long way home

MR knows already the type of player he needs in and in the areas that will improve the squad. The in door is going to be determined by the exit door for the most part. But If he keeps 3 of the big 4 and adds 3 of higher quality, I'm sure he will take it.

Any name mentioned that is better than our best player, will be welcomed with open arms for sure. However MR has been burnt before and I don't think he will be begging anyone to come, if they show they can buy into the culture being built and fit into the group MR will act. I don't think he will deal well with big time Charlie's happily and I don't see a man in MR that has much sentiment in his decision making. Players ability is all good, but you can't have this group effected by one bad apple, the management has created a team spirit that is so important to result on the pitch. This group fight together and have shown more spirit than most fans have every seen players show in a Cov shirt, that can take you far, add ability across the field and it takes you beyond expectation.

I truly believe we have moved on and up and the names we looked at and even spoke to last summer today in my opinion would not improve our current squad. We will be looking at a different level of player, as a set championship club that play good football, with a growing reputation as a club that can compete at the top of this league on and off the pitch. We have to be realistic but improvements have been made in every aspect of our club, which i hope continues. We now are expecting to challenge, not shocked by challenging. Exciting times a head all the right noises being made let's see where it goes and who is with us to enjoy it.

It’s not happened for him at Bournemouth and I believe Norwich want shot of him. Maybe a swap deal and cash if they wanted one of ours?
Do Norwich still owe us money for McCallum ? or even Maddison if he goes from Leicester for a big fee think we’d get a kick back from that.

Another enigmatic remark from MR:

Asked if he sought assurances from the club about what he’d have to work with this summer before he signed his new deal, he said: “I know exactly. I have got a clear picture of what it is. I know the board are trying as much as they can to try to improve the situation, which I am grateful for. Whether that happens or not, they’re trying and that’s all you can ask for.

In what ways are they trying?

Seeking new investment maybe?

Pretty sure he's going to be backed well this summer. I'm not talking fucking millions but the owners know we're closer than we've ever been to the promised land, and we've got the right bloke to do it

Maybe the case, and you're probably not far wrong but I dont think it was. Not with the cash and wages others threw about, we could have had a pop and still ended up where we are now but 5 million worse off
We didn’t need to spend £5m in January. 1or 2 more loans could have made the difference.

It needs to be millions ; the number of millions, be it wages, or fees, will be the interesting part.
We could still have a brilliant summer and season, but still easily miss out.

We were one of almost a dozen or so clubs realistically chasing the last 2 spots.
The likes of Middlesbrough, Stoke & West Brom all threw big money at in January & only 'Boro have a chance to scrape the last spot. There's no guarantees.
They invested but they didn’t bet the farm. That’s all we needed to do ….

Didnt Forest spend money?

You just said we didn't need to spend £5m, most of those spent significantly more than that on transfer fees alone plus some hefty wages too.

What about Tavares? Sorry to keep badgering just intrigued

Fuck Tavares man… he’s about 8 stone wet through. I don’t get what the huge obsession is… he’s a good few years older than most players in the U23’s hence why he’s scoring a few.

He’s probably alright but he’s simply just the new Ponticelli and look how he’s doing at Wrexham… not banging them in

He needs to go out on loan and prove himself in a real league and then I’ll believe the hype

A bit harsh there mate dont you think, you can forgive people for the hype though he scored on his debut and has looked good on his cameos, and smashed em in for the 23’s he is under 23 so he is the same age group as all the players there. If Robins thought that him being older than other players was a bad thing he wouldnt have even signed him let alone given him chances

we got him from Rochdale..................... that league is tough enough, and he survived it so he should be hardened to getting clattered

Tavares is a work in progress, not sure yet how exactly he’d fit into our first eleven I wouldn’t loan him out though.

What part of what I said is harsh? That I think we should stop thinking this skinny young striker is going to be the saving grace of Coventry City cause he’s scored goals in the U23’s?

David Bremang was also banging then in for the U23’s a season or so ago and people were calling for him to get his chance… who we released! He went to Barnsley and wasn’t played there either and is currently on loan at bloody Guiseley in the National League North who are 22nd in the league and he’s played 3 games and scored no goals

Just cause you score goals in U23’s means nothing… just like every predecessor before them… Ponticelli and Bremang are examples of that

As an impact sub

If Baka played 26 games as an impact sub and scored 2 goals you’d be losing your hair. Isn’t that also why everyone is complaining about Waghorn also not scoring? Understand there’s an age difference but if you are striker and you are being brought on… especially when you wanna prove a point and make a mark on your career you should be scoring goals

Don't think we have seen enough of him to write him off being in and around the first team will improve him and I'm sure he will be on a plan to bulk up a bit

In Callum Wilson’s early years he posted 2 goals in 20 appearances in the Conference. He ended up with England caps. Just because someone’s not burst onto the scene at 17-18 it doesn’t mean they’ll forever be shite.

As it happens, I’m 50:50 on Tavares. I’d give him next season as 4th choice striker to start showing he’s progressing and if he’s not there or thereabouts by the end of the season then that’d be the end of the road.

Baka played 12 games last season and scored 0 off the bench, Tavares 6 games and 1 goal off the bench…..
