Be fantastic if an MP was honest and just conceded that the rules by this point were confusing and illogical rather than just doubling down on them being broken, pre empt the public inquiry
The main thrust of them weren’t confusing at all. Certainly illogical but it was mostly clear what was and what wasn’t ok

People also need to remember that the Downing Street parties when we were in full lockdown and the rules couldn’t be clearer. In contrast beergate happened during the tier system period and we were in the second most lenient tier at that time.

The desperation, mental gymnastics, and backtracking from these clowns today is absolutely incredible :ROFLMAO:

I bet this guy was pleased he commented he has been hammered on Twitter for his history what an idiot.

Hardly surprising when he explicitly mentions the possibility however, of course some will lump some cash on.

There’s no real possibility the Durham police have not issued retrospective FPN’s and are hardly likely to with this one off given the grandiose statement from Starmer

He of course hasn’t said he’d quit if he was found to break the law just something he knows he won’t get

Blimey even Channel 4 news less than complimentary about today’s stunt

As they point out this stunt Blair pulled to get out of a situation

The excuses coming out already.

- Durham can't give him a FPN now because he's given them an ultimatum.
- it's a different police force so there's no consistency
- this police force don't give out retrospective FPNS
- He will get off on a technicality like Cummings...he called for Cummings to resign (cummings was never really investigated, he wasn't even interviewed so completely different)

Everyone seems to forget not only has Johnson been fined, 10 Downing Street is the most fined place in the country, the sue Grey report sat it was systemic, and he broke the ministerial code by continually lying about it.

Fwiw - the met have set a precedent of issuing retrospective FPNs to the highest office in the land. If Starmer and Rayner have broke the rules, they will be fined.

Johnson won't go, even if Starmer and Rayner get a FPN and resign, which in the long run will do more harm than good for the Tories, it would be a political football to be kicked and kicked and kicked.

The met admitted they didn’t as planned interview Blair under caution as he threatened to quit if the would - that’s the Met not Durham police who didn’t issue a FPN over Bernard Castle

He’d have had to quit anyway he’s made such an issue over it - he said even the investigation was a resigning matter - until he got investigated

Its a completely different political landscape, and Starmer isn't the prime minister.

He is practicing what he preaches. Its the right thing to do. And it fucks up the Tories strategy of trying to make all politicians look corrupt to cover up their own.

Lol it’s a staged act. It’s identical to the Blair strategy that directly influenced a far more serious matter

It’s a shameful act of politicking. He’d have had to resign anyway as he’d blathered on about it for weeks on end

He’s a hypocrite, has let’s be polite a very selective memory and other than from his fan club it’s not exactly been as well received as he hoped. It’s also took him 3 days of trying to worm his way out of the situation before knowing he had to say what he’s been avoiding for 72 hours

But yeah it’s real principal politics

Will you resign if you get a FPN?

Will you resign if you get a FPN?

Will you resign if you get a FPN?

Will you resign if you get a FPN?

All weekend.

What’s that? You will.

Err… err… err that wasn’t the answer we wanted.

I’d say this has well and truly backfired on the majority of Boris’ press.

We could have a new PM and new Labour leader by the end of the year. In my mind, that's not much of a bad idea.

Just watching the documentary about John Stonehouse. It’s reminding me of someone but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Complicated private life including a wife and a mistress who just happened to work for him.

Opportunist.

A fan of fantasy.

Overriding desire to be noticed publicly.

Dodgy Russian mates.

Tried to style it out.

Seems the "non politically motivated" student who filmed Kier Starmer having dinner is in fact Ivo Delingpole the son of right wing jornalist and uni pal of the PM James.

tut tut

It's all unravelling

The tories are desperate, saw the smear about starmers office organising a Christmas party when Johnson was going to save Christmas to only cancel it before it evening happening when restrictions were ramped up.

- Arrange party
- Covid Restrictions increased
- Cancel party to comply with restrictions..

Party never happened.

I mean, how is that news?

I see Laurence Fox is implicated too. Made the video public 9 months earlier before Boris and his client press started banding it about in January. Desperate measures which begs the question. How much worse is this going to get for Boris. The desperation for false equivalence between Starmer and Boris is flabbergasting but when trivialising the law failed to take hold with the general public I guess they got desperate.
