Wasps downward spiral... (12 Viewers)

Pretty pathetic from Turner. Bobby Bridge appears to be your classic client journalist, sad more than anything.

I’m inclined to agree that rather there being some grand company-wide conspiracy to bury the story, the CET simply doesn’t think its readers care enough about Wasps to bother trying to understand a relatively complicated story like this one. Will come back to bite them if this does turn out to be the beginning of the end, of course.

If thats the case from the CET then they may as well give up and anyone working there has no right to call themselves a journalist.

it cares enough about wasps to have a section on the club - it doesn’t even have a rugby section so Coventry crfc hardly get mentioned and devoted a lot of time to the ccfc departures and strife with the council

It's very lazy to just say "the telegraph don't think it's reader's care".

I'd say more care in the city if the Ricoh goes tit's up as opposed to the shitty PR pieces they copy and paste for Wasps.

Besides, I'd guess at least 50% off the crap they publish now isn't even from stuff going on in Coventry.

It's readers don't care? They've got better things to write about? From the newspaper that prints stories like '5 things to buy off Wish this weekend'.

David conn has written numerous articles about Sisu and yet he also is very silent on what potentially could be a big scandal looming

Why don't they run a little story and see if their readers care instead of making the decision for them

Because as I say, they can’t be bothered to try and understand the story themselves, and the lack of interest around Wasps doesn’t offer them enough of an incentive to start. It’s undeniably lazy and will make them look stupid if it snowballs into something bigger. The only journalist covering Wasps full-time is some kid whose entire meagre livelihood apparently depends on getting people to Wasps games.

The CET, like most local newspapers, is a hollowed out shell which mostly has to do clickbait online shit to satisfy the corporate masters, and handout stories (like Wasps giveaways or the bus lane story posted above) to substitute for the actual reporting they can barely afford to do. It’s a sad state of affairs all round.

It’s tragic - I bet most of the clicks for that story today will come from this forum.

If Bobby Bridge decides to make a big deal out of this bond repayment stuff, he not only has to find a copy of Finance For Dummies and spend a couple of days reading it, he also has to start undermining the solvency of the one company that keeps him in a job. His bosses don’t care because no-one reads his stories anyway, and they can probably do without the angry phone call from Wasps PR later this afternoon. What do you think he’ll decide to do?

It'll just publish stuff that the Wasps press officer (if they still have one) send out, it's not really proactive as such.

Isn’t that pretty much what everyone is saying?

Do you think he’ll get more work or less work with them in future if his primary beat disappears?

Isn’t that pretty much what everyone is saying?

Yeah, I’m referring more to the people who claim something explicitly “dodgy” is going on. I think it’s more shoddy and craven than outright corrupt.

I think he's likely to get more work if he proves he can be an actual journalist rather than reposting press releases.

Play the long game, try and make something of yourself.

Fair. Simplest explanation and all that.

I suppose it’s embarrassing as much as anything and that applies to the readers as well who decided they were fans overnight but have now given up going to games.

Genuine question, what would Coventry Telegraph have to lose by reporting negatively on Wasps?
Do they get free advertising or something during Wasps matches?

There's been a few changes in the twilight hours.

ARENA COVENTRY LIMITED
Company number 04440684

01 Jun 2022 Compulsory strike-off action has been discontinued
This document is being processed and will be available in 10 days.

-----

IEC EXPERIENCE LIMITED
Company number 08039699

However, this one is currently still motoring away to oblivion.

ARENA COVENTRY (2006) LIMITED
Company number 05675263

31 May 2022 First Gazette notice for compulsory strike-off

It is all very strange.

I assume the accounts will be filed.

It does suggest restructuring and the loan being taken through a different company in the group

I think you are going to be disappointed

I think a very good argument can be made that this is the start of the end if the strike-off action against ARENA COVENTRY (2006) LIMITED isn't discontinued.

I doubt they do, but they’re committed to covering the team now (the sponsorship money clearly helped with this decision), so they have to print something, and it may as well be spoonfed puff pieces that don’t require any significant work on their part. Not going to win any Pulitzers any time soon, but it’ll keep the lights on.

Doesn't take much to write an article about late accounts does it? They seem fine writing them when it's CCFC or SISU?

As I said earlier - there is only one Wasps reporter and I honestly think it’s beyond his abilities. Even if I’m wrong, it’s not a story he wants to write, nor one his (tiny) audience wants to read.

He’s not a wasps reporter as such and the story is more a business political story so it would be someone else’s domain

Gilbert wasn’t a ccfc reporter
