cody could have had 4

should have had a pen

cobwebs been blown away, lets move on

their goal was disappointing

with the chances created, we should have won the game

missed flecks guile once he went off

barton was excellent, showed what he was about, he has quality

cody could be off and running with 4 goals

elliott looked sharp

we dealt with most stuff that came

first off everyone was nervous

apart from goal was happy with how we dealt with things

we could have won the game

He seemed to me to be talking completely at odds to all the City fans who went and have commented on here and on the radio, who all appear to be saying we should have lost.

"Barton has only had two 45's before that but showed his quality". Once fit, him, Fleck and Jennings are clearly going to be vital men.

Clueless. No game plan. No idea.
I can't fault any of the players though really.
I assume they did what they were told: Launch it, play the second ball.

I saw nothing else.

We're a gelling team who drew away against a team who will finish mid table in OUR division. Not all bad. Let's give them some time to perform!

No, but you say 'hard-earned point' and 'we battled to the end' and 'we're pleased with the draw.'

If you are abysmal and should have clearly lost the game you don't come out and say you should have won the game.

I find with AT's post match interviews its almost as though he's at a different game to everyone else.

He's stressed the positives and said we could have won-Id have said that, too. What he says in the changing room will be completely different. Hopefully.

I wouldn't say we should have lost personally. We did have the better chances. But they weren't nicely created. It was forcing errors and picking up the pieces. The defending was also last ditch at times.

We were overrun out wide 2 to 1 when they had the ball, and 2 to 1 against when we had the ball. We were far too narrow and the midfielders didn't put themselves about at all except Barton after Fleck went off.

Barton looks pretty good for me, bit shy to get stuck in, but good on the ball.

Clarke was a highlight for me, (defensively) along with Cody.

FFS, I've just hammered him for persisting with the diamond when Daniels is the only DMC option!

It's you either Hate him or Love him on here... Make you're mind up!!!!

Neither! I'm not a bloody political party with a manifesto. Just capable of employing logic and perspective. Really, would you come out and say "that was shite, we deserved to lose"? As a manager, in public, after the first game of the season, when we didn't lose away, I would stress the positives.

Also-would you always say the same to the players as you do to the media?

Not aimed at you Bagsy, just trying to say-why does everyone have to be in a pro or anti-Thorn camp? Dongo is hammered for being pro-Thorn, but he said he'd get rid of AT if we were slipping out of promotion contention. So would I, and so would most so-called "pro-Thorn" people.

I agree, today was shit but at least we got 1 point, better than nothing. However this is no reason to get rid of the manager after 1 game, at least give them time to have a few proper games together before we linch him!

In terms of play, they had the majority. But they only had their goal and their disallowed goal. We had our goal, cleared off line, hit bar, 2 blazed over from close range and one across face of goal that only needed a touch. So we were the team who had chances, but that doesn't mean we played better.

Okay, fine.

I am a lot, lot happier if we were abysmal but had nearly all the clear cut chances to win.

Me too! Implies we'll get better. Last season we had lots of play but created nothing. I'd rather be creating chances than not..

Another game that season we would have lost! Good away point. Don't lose away and win at home and we will be there or there abouts. PUSB

cody could have had 4

should have had a pen = agreed Cody was taken down for stonewall penalty

cobwebs been blown away, lets move on = let's see if hoofball continues v Sheffield Utd

their goal was disappointing = Brown;fail

with the chances created, we should have won the game = Mmm there were chances to win in the last 5 mins but not enough over the 90 mins

missed flecks guile once he went off = fleck impressed again (saw him at Accrington too)

barton was excellent, showed what he was about, he has quality = got onto the ball more as the game went on; super strike in second half onto post/bar

cody could be off and running with 4 goals = he had 4 good chances and missed 2, forced 1 save scored 1.

elliott looked sharp = for about 15 mins only

we dealt with most stuff that came = most stuff could mean losing 2-1 which we nearly did

first off everyone was nervous = ??

apart from goal was happy with how we dealt with things = so he's pleased with hoofball

we could have won the game = so could they have!

Just got back after a bit of a detour. That was one shit game.

