Actually Jimmy Hill showed it is ; however - in my opinion - the extended period in the top flight, where season after season we just plodded along. coupled with the negativity surrounding football violence made it a gradual turn off for a lot of fans (especially parents taking kids) That said, it was where my love for the club started.

Well I think a bigger factor was getting a billionaire in. They’re a good bunch of fans though for the most part and while it’s easy to be gracious after winning the league a lot of the goodwill to us that day seemed genuine.
Will be another 4-0 all things being equal I think

Saints fan here. I hope you guys enjoy the tie and the day out.
If any of you need to drive here (particularly if you're taking your family down) I'm more than happy to allow you to use my parking space for free. I live in a small close in the city centre a couple of hundred yards from the ground.
The area around St Marys can be a little rough although I live in the nicer bit the other side. I'm not sure if I'm going myself but I'm happy to meet you here to make sure you know where to go.
I'm not a huge fan of cars to be honest, hence my space doesn't get used much. Unfortunately drivers park all over the place round here too (double yellows, zig zags, pavement the lot), would much rather the space was put to good use on match days to mitigate some of this.
Just drop me a message over the next few weeks but if you're only going to drive from say 50 miles away and there's good public transport, it's probably best you use that unless it's prohibitively expensive.

Still don’t like the fact that the FA Cup has been so devalued.
If it could become a direct gateway to the Champions League then that’d revitalise the whole thing.
Something along the lines of:
4th place PL plays FA Cup winner (if not in 1st-4th in PL) at Wembley for the Charity Shield and the 4th CL spot.
Nearly every team will then absolutely go for it and the attendance and in turn TV revenues will fly.
FA Cup final day used to be the THE day. Now the play off final for going up from the Champ is bigger.
Just doesn’t seem right

Would that not devalue doing well in the league where you have to win many games against teams from your league? In the cup you could play lower league teams for many rounds and even get an easier final.
It used to be the day as it was one of the few if not only match on tv now we have loads of games.

That just illustrates how the 'big 6' et al have skewed the income at the expense of the rest of the football league. I also think this has been exacerbated by allowing so many PL registered players to be loaned out to the rest of the football league; players that otherwise wouldn't be so quick to sign for them. if their pathway to getting on the pitch was blocked. The rules need to be changed - albeit the 'big' clubs would argue that they need large squads to compete in Europe etc (makes you wonder how English clubs managed to win European trophies back in the 70s and 80s etc)

Points deduct every team who doesn’t win FA Cup as though they’ve gone into admin. -100 points or whatever propels the FA Cup winners to 4th
League Cup winners can have UEFA cup (or whatever it is now) spot.
We invented the game, not those sharks at FIFA andUEFA.

As others have said it’s dominated by champions league contenders anyway. Since Wimbledon only a couple of times it hasn’t been won by a handful of big teams

Joiners arms well worth a visit (if its open). Great bar & live music venue not too far from the ground. I've seen some top indie bands play there back in the day
If the optimum cup draw is a team that a) people care about b) people will show up to watch and c) we can likely beat, Southampton don't rate too highly on either scale.
That being said - didn't realise how quick you can get there on the train! Might go after all...

i agree but i would go one step further, 4th place shouldnt win anything in my book, top 3 get Champions League slot, winner of the FA cup gets the 4th. If its then the same team i'd be inclined to give the 4th slot to FA cup runner up, its the biggest/best domestic cup in the world and the winner should earn the right to play in Europe.
Will never happen though!

For me actually winning a competition gives you more right to play in the Champions League than finishing fourth in something.

I've read that cup games, they can allocate up to 4750 tickets? I'll be going to this, it's one of the grounds I've never been to.

All the people I know who are St's fans only turn up when a big team is about. So would need to be priced cheap for a big home attendance
I suspect that's the case. Would imagine it will be later this week when we get an official confirmation of date/time and ticket release dates (Phase 1 elites a week today?)

Yeah that's what got me. Opted for a £40 Premier Inn. Saves the 3/4 hour train journey back after a day on the beers.
