Interesting, sounds like he's automatically triggered an extension by starting 50% of league games but he's not overly happy with the terms & wants to negotiate... Not sure how much luck he'll have with that, he agreed the clause.

He explained: “I have got a new contract but I want to negotiate a new contract because I think I deserve to be like everyone else. Fair enough I may be 35 but I feel like I deserve to negotiate a contract, if you know what I mean, because when the club was struggling I didn’t take a pay cut, so I only want what everyone else has.

“Everyone else has been rewarded with contracts so it would be nice for me to as well. I feel like I deserve to and if they feel like I don’t, I don’t know. I will just see how it stands.”

I think one of ITK posters said that this was the case re automatically triggered.

He signed an extension last year from his original L1 deal. Wonder if he’s on significantly less than players like Dabo who have signed a full three year deal since promotion.

So he may not be here next season then...

I would I’m sure had a promotion pay rise in the contract but sees others like Jamie Allen getting enhanced extensions rather than get a contractual extension pay rise.

I had heard the percentage was significant and lead to Liam Kelly being a top earner last season.

What a strange interview for the club's official site to publish in relation to his new contract.

edit, assume you got that from elsewhere

I hope they offer him improved terms, I get he had an automatic extension on the same terms but he's a much more important player for us than some others (albeit we don't know what his starting position was like).

You do wonder whether he's got other options....

Would another established Championship side take him for a fee? Being brutal I doubt it, maybe a newly promoted team or a L1 side.

It said “I didn’t take a pay cut” surely that’s a typo

That's the comment that caught me by surprise. I really hope that is the CovTel screwing up a quote and not McFadz being overly greedy.

In fact, I'd be prepared to offer McFadz the opportunity to train for his coaching badges on top of his extension. He's obviously a good motivator in the changing room and a great leader on the pitch. And at 35, his playing career isn't going to last many more years.

So with him staying, honestly how do people think we are going to bring in two or three new CB'S. Unless we see Rose sold I just cannot see how we can expect to have several new bodies in that position.

Yep I don't see us having 5 first team CBs, just not financially viable.

4 CBs plus Bidwell (and in extreme emergencies Sheaf/Dabo).

We currently only have three for three positions.

No problem with Bidwell covering LCB and LWB, but we need a first choice LCB and really someone to take over from Fadz who I doubt will last a full season (though I doubted that this year too).

It's safe to say you probably want McFadzean to be the reserve you can rely upon, rather than be expected to play week-in week-out.

He clearly is paid less than others in tbe squad - going to the press isn’t probably the best option

Yeah, I'm struggling with this a bit...
He's been excellent for us & being captain & the leader & organiser certainly deserves reward yet at the same time he agreed the contract knowing the clauses etc. so doesn't really have a leg to stand on 🤷🏼‍♂️

You might not have a leg to stand on, but it doesn't stop you being aggrieved.

Same as any job, really.

I see a replacement for JCS but that is it. I can't see how he is going to go out and get more CB's than we had this season regardless.

I know we need to strengthen there, but if we want stronger CB's then we have to move out some of the ones we have, and is that going to happen? Who knows.

We need at least 2. Ideally I’d replace all 3 in the starting lineup but it won’t happen.