The problem for me is that where last season we had Keogh and Cranie getting involved with passing moves, we now have a pair of panicky cloggers in Wood and Brown. This meant we couldn't keep possession and create.

Even when we had Elliot and McSheffrey upfront they kept lumping it at them - as did Clarke and Hussey actually.

When Jennings came on he was very visibly gesturing at everyone to calm down. Basically our players were nervous and fucked up - yet somehow we still could have scored several.

One last point - McSheffrey was a selfish disgrace today, taking on stupid shots on his weaker foot and turned down a late chance to play Elliot in one on one with their keeper. He also gestured at a City fan who'd been abusing him. Bad day all round.

I believe in Thorn's ability to sign good players - but tactically I'm not so sure. Just hope Wood can calm that back 4 down so they play the football they did last season. We're really going to miss Keogh and Cranie.

Cranie's passing out of defence last season was woeful. Has he signed for Barnsley? He didn't play today.

Also if they were so good last season at passing from defence why did we still lose practically every away game we played?

I hope we play very different football than last season - lacked desire, commitment and purpose and always played into the hands of the opposition.

Now this is what I feared: it explains the disconnect between what Thorn said we were going to do, and what we actually did do. Very worrying. Malaga sounded cultured from what I've heard, though? Maybe him in for Brown?

Like what you say about Jennings, sounds like a leader we need. But shouldn't Kilbane have been doing that?

I'm sorry but Cranie and Keogh were always more than willing to receive the ball and pass it around the back 4. That doesn't automatically mean we should've lost less games away, weird comment.

Cranie was never good at passing the ball out of defence. He could barely pass the ball 10 yards. As a full back he looked horribly uncomfortable going forward. This does not explain the disconnect. The explanation which is more likely is tactics made on the hoof and an ability to communicate effectively to players what is wanted.

Frankly Cranies passing it around cost us points last season so I've no problem with defenders clearing. As for the game; Fleck, Barton and Jennings looked class and Cody stole the ball of their last man twice in the last 5 mins so more goals will come. The game wasn't great by any stretch, but it wasn't all bad.

I think Cranie was five times the passer of a ball that Wood, Brown or Cameron are. I completely disagree, he was a ball-playing CB.

Lets hope Edge and Malaga can pass a ball

Without going to the game today that sounds like classic Mcsheffrey which we saw last season, always making poor decisions going for the spectacular 1 in 1000 shot instead of playing in a team mate

It was better than 1 in 1,000: was it the Reading shot that flew in from close to 30 yards? But agreed that he sounded selfish today.

Sorry just to clarify, McSheffrey was playing at the tip of the diamond, I meant to write that Wood and Brown kept lumping it towards McDonald and Elliot. It showed a real lack of intelligence and composure and Thorn was really pissed off on the touch line.

As NLHWC says - hopefully this is why the Frenchies have been drafted in; to make sure we continue playing football the right way out from the back.

If Wood and Brown are cloggers (which they are) then Ball should have stayed on as a target - rather than bringing on Elliot.

It may be that Thorn thought bringing Elliot on would force the defence to keep it on the ground, but it didn't happen.

Slightly worried by this, yet we still could have won by a few goals had chances been taken.

A big positive was Adam Barton looked class and a calming influence in midfield with silky skills.

Yeovil were rubbish, yet on BBC Somerset their fans were saying it was a good performance; so hopefully this is how crap much of our opposition will be...

One thing's for sure - we can only get better.

I'd agree wholeheartedly here Rich but for Yeovil were rubbish ,thought their passing, interplay movement ,tempo were excellent ,just the type of approach I was hoping for myself from our lads ,suggesting we lost in midfield, were poor at and from the back :(

Yeah, I certainly seem to be in the minority on that opinion Wingy. Maybe i'm expecting too much of them. I just thought that their play in the final third was a bit amatuerish.

I remember lots of simple passes down the wings by them being sliced out of play which i'd never seen so much of in a professional game.

I hope the rest of the league play at their level.

I came away feeling like we'd lost, but if we beat Sheff Utd (which I don't think we will) then i'll forgive yesterday.

On the plus side Rich, if AT is furious with the hoofing, that means it isn't his tactics. That had been my worry. Hopefully it can be stamped out.
