Doesn't appear that the Pompey fans have taken a shine to him, one poster on their forum has written "the worst striker I have had the misfortune to watch". Hopefully this stint won't damage his value too much.
That’s keyboard warriors for you, there’s plenty in here.

It's far too early to write him off at Portsmouth, but he is another classic.

Blindly defended by some, ridiculed by others, but to most fans he just isn't that good. To have some people suggesting he was better than Godden up until recently was baffling. His goal record apart from Mansfield in League 2 is bang average.

Hopefully he can settle in well down there and score some goals, then we can move him on in the summer.

Was at the game. He struggled and looked isolated despite playing in a three (that could well also be the fault of who was alongside him to be fair to Walker). On the rare occasions he got the ball he did too much and lost it when other options were available. It should be said though that he didn’t have much time to prepare to play with new team mates. Hopefully once he’s settled in a bit he’ll do better over the coming weeks.

He's not exactly had many minutes this season either so undoubtedly will be rusty. 20 mins here or there in most of the games he's featured in and in the rest he's been brought on in the final few minutes.

He'll need a run of games for him to get match sharp.

Since his spell at Lincoln he's very rarely played a regular 90 minutes, think he's only had 2 full games for us this season? And only a handful last season. He could really benefit from a good run of games.

I've always thought he's a decent player but looks to have completely lost confidence
He's trying hard but Portsmouth looked more dangerous once he'd gone off midweek against Charlton

Doesn't help that he's playing in a team in a wretched run of form either. I've watched some of their recent games & they're creating very little, look devoid of any ideas.

Scoring rate at Lincoln was up there with Ivan Toney in the season he was at Peterborough. There’s definitely a player in there.

And I do think he's better than Godden.

Godden's in better form, and Robins disagrees with me. I do firmly believe Walker will score more goals over his career at this level than Godden, however.

Its safe to say moving here has been regressed his career

Yep, and also safe to say at some stage he was Robins' first choice, who he rated better than Godden. Certain games define a career too, such as Barnsley away(?) this season, where he played pretty well but got injured, Gyo got scoring and there was no way back into the side for him, where the stage was set for a Gyo/Walker pairing at that point.

Funny how we see things differently I’ve seen him have decent moments in games and scored some well taken goals but almost all the times I’ve seen him play he’s so frustrating there always seems to be lapses in concentration needs to start scoring and quick he’s in a bit of a shop window now.

Godden has scored 2 more Championship goals than Walker - Walker is 25

I've got Walker as scoring 14 championship goals in 95 appearances, whilst Godden has 16 championship goals in 45 appearances? Where are you getting your stats from?

To be fair to Walker, a lot of those appearances will have been limited minutes as a sub. But at the same time, most of Goddens appearances came last season when he was struggling with injury. Godden clearly has more of a claim to being a proven Championship striker, Walkers stats don't look good at this level.

27 of his 40 games at Forest were sub appearances and he was a teenager when he started - last season he was off with Covid but came back and looked an instinctive striker who could poach goals

If you exclude penalties Walker actually has more Championship goals than Godden.

All rather misleading though, fairest way is NPG/90 (non penalty goals per 90mins) this way you're factoring in minutes played & the fact one is a regular penalty taker.

Championship overall:
Walker 0.19 NPG/90
Godden 0.37 NPG/90

For City (Championship only) their stats are a lot more even than you might expect given Godden's excellent ratio this season:
Walker 0.36 NPG/90
Godden 0.38 NPG/99

Overall Careers to date
- All EFL & Cup competitions (excludes non league)
Walker 0.42 NPG/90
Godden 0.39 NPG/90

Both very good strikers with good scoring rates.

I still think Walker will come good. As others have alluded to, at Walker's age Godden had just joined League 2 from non league. They have had very different career paths with Godden definitely improving with age.

Walker needs to find a club, system & style that suits him & nurtures him to really deliver on his undoubted ability. Will that be us? Remains to be seen but certainly looking less likely. I wouldn't bet against him smashing it elsewhere though & lots of hindsight posts about how we should have kept him à la JCH or similar.

Walker's confidence must be on the floor. I agree he will come good, his positioning and movement in the box is decent yet since Kane (the best crosser at the club) has played regularly Walker hasn't.

I still rate Walker. My hope for his time with us being considered a big success is slowly dissipating but I'm still clinging onto it! I think he's an instinctive goal scorer, good finisher and his work rate is better than some here give him credit for. The lack of game time has clearly been an issue for him and hasn't done him any favours, but put simply - he's got to make it count now.

I'd still have Gyo over all the strikers at the club. He doesn't finish as well, but his strength on the ball is remarkable and creates more chances.

It's one disaster after another with this player,he needs a sustained run in Pompey and become confident and get match fit.
