Has Sammy Clingan been linked with anybody yet? (2 Viewers)

Has anybody heard anything of him being linked with anybody? Last week he was dropped from NI and now he still isn't linked which is cutting it a bit fine.

Might end up like Stephen Wright training on his own for half a season.

is he actually fit now after injury ........ perhaps that is holding him up getting a new team too

It seems like a bit of a risk to not sign a contract and not have anything else lined up. Unless he is planning some time out before getting back into it??

Wasn't he seriously injured 2 or 3 months out at the end of season? No team is going to sign an injured player in these austere times, especially at Champ level. I know its fashionable to slag of any player who leaves as crap etc but I for one hope he gets fit and gets a club, he was a decent player who spent half a season babysitting kids in our midfield.

If babysitting means playing kids into trouble and then berating them for it, then yes, he did an excellent job.

Is that the one where Puyet specifically told their strikers to pressure him / our midfield as we like to pass it back and would slip up?

Didn't know that it obviously worked then, was straight from kick off he tried to pass back to one of our centre backs got know where near and think Makail-Smith scored

Yep Poyet said they had noticed he often passed it back to a defender without looking beforehand or something like that

To be fair on his day he is a great player to have in your team, but last season i was tired of seeing him put his hand up in apology to his teammates after yet another wayward pass.

Hop he finds another club.

The goal away at Brighton sticks in my mind shocking pass

To me he seems to be a kind of player that looks good in a good team, but looks poor in a struggling team. Don't offer a lot up front.

Time off after a 3 month break? :D

A bit like an ice cream man wanting summer off.

He really must've thought that he is better than he actually is. The guy was shocking last season and I am truly not surprised that anyone wants to take him on at 5-10k per week.Even when he is available for free.

He will find a club when he realises he isn't as good as he thinks.

Average championship player and wasn't worth the money he was asking for

I'm not sure what team he would fit into though? He is just too careless for my liking and that wasn't just a bad season that's every time I've seen him play (including at national level).

Both Cranie and Keogh had to settle for a lesser move than they had hoped for and, I'm guessing, their agents promised. Sammy will be the same, but let's not let that stop us having a dig at Scapegoat Sammy and leaving Keogh and Cranie alone.
Prejudice confirmed.

Pretty odd statement - in terms of financial reward Keogh received far more than he could have hoped for - he turned Cardiff and Bristol down and is reputedly getting £10K a week as well as a sizeable signing on fee.

Keogh went to an average Champ club on more money ... Not the move he would have hoped for.
Cardiff and Bristol City were not prepared to pay more as they thought he wasn't worth it. He would have only been a squad player at Cardiff, not first choice.

Keogh went to an average Champ club on more money and as captain, but what the hell has that got to do with Sammy not finding a club?

If you think Keogh and Crainie deserve a thread slating them then go start one. And yes I have a prejudice against Sammy. I watched him for two seasons and built an opinion of him first though. So you will find my prejudice is with good grounds.

Keogh and Cranie enhanced or maintained their reputations whilst at City. Clingan merely confirmed that he is a serial relegation candidate. He needs to accept that he is worth no more than 2 to 3k a week, then he will find a club willing to take him on. Personally I'm happy that the balance is shifting and that journeyman professionals can no longer fleece a string of clubs and their fans.

But Keogh and Cranie both played much better than Clingan last year

Keogh was player of the season and deserved to be playing at a higher level and we got a fee which softens the blow.

Also a lot of similar comments have been made about Cranie from myself and others about how he was another who had an overinflated opinion of what wage he should be payed

Don't see any difference myself. Players listen to their agents and try to get the best deal they can. Some are turning that into an opportunity to sneer at Sammy. No need for it, in my view.
No evidence that Sammy thinks himself any higher than any other player does, except in the minds of those that don't like him.

And every club in the championship as he is currently unemployed.

Please explain to me then, why Sammy has left CCFC if, we offered him another contract (No evidence the we did) and is now struggling to get a club?

n.b. this has nothing to do with any other player in the footballing world.

No evidence that any of the players that left were even offered new contracts.
No evidence what wages they were offered or asked for or refused.
All is speculation, sprinkled with prejudice.
Note, dozens of players have no club yet and many will not until the transfer window closes.
FWIW I don't believe Sammy or Cranie were offered a contract for this season by SISU.

And why is he struggling to find a club? Can't you answer a straight question without bringing others into it?

I seem to recall their being an article in the telegraph late last season and it was noticable that they mentioned players who had been offered new contracts and Sammy wasn't on there. Seems a bit odd that he's not been linked with anyone which can only lead you to assume his agent is asking too much.
