Always had respect for him despite leaving us in the shit when he left, but yesterday really has changed my opinion on him. A disgraceful way to set a team up. Dirty bastards.

Pretty much my thoughts, have questioned him as a manager but have always thought as a man he possessed some integrity, but he didn't show that yesterday.
Though to be fair, I've let myself down on numerous Saturday afternoons, and that just since the turn of the year so people in glasshouse and all that.....

So make it 2 halves of 30 minutes. Clock only runs when the ball is active. Wouldn't need a ref to manage it either & the timekeeping could be linked directly to the scoreboard so we all know where we stand.

If sports with a fixed game time (NBA, NFL etc) are anything to go by, then doing this would just place even more emphasis on clock management than there already is.

Leaving the end of the game in the hands of the ref like football does is chaotic and often pretty fun. I don’t see how anyone who’s watched us at home this season could fail to see that.

How about doing that and playing 45 minutes each way, like we have for the last 100 years.

Wouldn't bother me, but you would have to accept 3pm games finishing at 6pm if you did that. It is widely accepted that ball is in play for no more than 30 minutes a half in games at present, which is why it is proposed, as it is more in line with the 45 minute halves we currently have.

I disagree - you wouldn't be able to manage the clock by taking ages over goal kicks, throw ins or set pieces, or feigning injuries, or taking ages over substitutions or over celebrating goals, as the clock would be stopped in all those circumstances. You would only be able to manage the clock by using footballing skills, by keeping possession etc. I don't see how knowing exactly how much time is left would have prevented any of our late goals this season. In fact I suspect it would help heap even more pressure on the defending team trying to hold out against us.

On the NBA/NFL comparison the one thing we should never do though is introduce time outs.

Six minutes added yesterday was about right but in those six minutes a lot of things happened, the moronic pitch invader, an epidemic of Rovers players going down with cramp, a substitution, all eats time.

The passage of time has probably eroded your memories, but League 2 was terrible for it. Every team that came to the Ricoh took eternities over set pieces, throw ins & substitutions. The biggest wind up for me was goalkeepers taking a minute or so to take goal kicks. Can't remember the particular game, but there was one match where the physio was also in on it too. Players kept going down 'injured' on the opposite side to the benches and the physio kept just ambling across to treat them taking up minutes that were not added on at the end of the game. Hopefully someone will remember the particular match I'm thinking of.

Correct, noticeably gets worse the further down the leagues you look.

In his interview he sounded like a desperate man who knows he is going to get sacked.

Seems inevitable.
I've said on past threads that overall I honestly believe he's done a really good job there, turning them from a basket case into a young team on the up. Definitely seems to have taken them as far as he can now though.

Typed out this exact reply then saw you'd already done it for me

Because it's not representative of the actual amount of time the ball is in play. Games would end up lasting the best part of three hours. So if a ball is in play for approx. 30mins out of 45 under current rules, having 45 mins with a stopped clock would increase their workload by a third. They'd be dropping like flies.

Yeah..and.....let's split play into quarters, let's make the goals bigger, let's have a break away European "super"league, let's ban relegation from top divisions, let's have a world cup in the winter....in a country where it's illegal to drink....

Games gone.
Cunts.
The lot of them.

It's embarrassing their reaction to the extra minutes. I was watching on some dodgy stream which cut out at 91 mins with their guy down. When I finally found another, it came back on 94 mins and the same bloke was lying on the deck with both legs in the air for cramp.

Diaz was faffing about, they all were. Ref was shocking but he got that bit correct but it's about time it started to get highlighted, it's not dark arts and it's not clever tactical play, it's ridiculous and they only have themselves to blame.

Huddersfield away was another where they spent the entire second half wasting time, their cb went down 3 times after we'd just missed a chance and were banging on the door, we'll they got what they deserved too

MINIMUM TIME ADDED ON.

MINIMUM.
The issue is sometimes the refs just blow at that time don’t they? I agree with above its not clever play or managing the game it’s cheating. Clever play is passing it around going nowhere or keeping it in the corner and winning corners or throw ins. What they did just pissed the ref off. Our players were superb about it I think at one point nyambe was helped by one of our players with cramp. You’d like to think that gets noticed but it’s unlikely.

I genuinely can’t believe Mowbray was being honest it’s must have been distraction

Rather than cussing and moaning it's blown up in his face, if he hasn't sanctioned this kind of play he should be laying into his own team and coaching staff ... if they're going down like flies they need a bollocking for not taking fitness seriously.

It's always a minimum. When have you seen a ref blow for full time before the minimum time has been reached?

On this occasion I mean it was refreshing to see a referee add on the appropriate time that the game wasn't in play.

On your question though, I've watched a few games now where the ref has blown up 10 seconds or so before the time on the screen. Unless the TV clock is out of sync to the refs watch.

That’s why Mowbray whinges cause on another day the ref blows up at 6 min

I never really had a huge amount of respect for him to be honest. He managed the players poorly in the season when we had Armstrong, and after that it was a tumble down into the abyss. Since, he has gone to another club with his entourage and I am certain there should be questions about their motivations with selling the training ground there too.

The comments from him were exactly what has been said on here, a desperate man losing control of things in front of him and looking to blame someone else. Their form since Christmas is astonishing (well, if it didn´t happen every season), and I am not sure how much longer he can hold on to his job.

Just to make the point, in rugby they don't stop the clock every time the ball is out of play. It's in the ref's control, and he'll usually stop it for substitutions and injuries, and for occasionally dealing with disciplinary issues and things like VAR analysis.

I think something similar could work for football, and personally speaking, I'd quite like to see it attempted. The shithousing around fake injuries in particular is getting ridiculous...

I was going to say the same thing. You don't have to stop the clock for every single little incident, but if someone is deemed to be time wasting for instance, if would be perfect.

The trouble is that by doing that the problem remains. Referees already have the authority to add time for time wasting! I'm fine with people being traditionalists (I am for the most part too) but in respect to this issue I think we have to keep things as they are and trust referees to deal with the 'game management' issues, and just accept the inconsistencies we see are just a part of the game, or radically change to something like 30 minute halves where the clock only runs when the ball is active. I don't see that half measures will solve anything.

I don't think we need to reinvent the wheel. Referees already have enough on their plate, just let the 4th official be in charge of timekeeping.
