Well what you're saying is all well and good, but for large parts of last season we were operating with two 18 year olds and one 17 year old in the starting line up. Are they as physically fit as a 25 year old senior pro, absolutely not. This wasn't Thorn's fault, it was through having no investment whatsoever, apart from from signing two goalkeepers. We lost games from winning positions because the players didn't believe they would win, we were a poor side in that division, favourites for relegation with the bookies before a ball was kicked. You lose a few games, you develop a losing mentality, and that's what happened. When we were winning, the players were nervous. You could argue Thorn has to manage that and try to give the players more belief, but I would suggest that most managers would have struggled.
I don't know if Thorn would've been any good this year, but I certainly don't believe he had a fair crack at it, so why didn't something happen before pre-season.

I agree that the odds were against us surviving last season, its just so frustrating to see the early signs this season that nothing has changed, despite (on paper) us having a more experienced squad this season.

I don't think it is a weak argument. The same problems appeared again and again and continued to do so even without a team full of youngsters.

My point is "if" Thorn was so bad why was he allowed the summer to bring in his players , why not get a new man to get his players .Otherwise it is a case of same old, same old

There were obviously financial constraints but that doesn't mean you can't judge the manager at all. You can give him some leeway, which I did, but there comes a point where the same mistakes being repeated consistently has to be noticed.

As for your other point, I think they wanted to make sure they were absolutely 100% before pulling the trigger. The first three games have shown exactly the same traits as before. I'm glad they've been decisive, rather than dither as we potentially slip further away from the top 6.

Yes they have been decisive but the new man comes in with anothers players ,AGAIN ! We have done it all to often then the new man gets slated

There are plenty of examples of managers who've come in and done well with another manager's set of players. We'll just have to hope that's what happens to us.

I think Thorn going is definitely the right decision, as most know here imo thought he should have had enough to keep us in the championship last year all be it in lower half of table. As he did not think he should have been sacked at the end of the season.

To give him pre-season and then sack him after three games is a little strange.....even I was prepared to give him ten!

However as I have used on countless times Bryan Gunn was sacked by Norwich very early in league 1 maybe even after just ine game......they got in Lambert and did not work out too badly for them!

Need to make a good choice but think whoever comes in now will get a better response than unfortunately Thorn would manage going forward!

Cos I can't see it and it seems clearly apparent that things have been going on behind the scenes at the club with Thorn. Not going to go into all the rumours but it sounds like something wasn't right.

The most worrying rumour for me is about training being cancelled etc. This would fit in with our players hardly ever looking fit. Not saying I believe the rumour, just that if it was true it would explain an awful lot.

And has anyone not thought that the only reason AT wasn't sacked before was because we couldn't afford it and now maybe we can? More rumours circulating about the owners about half shares in the stadium.

I didn't want him to go just yet, but there were really 2 choices here. Back him long term or act early. If there were off field issues then that changes everything and of course club right to sack him.

Then of course there are the 'I told you so' brigade. They didn't know any of this either and in a way got lucky. Will a change in manager work out better? Who knows??

Personally though, I really think our fortunes will change for the better. I do think a half-decent manager will be able to get this team into the top 6.

I don't think anyone has said they're remotely upset by other fans taking the piss, it just highlights the fact this is not a positive move for the club. 12 managers in 12 years does give other fans reason to have a laugh. As for the title to the thread, I think Martin has noticed that several fans have disliked Thorn for a while and there is unquestionably an 'I told you so' playground mentality being shown by a few people.
