I reckon the father will top himself in jail within the next year given the opportunity
Both found guilty of child cruelty; she got done for murder and he got manslaughter.
They should both serve actual life, preferably in isolation.

Nah thats the easy way out for themNah, let them share cells with the most evil people in the prisons who will "look after them"

Just watched this on the news - desperately sad, and makes your blood boil at the same time. How on earth did this get missed?
have not been able to finish one report I've started reading on it, it's absolutely brutal, that poor little fella.
I've just read the BBC news article on the case and shed a tear. The picture of the poor boy the day before his death unable to pick up his blanket
I'm genuinely upset by this....what utter fucking cunts. Sorry to use such language but that poor little fella...
I hope those two wankers get whats coming to them inside. Absolute evil scum.
At least the lad isn't suffering anymore.
Some people don't deserve the oxygen they breathe, fucking pricks.
its horrific mate. We live in an age where you can become a bit desensitised to things but this story really seems to have affected a lot of people.
I don't know if its affected me more because I have a little boy. Either way, its fucking hit me. That image...he looks so sad...and to say no one loves him
Poor little man...im fucking welling up again...
I've never really given a second thought to the death penalty but would gladly vote for it for these two fuckwits. Genuinely saddened.
Hopefully my wife goes into labour tonight (4 days overdue ) and we can celebrate a new beautiful life

Same here, I feel genuinely upset and disturbed by it, there’s no way I can bring myself to watch the video.I can’t get it out of my head, those videos and the way he was saying “nobody loves me”, it’s kind of haunting me that anyone would do this. Kids are the greatest thing that can happen to anyone- just cannot compute the kind of sickness & evil we’re talking about here.
I fundamentally disagree with the death penalty, but this whole thing is a test in terms of maintaining that view.
Saw the vid of this woman when the police showed up- she’s just killed a 6 year old, she’s basically tortured him previously, and yet she stands there blaming him (a weak 6 year old) for knocking her about. And his dad just stands there emotionless, next to the woman that’s murdered his son.
Hard to really find words to describe these people, ‘evil’ doesn’t begin to cover it
Keep hold of your disagreement COV.I fundamentally disagree with the death penalty, but this whole thing is a test in terms of maintaining that view.

This is a horrible, horrible case, but killing people is wrong. Full stop.
I'm with some of the above posters, and refuse to read the details of this case, but killing people is wrong.
I haven't got a solution, but I'm adamant that it doesn't lie in the death penalty.
Let's punish murder with murder? We are better than that.

If it’s not today or tomorrow, tell her to wait until Saturday evening at least
Good luck.
And another thing...how can anyone in the legal profession defend such lowlife? I know everyone is entitled to representation but who would want to defend them with the evidence presented??
Best way to have faith in the justice system. Give them a full defence, you *know* guilty is the right verdict. I know this case looks pretty open and shut, but want no comeback, do you? Imagine if they got off because process hadn't been applied? It’s one of the big moral quandaries with criminal law. Like you say, entitled to a defence but I doubt anyone would really want to do it.
It's important to remember that it's s defence of process not directly of the personBest way to have faith in the justice system. Give them a full defence, you *know* guilty is the right verdict. I feel very similar whenever i see cases like this. I think my main issue with the death penalty is that you inevitably get miscarriages of justice at some point and it's impossible to undo an execution. Given how i find myself thinking 'just kill the bastards' i don't think i can honestly claim its just a moral objection to the taking of a life for justice. There's also a part of me that wonders what has happened to the perpetrators to make them do this kind of stuff. Horrendous case, utterly depressing. So, my wife and I were walking back from dropping the boy at nursery this morning and I talked to her about this and mentioned how this had really affected me and that I had mentioned it on this forum. I then asked her what her thoughts were on the death penalty on the back of your post.
We both agreed with you - to an extent. Killing people is wrong, but for things like this were two grown adults, physically tortured a defenceless little boy and mentally abused him so much over a period of time, that he thought no one loved him, this is where I personally would draw the line. Anyone who does that to a defenceless child, doesn't deserve to live (in my opinion).
My wife said that there's obviously something mentally wrong with those sick fuckers to do that which could then counter the fact that if capital punishment was a thing, they might be excused on the basis of mental instability (or the like).
It is a tough one - like I said on an early post, I've never really given it a second thought - even when I see stories about it being carried out in the US. I guess this situation is so emotive and as a parent, I find it totally inexcusable to torture and abuse a defenceless child that in this extreme circumstance, I'd have no issues with these two evil pricks being put to sleep.

At least those views can/are being challenged more these days and can also be changed in some people. Some pretty outdated views on that thread but the amount of reasoned responses to the questions posed do fill me confidence that we're heading in the right direction there. Then you have a guy on the other forum saying that without the ‘traditional nuclear family’ society would fall apart- depressing all fucking round

It's the setting of the threshold that is key to that i suppose, just feels inevitable a mistake gets made at some point. As i say, i used to think my objection was mainly moral (i.e wrong to punish killing by killing) but i'm starting to think it's more about this aspect given my natural reaction of 'just kill them'.To be fair, we did talk about miscarriages of justice. For something like this where it's black and white as there's video evidence of the poor boys malnutrition, it's quite clear.
There would be a lot of grey areas though, I do concede.

I can’t quite articulate why I’m against the death penalty, it’s just a powerful ‘gut feel’ that it’s wrong.
These two are now gonna live the most hideous existence (she’s already been attacked apparently), a little boy is dead, his mum was already locked up for life- the whole thing is just massively depressing.
And sorry but what the living fuck were social services playing at? They need to be seriously looked at.
If it was a dog you’d put in down - there are worse than dogs
