It appears Maatsen may be tested in Chelsea first team squad next season. restrictions on Chelsea are in place and and has been suggested they bring him back as they only have Alonso covering and according to an article I read the call is to bring in Maatsen to the fold after a successful 36 + games for Coventry. So looks unlikely and that would be a shame.

No chance. Chilwell will be fit for next season and Alonso will drop into back up.
Plus the bidders for Chelsea is fairly advanced so I expect come Aug new owners will be in place and all restrictions against them lifted.

Would love us to sign Maatsen and JCS from them. AndId Have Maatsen over McCallum every day of the week. He’s a much better player & prospect.

What’s the point in having JCS if he can only play 50% of the season?

I'd keep Bidwell as left sided centre half, if we don't get Clarke-Salter long term.

Would happily take Maatsen back, or McCallum and have Shipley as the back up LWB. From all accounts we could lose Rose on a free, and Fadz is only good for 1 more year max, so centre back is a key position to look at in the summer.
We are keeping Bidwell we have given him a 6 year contract 25k a week he’s going nowhere

At this moment in time he's made as many appearances as Dabo and Rose have this season. I'm pretty sure we'd say we'd like to keep both of those going forwards wouldn't we?

He was England U21 captain so the pedigree is definitely there and bar the horror show at Luton he's been solid for us this season imo. He's never getting into the Chelsea team. He'll walk into ours every week.

He can still cross a LCB gets forward as he’s shown. He’s far too slow to be a LWB. As for height, he’s not playing in the middle there’s been shorter world class CBs it’s not a blocker with the right players with him.

If he’s going to be a LWB exclusively it’ll only be as backup.
He played lwb for a team that got to the play offs twice, he isn't too slow

Chelsea also have the Brazilian LWB Kennedy out on loan. He will be miles ahead of Maatsen in the pecking order at Chelsea.

They recalled him in January & he's only made the bench 3 times in the PL since.
As you say Maatsen will be behind even him (hardly a slight on the kid though tbf).

So there’s this thing called ageing…

Also Swansea play a very different game to us. Fine if you think he’s a better LWB than a LCB, but I doubt anyone who has watched us would agree.
He’s only 29, not exactly an old man

You decided Moore was an awful keeper before he even played. Hardly the person to give informed opinions.

unless he learns how to defend, stops going to seedy boozers and is willing to take a 20 grand a week pay drop, yeah sign him up.

He was outstanding this season and has probably been MOTM more than any other player. I’d love to sign him again but I can’t see it. Chelsea rarely send a player out on loan for more than a season to the same club and he probably needs to challenge himself at a higher level.

Maatsen is a real prospect the Chelsea issue is far from resolved so what happens with their reserve players and there’s a lot of those is far from clear. We might get him for another twelve months but I suspect Bidwell was signed with Maatsen going back to Chelsea in mind.

Agree with the first part, but the second bit has been said a few times on this thread and baffles me a bit. He's not good enough for the Prem (I think we'd all agree that) so where does he go?
We're probably in the strongest 2nd league in the world in terms of teams / support /attendance. And as a side, we're now looking like a top 10 finish is well within our reach ahead of teams like Swansea / Stoke / Blackpool / Cardiff who have all been Premier League teams more recently than us.

I guess what I'm saying is, where else is a higher level than us at this moment in time? Could he get into one of the current playoff sides? Possibly. But then we "could" be one of those play off sides if we kick on this weekend after a great result at Fulham.

Sky Blue tinted specs are well and truly being worn, but I don't think he could go elsewhere and not have a tougher / harder test, imo.

Probably to the Dutch league, if you have a look back through the Chelsea youngsters they regularly get sent to the Eredivisie.

He won't be back here next season.

Yep possibly, but unless he's going to the likes of Ajax / PSV / Feyenoord he isn't going to a better side / division. And whilst they've used the Eredivisie to blood players in previous years they currently have none of their players on loan in the division with the bulk of those that are out on loan being in the Championship.

I read somewhere Chelsea have over 30 players out on loan then add their first team squad and players who aren’t on loan that’s a hell of a lot. I would think unless Maatsen gets in the first team pool which I doubt very much he’d be better another twelve months here fits into our way of playing, regular first team football and at a good level, better the devil you know even in the cut-throat world of football.
