I have seen a fair few of them at city games, I don't see the problem with them myself. They create more of an atmosphere than sitting there eating prawn sandwiches and giving passive aggressive looks at people who are swearing.

I also suppose it would have been a good idea if we had a good attack going and the ref blew his whistle to stop the game because a purple smoke bomb had been thrown on the pitch in the penalty area. Any goal could have been disallowed. Still would have been a good idea?

I have only ever seen a flare or smoke bomb being used to any decent effect at a champions league game I went to in the Czech Republic. At games in the UK they look pretty pants most of the time, just a billow of smoke from a quietish stand that blows over the pitch in daylight looking rather pathetic. I think there are other atmosphere inducing rights we fans should be fighting for such as standing terraces in stadiums that should be getting more attention than creating a bit of smoke.
