How anyone can say that we should get rid of a manager as he had no experience and in the end was proved to be not good enough once he was given a chance can then say we should try another inexperienced manager is beyond me.

But people on here said he was....

No one said he was in the casino. The rumour was he was in the Club Lounges after the match doing a Q and A. If he says he wasn't in the casino...that is probably true. He didn't deny saying he'd told people he' was gonna sack Thorn.

"we need a winner" it cant be shaw then he played 317 times for coventry!!! :D ,....... weve tried experience managers with promotions on their CV (dowie, adams, reid ,boothroyd) and weve tried rookies like (butcher, mcallister, nilsson, strachan, thorn) personally id like to see a young hungry manager like karl robinson, paul tisdale, uwe rosler, dean holdsworth :thinking about:

How do you come to that conclusion?

I am just saying it is wrong to dismiss anyone when we have no idea how they would do.

Funny isn't it that when we buy a player and people on criticise the signing posters are all over them like a rash and saying how can you judge before he has even kicked a ball for us.

Well isn't this the same? Why is it different for a manager where we have no idea how he will do?

I have no idea about Shaw or Carsley and no opinion on them at all. I have no idea how they would do and nor do any of us.

Noticed Torch said "No" immediately when Shaw was mentioned though.

Tut tut.

What happened to giving anyone a chance? ;)

Nowhere have I said I would want Shaw as manager.

Because he might be great, but he might not. If the wrong man is put in charge the it will put us back even further. It's not worth the risk for me, which is why i believe we need experience.

Well I agree with that.

Sillett and Curtis though were fantastic for us so I simply won't rule anyone out.

We can't F*ck about here Otis. We have a squad good enough for automatic promotion - but we've not had tactics to match. Tactical expertise tends to come with years of experience.

Richard Shaw may be awful, may be good - but we can't take that risk. We need someone proven and safe. Ideally someone who knows League 1 and what we'll come up against.

Maybe we should of kept our better defenders instead of flogging them for a quick buck or saving a few quid in wages.

Keogh who was in the last year in his contract and we got 1m for him! That was a good deal, because he weren't going to sign a new contract come April, especially if we didn't get promoted.

Bigi, when a big club comes knocking, he was going to go, you take them opportunities in life!

Cranie, who rejected our contract offer!? Wood is better than him anyway, I felt he was better even the 'honeymoon' period (as some call it) and over the season, you felt he lacked physicality...

The fact is the last managers to do any good for this club were George and John. WGS did OK till we sold Keane and MacCalaster, who else has impressed over the last 30 years. You have to discount Black, as we was not here long enough, Neilsen did OK dito Black. Otherwise all the others have failleds. Its going to tough, no one manager can guarantee success, you need a bit of luck along the way, which we has a club never seem to have.

Lesley Nielsen? That would explain a few things.

My point exactly. We can't afford the risk of giving someone a go to see if they are good enough. We need an experienced man to get us up the league.

any of them four would do for me, I'd like a new young up and coming manager. Tisdale or Robinson and I would be very optimistic.

How on earth am I on the fence? :thinking about::thinking about:

I haven't suggested any manager at all because I have no idea what sort of budget has been set for the position by the board.

If I knew what budget had been set aside then I would suggest managers, but if we can only do it on the cheap then our options are very much narrowed and Carsley and Shaw will be both very much be in the frame.

Not sitting on the fence, just not in posession of enough facts to make a judgement.

There's no guarantee an 'experienced' manager would do a great job here, certainly no more so than shaw or carsley. I agree we can't fuck about but I don't see any harm
In seeing how the next 2-3 matches go to see how the players react.

There's been plenty of inexperienced mangers who have come in and done a great job (and also many that have done shite). We only have to look at the Eric black and Peter Reid scenario (or terry butcher as the opposite).

There's also no reason why an inexperienced manager can't bring in an experienced coach or assistant.

No we haven't,

Without enough goals in the team I agree,We have Callum Ball instead of James Collins and a misfiring Cody,Combine that with Two Semi fit midfielders Due to lack of pre-season ,two missing right-backs and its easy to comprehend why we've lost leads in these games.

You mean how Roland had Jim Smith?

Out of interest how many goals has Collins scored for Swindon? Not kept an eye on him and genuinely don't know.

Otis, you have been banging on for ages that we should get rid of AT and bring in a manager that can come in and sort out our team. Then when AT is gone you say that Shaw shouldn't be overlooked.

I have nothing against Shaw, but we need to hit the ground running, not hope the next person to take over is inexperienced but could do a good job. We need a manager that should do a good job, not could do a good job.

How many people on here have said they are more tactically aware than AT? If it is so easy we should find one of these that will work for free. If it is so easy why not take on another manager without experience? We have just lost a manager that was good at finding good players, but not good at tactics. So he knew about football, just not about what should be done during a game. So should we have a manager that we know even less about with knowledge of the game?

But Torch, you said on another post earlier in this thread something like a 'younger League manager for you', or words to that affect. Have I misread something or not got your joke?!

I want an experienced manager.

Just don't think we should dismiss anything or anyone.

We have gone for managers who have had success elsewhere and they have flopped here. We have gone for ex-players and they have flopped too. Where the answer lies fook knows.

Just wrong to dismiss people out of hand when we have no idea whether they will be any good or not. What's to say the club didn't bring Shaw in with a view to him being AT's replacement anyway?

The problem I always had with Andy Thorn was that he was very tactically unaware.
