I see Russia going with the false flags as expected and pretending that Ukraine are invading them to justify their actions.

The West as a whole has been pretty toothless to date, it’s tricky as without getting into a full on war/nuclear war there isn’t much we can do other than support Ukraine militarily and threaten heavy sanctions

One good thing is that the US and ourselves have been using our intelligence to publicly call out Russian plans like false flags, not actually withdrawing troops etc which you would hope makes it harder for Putin to bullshit his way through this

I always felt Putin would eventually pull back but now it feels like either invasion or ‘will he/won’t he’ going on for a while yet

We've done more than most to embolden Putin.

Yeah, it’s been going on for years. We only have to look at Abramovich for the football related example but not sure about emboldening Putin in relation to Ukraine.

The flip side is we could potentially freeze assets etc if necessary (if government is willing to do this)

The wests reliance on Russian gas is a far greater influencer

It's not just because of allowing him and his cronies to wash money through London but its part of it.

Also, yes we're overly reliant on Russia for gas but their economy is over reliant on selling it to us.

Agree with that. All this has done is make Europe finally realise Putin can’t be trusted and we need more secure/reliable energy sources. Kind of backfired for him in that sense

The worrying thing is that it's got to that stage whereby he cannot back down as his ego and public image in Russia won't let him.

You need to find a way of getting him to do it that makes him feel like he's won. Bit like Trump really.

Trouble is I can't think of anyone at the moment, certainly in the U.S. or U.K. that won't do anything other than antagonise him and make the situation worse.

Haha! If Russia invades we'll stop them getting away with shit we've turned a blind eye to upto now.

Does that twat ever think before he speaks?
It does seem a bit odd that their robust counter offensive is basically admitting they've been letting the Russians (and others) get away with all sorts of the financial misdoings for years. Which they've strenuously denied has happened in the past.

Almost like they can't be trusted...

Oh come on. It’s not like Boris made a Putin Crony a life peer in the House of Commons. Wait, what… he did.

The Queen is now on light duties. She has already changed one bulb and three dimmer switches.

Joke shamelessly stolen from elsewhere.

I think this invasion of Ukraine will almost certainly, probably, possibly, slow down Putin's application for the House of Lords, unless he can pay for some further redecoration of No. 10 or bump off a few awkward journos for Boris.

In the meantime, I have absolutely no doubt that we have the best Government money can buy.

Meanwhile... good to see our improved animal rights legislation is going well.

Is this peak Tory? Sounds like an evening at the Rees-Moggs.
Funny how a paper who campaigned for Brexit on not being part of this nasty French/EU cruelty are now running this story under the headline of Brexit bonanza.

It's crazy. He says that an independent nation shouldn't be allowed to join an international body if it so chooses, then decides parts of same said country can do what they like.

The fact he said Ukraine wasn't a real state is chilling and pretty much sets up his next move.

He is very close to becoming the Hitler of this age.

This thread is a pretty good summary of what he said.

It's fucking nuts.

Truly fucking terrifying, yet I bet the Russian people lap it up because of the state control of the media and information. He's basically said Ukraine has bullied Russia (?!) and is being used as a base for a U.S. invasion of Russia!

The man should be lobotomised!

Yeah, he’s basically just attempting to justify reclaiming Ukraine to the Russian people as they’re the ones who will be hit/hurt by the sanctions

Thanks for the Twitter feed PVA, I tried to watch for a while and he was just ranting on about all sorts…and as the thread indicates rewriting history by all accounts. Totally lost it.

I doubt he believed much of what he said today, he simply needs to manufacture consent among the people for what comes next. All that's missing is a few false flags

Doesn't vlad haven't anyone who will say "just think about this now?"

He's basically just destroyed his own economy and he can't risk war as even an aerial conflict would see the west with their far more modern and better equiped forces win.
