We had Boddy in the media talking about taking no less than 5m for star players hamer & O’Hare names mentioned they clearly wanted a buyer in January, neither left

Can you point me to the link where Boddy said we'd take no less than £5m for Hamer and O'Hare?

All I've seen is him mentioning in a programme that we've turned down significant offers for a player.

He has all the stats...why were the club trying to find a buyer in jan coming out with figures to the media ? Surely that’s the last thing you want to do no ?
Jesus, you talk absolute tripe. We were trying to find a buyer in January? What's your source?

The 3 above him are all regular set piece takers for their club too.
O'Hare has created more chances from open play than anyone in the Championship.

I am just curious though, and I´m not looking to argue here, but if the chances he is creating are up there, why are his assists so low?

It can´t be just that our players always seem to miss conveniently when he is setting them up every single time. We have two strikers who are extremely clinical.

Maybe his final ball just isn´t good enough?

Yep, agreed. The team as a whole don't really create amazing, gilt-edged chances but O'Hare is usually the one creating something as evidenced.

Went into more detail on it before (link below) but in my opinion we take lots of shots from unfavorable positions & low xG opportunities.

Picking up on comments on other threads about our missing of opportunities (namely "if Godden was available v QPR" or "if we had ourselves a Brereton-Diaz we'd be where Blackburn are" etc.) I thought it might be interesting to do an analysis of our goal scoring & creating stats.

Is it fair to say we're missing lots of gilt-edged chances?
Or are we failing with our final ball?
Perhaps we're just taking poor quality shots overall?

So... Some numbers & my thoughts on them.

We've scored 34 goals from an xG of 34.9 (9th in the league).
2 of those are own goals admittedly so 32 from an xG of 34.9, not massive underperformance by any means.
For example you can attribute 0.77xG to Gyökeres's penalty miss v Barnsley alone.

One number that stands out is our number of shots per game.
We rank 3rd for Shots per game (13.9)
& joint 2nd for Shots on Target per game (4.9)

Thankfully, compared to last season, we rank only 8th for Woodwork hit so far this season!

So on this basis, it certainly seems we're creating shooting opportunities. Are they 'good' opportunities though?

I think some were surprised by the xG numbers from the QPR game (1.82 for us v 2.61 for them) considering we had 21 shots, but actually, I think they do a pretty decent job of underlining our problem, namely we take lots of poor quality shots. By that I don't mean the technique of the shot itself but more that we take lots of shots from unfavorable positions & low xG opportunities.

For example, Todd Kane had 2 shots v QPR that combined for a grand total of 0.05 xG, O'Hare with 4 shots for 0.18 xG, Hamer with 3 shots totalling 0.14x G etc etc.
The highest single chance xG was Waghorn's late chance for 0.50 xG.

So, Chances Created...

We rank 15th in the league for "Big Chances Created" with 29.

A "big" chance is defined as one that you typically have an above average chance of scoring from. Different providers can rate them slightly differently but typically assume anything over 0.30 xG is deemed a "Big" chance.
So, really, especially when you compare this number to some of the other teams (less than Birmingham, Cardiff & a handful more than Peterborough, Hull, Reading etc) we don't really create as many high quality scoring opportunities as our shot numbers & overall control of games would indicate.

So, to conclude...
I still maintain we're not far off where we want to be but we lack a little quality & cutting edge in the final third. A little of that is on the finishing but the vast majority, at least in my opinion, is on the final pass, chance creation & shot selection.

*EDIT
To add to this as naturally Gyökeres is coming under scrutiny for his goalscoring drought, his 9 goals have come from 8.73 xG

Interested to hear others thoughts.

Except it was a .13 chance of converting.....

But he doesn’t score them 13% of the time, that’s the issue. He scores then more like 3% of the time.

You can write off each of ten 0.1 chances as 0.1 chances but overall he should still score one of them.

The hyperbole on each side is ridiculous, as others have said he’s a great player and adds a lot but his finishing is abysmal, worst in the squad.

The xG provider I was using has actually subsequently updated the xG from the game & revalued it at 0.33 which seems more realistic but still far from a 'gimme'.

Couldn't agree more though, it's not this chance in isolation (and single chance xG is not what the model is really designed for) it's the consistent missed opportunities, even if not exactly gilt-edged.

He is still absolutely vital to everything this team is about though, to call him "a burden" is frankly ridiculous.

It’s got to the point where you’d genuinely rather have Hyam or MacFadzean on the end of any chance over our superstar attacking midfielder.

Any other club and O’Hare would be getting slated and rightly so. City fans area different breed.

He, like you, consistently missing the target for goals and hackneyed wind ups respectively

Outplayed like the home game vs Swansea in which he did play. What does this prove? We’ve created more this game than that one as well.

I hope O’Hare is out for a good 4-5 weeks now so we can have a run of games without him.

This is much worse than the home game. Much worse.

We could have scored 2 or 3 this game and they’ve had 3 chances and scored. It’s not been a good performance by any stretch of the imagination, but I think you’re forgetting how much we were outclassed in the home game.

So you forgive our other players for missing chances? That's good. You're on the right path...

What? Where have I forgiven anyone? :ROFLMAO:
I’m responding to you comparing the two performances. We’ve created a hell of a lot more in this game than the home game.

You just seem less bothered about other players missing their chances today? You haven't mentioned these players by name?
