goal records when he had a lot more to his game

I don't think he was crap, I just don't think he was as good or effective as other posters do.

He has great potential and is skilful but still has so much to learn and some of that is just basic strikers movement. He rarely used his pace to stretch defences as always dropped into the hole, this made him predictable and if the opposition played a DCM he was faced with 4-5 defenders between him and the goal and would get crowded out. The other thing he rarely did was made any runs in to the box, he'd link up play lay it out wide and stand admiring his work instead of getting himself in the box - that's basic strikers play.

If he learns that he could become a top top star, if he doesn't he will disappear into obscurity.

Couldn't agree more. He was far too predictable, could really learn from watching Kevin Phillips. If his movement was a little more intelligent then he'd be quick enough and skilful enough to score goals.

He wasnt offering enough for me to warrant him coming back. He had pace but often ran into players instead of round of them, poor goalscoring record and generally offered little.

Sorry, thinking back maybe "Shocking" was a little harsh. The chase has summed how I felt perfectly:

He wasnt offering enough for me to warrant him coming back. He had pace but often ran into players instead of round of them, poor goalscoring record and generally offered little.

I just felt too many people were getting a little too carried away. Sure he ran about but there was no end product from him.

He may not have scored a lot of goals but he did well in terms of making chances and running at people which is what we lack

He ran INTO players not AT them. His end product, and goals ratio, were both poor. Had he played on anything resembling a successful side he would have stood out as poor.

Why do people write youngsters off?

It's people like you (and possibly ACTUALLY you) that wrote off Ben Turner.

I thought he was decent. Afraid of shooting but as someone else said he created chances and was excellent on the ball. If he was put behind the strikers, maybe he'd be more confident.

Already said his goal ratio wasnt great but he made chances. Also if he runs INTO a player he gets a free kick and we have a chance of scoring, so whats the problem?
