Mixed bag. GCSEs and A levels. Skipped uni as I believe it's a big scam for most people (obvious exceptions.) You can get a degree in anything now.
Project management apprenticeship, poached into HR, enjoyed that for a few years but not truly satisfied. Joined the RAF and here I am. Paid to watch the Russians pretend they would start a war with a near-peer nation 👍 but they are paying for degrees for me which just leaves doors open for when I eventually leave so who's complaining.

Not flippant at all. And yes, it was a fabulous 'buzz' every time I went into the studio, whether it was for a show, to interview a guest or editing a 30 minute package down to 5 minutes and yet keep it interesting! And the studio manager wanted it 'on air ' in an hour! That was the buzz I loved!

You’ve had quite a life it seems-perhaps you should write a book 😉

Also my speciality is obviously taking down rival gangsters picking up beautiful women and generally being a full time legend

Computer Science at undergrad Computational Intelligence at post grad, work is in very closely related field to my Masters but not exactly what I did at Uni.

Also have HND in Telecommunications Engineering which I don’t use at all and obviously a PGCE which I used when teaching.

Half arsed attempts at A-level business in college after school. Dropped out in a haze of weed (draw as it was then) and got an apprenticeship in a (construction) sales office. Did a marketing diploma in the evening alongside that and then got made redundant when the arse fell out the housing market.

Took a job in insurance to pay the bills for a few months whilst looking for a marketing job. 15 years later I’m still in it and ended up a complex liability insurance specialist.

Done an advanced insurance diploma and loss adjusting diploma funded by work but on my own time. About a year away from becoming chartered.

Would love to get back into marketing, specifically advertising, but whey too many responsibilities take the pay cut and start again.

Left school at 16 with 2 GCSEs and within 4 years had got 4 As at A-Level and then did English Literature at university.
Started my own digital marketing business at the start of 2020.

Did a degree in Biochemistry then kind of fell into doing a PhD in a similar field. Then had a fairly successful career in genetics research. Still use my scientific knowledge in providing health & safety advice to the science community at Warwick Uni.
So yes, my degree became my specialism, but degrees can be a useful gateway to a whole heap of avenues. Mrs OSB did her degree in Textile Design, and was the last person to use the lace machines at Trent Poly for her "major". Alas, lace design became computerised just afterwards and no-one needed people who could do the sort of design she had became expert in, and was out of a job.
After years in the licenced trade she went into operational management of conference centres which required her to have "a degree". Didn't matter what in. She is now very successful in the charity sector. So every degree is useful eventually, somewhere. BUT Uni life is not for everyone, as many on here have said.

Ha ha, reeks of something dodgy. I'm not sure exactly what though. However someone is getting a number of poster's work and educational history with their second ever post on the forum.

I did wonder who the club hired for that role that involved browsing fan forums

Left school at 16, apprenticeship for 4 years and then studied accountancy part time whilst working, you don’t need a degree to be qualified. Eventually qualified.
Its a big annoyance of mine that so many roles now want degrees but didn’t before, I think the nursing one virtually has them on a ward working from day 1 with no pay and just debts for the privilege, cannot be right.

I'd agree. It was so much easier to work your way up in any organisation without formal qualifications, you could get there on merit. Now you need a degree just to get on the starting line for most meaningful jobs.

More than likely trying to line up to post some educational related spam.

There is a rumour going around that CWR was originally going to be called Warwickshire Radio until someone pointed out that Coventry is not in Warwickshire.

I have the rumour from someone who was once a very good authority on the subject :D

But the name of the station is "BBC Coventry AND Warwickshire Radio"! Which indicates its separate entity from the county.

I think that's kind of his point :)

i.e. if they had just called it 'Warwickshire Radio' then people in Coventry would probably not have tuned in.

We were based in Warwick Row at the time, and all our 'do's and parties' were usually in a bar opposite. I can't remember the name of it. I don't think it exists any more. Anyway. Couple more pics. First is of me and a couple of co-workers outside the Warwick Row studios (me in the middle) and the other is inside that bar I mentioned (I think it was some sort of leaving do for one of the journos). Me on the right in the leather coat.
