My take so far.... (4 Viewers)

I think we need to realise that we only really have 1 first 11 capable of playing robins style and it includes godden and dabo. Ohare plays better with both of those in the team. Dabo gives us balance because of his engine and link up play, godden has amazing positional awareness. Something we have lacked. Even Kelly's composure in midfield although sheaf has done great replacing that. (Eventually) Players like Kane, Bidwell, Maatsen, JCS etc need time to adapt.(although 2 of them are off end of season) If we can keep the spine and add some quality then next season could be amazing. Its been a case of square pegs in round holes as the seasons gone on which is a shame given the start but not unsurprising given the squad. If you take away our injury time goals we are much lower down, those results kind of gave us a bit of false hope as we probably deserved draws. Its incredible where we are and to still be in playoff contention is testament to everyone's will and drive. If the season ended now I have fully enjoyed it. PUSB.

Very good take on things the only trouble is most of the younger fans have only seen the last few seasons and can only see the dizzy heights of the Premier league. Correct we played some great football and are now getting found out with suspensions and injuries but this is where we could of done with a few more additions in the January window on loan just to give us back up and maybe make the play offs which I think are beyond us now (but you never know). Crowds will start dropping as the form gets a bit worse just hope the great atmosphere that has been created this season continues.

Absolutely, I got ridiculed at the sky blue tavern last night for suggesting id be happy when we are mathematically safe 😂. The yoof didn't get it, and kudos to robins et al for giving them so much optimism.

I've always said mathematically safe is the goal, but am constantly shot down on here for pessimism.

Old school fan im guessing? Maybe we are cynical and pessimistic but its better for our health in the long run 👍

This season we’ve made excellent progress

do the owners have the ambition to help robins improve the team to a play off side next season

a lot of clubs will want our players in the summer

Most of the younger fans and a whole generation see us as a lower league club.

I see where the OP is coming from, but I'm afraid I do not agree. All teams have late goals or lady luck. Over the course of a season it tends to average out. We are where we are in the league thanks to having a good side. Results of late have largely disappointed, but again all teams have bad spells. With key injuries that is to be expected. While I do not agree the likes of Shipley should be getting yet another chance, overall Robins has been very good. We must get back to the settled side we know can compete strongly. Bidwell is cover and Maetsen should be back in his normal position come Saturday. Dabo while missing is not as crucial, as Kane had been tremendous but seems to have lost his form of late? Godden is key to our goal tally. Waghorn I never rated, and Gyko is a handful for any team when on top of his game. The problem area is midfield. Hamer is more important than most think. But Allen can be good or ineffective. Kelly tends to settle the side more, and I think he is missed within the side. Jodi Jones is fit and chomping at the bit. Quite why he is not the prefered choice left side midfield over Shipley is a little strange. He has goals in him and we need goals. JCH must play to balance the left. Rose must make way. All teams have the same problems, and all teams have great runs. Forest had a great run as have Sheff.Utd but they both have tough fixtures coming. Blackburn, QPR, Middlebrough the same. The top six is still within us. It's a long way to go. But we must be strong in our resolve and and get players back who bring confidence to the side when they are playing. This whole thing about tiredness is nonsense. They are footballers. If they are tired then alter the training. Robin's must fire them up for Saturday. Some say investment and I agree that would be nice but who would you buy over what we have? Strangely a Tom Bayliss type of midfielder is what we need, driving forward and have one or two goals in him. Whatever happened to him at Preston?

Jones is not really a goalscorer - he had a month or two in League Two but his overall record is not much better than O’Hare’s

I've enjoyed this season so far , we've played some fantastic stuff at times and look a real decent side on the up .

That's how I feel

I agree. But I still bemoan a poor January which could have made the season even better.

Agree on Dabo.

Kane seems to be Cafu in the eyes of many on here but I don't see it.

We're a better team with Dabo in the side in my opinion.

When Kane starts: P14 W3 L5
When Dabo starts: P19 W8 L5

Now clearly that's not all down to whether Dabo or Kane plays and i'm not suggesting it is, just that I think we're a better team with Dabo.

