TBF his record has been 200-400 MPG at this level relatively consistently until this season where it’s over 800 MPG. Whatever the reason he’s had an abnormally poor season with us for goal scoring.

I still don't think he's a poor signing (but my, he was bad at the weekend!) but my general point is he ain't your bang in a load of goals striker - I'd say poor man's Adrian Heath, but at his peak with Everton, Heath was a guaranteed double figures a season striker.
Walker and Godden are the 'goalscorers' really, with Waghorn and Gyorkeres being the goal providers with punch. I'd be surprised if Gyokeres could maintain his scoring form of early season consistently through his career unless he improves his finishing.

No I’d agree, just saying that by his own standards he’s having a poor season. Probably fitness and covid.

He is. The concern in a general sense would be last season was fairly poor for him too, so got to hope it's a blip because of circumstance, and not his general decline.

Let’s remember Waghorn was brought in ahead of Gyokeres and knowing Godden had his foot injury, he started as partner to Gyo and without setting the world alight was okay, thankfully Gyo hit the ground running scoring almost every game. Waghorn got his shoulder injury and hasn’t been the same player since imo. I’m sure it’s a position Robins is looking at even with Tavares now in the frame.

Would another club pay the wages he's on here doubtful with how this season has gone? Would imagine he would sit out the final year of his contract?

Probably not, but if Cov cut their losses gave him a free transfer he could then negotiate his own deal & signing on fee or as you say sit out his last year.

We’ve seen the Brentford model being discussed. Quick look on Soccebase about their transfer history over last few years - can’t see many 31 year old journeymen - even on frees.

Thought Waghorn started off really well early season and was starting to develop a good partnership with Viktor - Don't get it with these fans- you don't become a bad player overnight - The guy hasn't played for 3 or 4 months needs games in his legs - training does not give you the same- I am sure the management team are closely monitoring his fitness and have the patience to give it time which he needs

All credit to Tavares for his goal but does he really have 'fantastic' potential? He's 21 and still predominantly plays in the U23s.

Some players do go from good to bad players quickly, not overnight but over a period of months. Waghorn was a 1 in 6 striker last season and has regressed further this year while also having covid issues.
Maybe he just doesn't have it any more.

How old was Ian wright when he began to shine, Jamie Vardy another, this lad does have potential and if he can reproduce finishes like he did on Saturday he'll soon be in the starting 11

On paper, Waghorn was just the type of signing most fans wanted us to make. He’s a vastly experienced player at this level, a majority of games for teams that competed at the top end of the championship.
I actually think he was playing reasonably well until he got Covid.
He is clearly not up to match speed and has struggled to re-adapt to our style of play. I wouldn’t write him off just yet, but if we can upgrade on him in the summer with a younger player then I would do so.
I’m not sure why Bidwell has got so much stick on here, he’s done alright.Anyone with an ounce of football knowledge can see there is far more to come from Bidwell.

I think those examples are exceptions rather than the rule really.
It's clear Tavares has raw ability but to say he has 'fantastic' potential when he's 21 and has only featured twice for us is very OTT.
Equally, arguing against that on the basis that he might become another Ian Wright is a bit ridiculous.

What losses? we signed him after his contract expired didn't we?
I thought MR signed him predominately for his pressing game, rather than his goal scoring record. He started the season well on that criteria, but has obviously been affected by lack of match fitness.
I have a feeling Sunderland might be interested in him next season if they don't get promoted, provided he can sort his fitness out.

I don’t know but I suspect part of his deal would comprise a signing on fee that’s what tends to happen with “free” transfers.

If he was 18/19 I'd probably be inclined to agree with you but I personally don't think there's anything overly special about a ST of Tavares' age netting regularly in the U23s as he's playing at an advantage. He's far more experienced than many of his opponents (many of which who will either play no higher than NL or drop out of the game completely in the coming years) and he will be more athletically further along in his development as well.
Ponticelli probably a prime example of why a decent U23 scoring record can be quite misleading.

Both of those strikers (Ian Wright, Vardy) had a long time in their early 20’s non-league. Often such players play on until their mid 30’s. I guess Godden may too. As too Fadz - both non-league early on.
Charlie Austin, Les Ferdinand, Deeney, Ricky Lambert, Grant Holt, Kevin Phillips, even Paul Furlong went on and played (for long)
and were top strikers at 32,33,34 and older. Don’t know why but that seems to be how things go. Maybe they appreciate things more or haven’t been run into the ground at 21-24.
I predict Godden will go another 3 years, Waghorn not so, partly for the reason above.
