3-1 win for Sheff United, looking likely they are going to qualify for the playoffs (bastards).

Regardless, it finally removes any mathematical notion that we could still make the playoffs. Even if every team above us lost all their remaining games by 10 goals each, we could still only finish 7th.

But it's been a hell of a season, a true rollercoaster of emotions. And we're looking at a finishing position that we never expected to be in back in August.

Mark, Adi, Dennis and the rest of the back-of-house team deserve any and all plaudits they get. Let's hope we can keep them and the team on the pitch together and improve on it during the off-season to come back and properly challenge next season.

I want Sheff U to go up, as it will be one less team in the Championship with parachute payments, plus they have new owners with money.
Ugh no thanks. Horrid club, horrid fans. I'd like them and Bournemouth to stay down, although unfortunately I don't think that'll happen. Forest will stop one of those things happening but not both.

This thread is actually quite funny if you go to the very start, just shows its hard to predict anything based off pre season or even very early into the season. Don't have to look further than the first handful of comments to see things like 'West Brom will be up there' or 'Huddersfield look like favourites to go down'.

I’ll hold me hands up to thinking that Forest were overhyped before the season.

Hughton to Cooper is an exponential upgrade though.

Oh massively. I knew Hughton was holding Forest back, he's awful, but didn't realise he was holding them back that much.

I agree re: Sheff Utd in terms of liking them; however, if Forest don't go up, next season they will be without Spence and Johnson (possibly Davies too). They are likely to be weaker than this season as a result. Sheff Utd next season would still have parachute payments plus new owners with £££s to spend. If we were to make a challenge next season, i want the strongest potential teams out of the way.

Nothing we can do about Norwich, Watford and Burnley, Leeds or Everton , the parachute payments are utterly unfair and should be abolished
Just there to protect the haves, fuck the have nots
It's a minor miracle that Luton , Huddersfield and ourselves are anywhere near getting out of this 'rigged' division

Huddersfield have parachute payments this season.

Huddersfield have parachute payments this season.

Just looked relegated in 2019 (thought it was longer ago!) So this is their final year in receipt of them - if they don't go up. O'Brien and others will likely be off. Though they seem to have residual 'PL players in waiting' like Bournemouth.

Luton - long ball big striker - team full of shithousery - not pretty to watch

I’m undecided if I want Luton to go up. I would be happy to see them finish bottom of the PL, but then when they come down they would have parachute payments.

When did that change? It used to be an extension on the solidarity payments

Pretty sure it's always been that way. Made the news again in 2020 as greedy Premier League refused a request to give Fulham's share to the EFL despite clubs being close to going to wall.

(Sorry that it's a Daily Mail link):

43 goals for mitrovic , I fail to see how he couldn't score a fair few in the Premier league at the right club