Baylis is on loan a league below us and not ripping up any trees. A player who had his only decent spell for us in L2 is often suggested as someone we need. McNulty couldn't step up either and tbh the jury is even out on people like Walsh. We've all seen the Shipley posts and many here agree this is probably beyond him despite the odd cameo moment last season and this, yet again there is a clamour for Jodi. He might step up as might Tavares, but again neither of them have done it at his level and nothing yet to convince the management team who see them day in and out against their peers that they will. I think the op is spot on that our 1 to 11 is decent but we need squad depth to compete.

I've told you to change your name it wont have the same clout now as you thought it would. Maybe change it to "Bidwellisgod" for a few weeks. There's a good lad.

Nicely put. But if you see Godden as an integral part of the style of play, and many believe him and Gyokeres can't play together, where does Gyokeres fit in?

I’ll be flabbergasted if the first team are training tomorrow following their day off. I’d expect the players that haven’t been playing or coming back from injury to train but not the others.

If they do train tomorrow and the tired excuses are wheeled out on Saturday ill shake my head with disbelief.

I agree and many on this forum are either too unrealistic or been spoiled.
We are having the best season for 20 years in the championship playing good sides and getting 20k plus gates most weeks. We are top half currently and pushing to go upwards still.

we have finished:

playoff winner league 2

league 1- 8th

league 1 winners

championship 16th

Currently 12th championship

I’m sorry but that’s a miracle with no financial support whatsoever and yet another ground share for 2 of those seasons. As far as I’m concerned Mark Robins deserves a statue really. What he has achieved with us as a complete basket case and utter failure of a club is nothing short of a miracle.

every single year we have improved both in the table and on the pitch. It’s a fact. Let’s enjoy the football and this over achieving group of players we have who give everything for this shirt. I for one am loving it and there is more to come. I’ve had my first season ticket for many years this year and I shall renew. It’s been brilliant and yes we will sell players we have to but unless finances change or a big fluke then championship is our ceiling.

We were better than last season for 3 months. Since November form wise we have been on par with last season.

In that time Blackburn, Forest and Middlesborough have built up momentum and overtaken us and only Blackburn look like faltering. Our run at the start of the season is looking like a small surge and not a sustained push in any shape or form. It’s the hope that kills you.

I think it's still possible to agree with all that and still question why he wasn't allowed to bring in a couple of more decent players to bolster our small squad.

We were always going to fall away unless we had miraculous luck with injuries and suspensions.
It's also worth noting that we just look far more like a championship side than last season.

My main concern is the owners won't try and push for further improvement in the summer, in which case they should fuck off

What I don’t get is all the solid foundations being built etc - it’s almost like some have forgotten our top players are likely to be sold this summer.

I have to agree.

@oldskyblue58 might be better placed to chip in here as it's more his remit but there are liabilities which the club simply can't pay off without a pretty big injection of cash, that can only really come from a player sale/s. Namely debt/interest owed and there's of course the EFL loan looming over the club's head, which has to be paid back within 3 years I believe but I could be wrong about that without double checking.

We are safe although not mathematically.
Bottom 3 wont get anywhere near 44 points to survive. Cant see posh getting 24 points from 15 games. When they about managed 20 from 30 games. Or Derby. Bottom 3 are down already.

Now clearly that's not all down to whether Dabo or Kane plays and i'm not suggesting it is, just that I think we're a better team with Dabo.

To be fair 5 of dabos wins were in the first 7 games of the season, which was part of the electric start we had 22 points from 11 games (2 ppg)

His stats coinciding with the poor form since then 22 points from 19 (1.16 ppg), dabo has 3 wins from 12, which is not far off Kanes record, which suggests the form has dropped off anyway, and Dabo being missing has had negligible impact on that. All bar 3 of Kanes starts have been during this period. That said Kane has been terrible the last 2 games.

We should recall De Costa P2 W2.
