sacking AT is a terrible decision (10 Viewers)

Just got in after a weekend away (no smartphone) and seen the news - shocking, but not as shocking as the lack of any real defence of AT or criticism of this sacking.

I went to Daggers, Yeovil and Sheff Utd and I did feel we were makign the same mistakes as last season, but 3 games is absolutely no time to make a decision on our progress in a new league, with a new squad.

What if our next manager doesn't win his first 3 games - sack him too???

I hated the amount of talk about him on here and to be honest I'd grown so weary of it all and do think it needs freshening up. So I can't criticise the decision.

I find the timing strange, I will admit, but if the rumours of unrest behind the scenes are true, then maybe it was a decision that had to be made.

The thing is that there were recurring problems in those three league games. We still couldn't hold onto a lead, which effectively sealed our fate last season. Is it fair to make a judgement on those three games alone? I don't think so. Which is why I have to believe there was something else going on that we've not been told about.

The way I see it, he was sacked after 60 games not 3. If he had been successful last season does anyone honestly think he'd have only been given 3 games this season? You have to see it in context.

I think people fall into 2 general camps. We all agree sisu didn't help last season.

Camp 1: Sisu are the reason we went down and Thorn was not to blame

Camp 2: Another manager could have done better with what we had, Thorn was to blame.

If that's the case, then why not get rid of AT in the summer - why let him stay and re-build the side, only to give him 3 games into the new season? This season has been a fresh start, and after one dodgy result the manager is booted out - I fear for us this season.

I can't answer that, and like I said it is strange timing. But after going to the first three league games we didn't look good, and the same mistakes as last season were being made. I'm glad this decision has been made now before it's too late. If we had have given him 10 games and it hadn't worked that would pretty much be a season wasted.

I for one applaud the decision makers here.

Why? Because they decided he weren't the man, without 'pussyfooting' (yes I nicked off Boris, he's still a wanker though) and letting the situation get worse and acted accordingly.

I'm not saying this is good or bad as I'm reserving my judgement for the new gaffer.

Being constrained doesn't absolve from all blame.
Clearly even Fisher himself doesn't think he did a good enough job, even under these constraints.

The debate continues. Thorn clearly has something. Despite the fact he has the worst record in 100 years (and no one knows the "context" of managing the club when David Lloyd George was prime minister) he still has supporters.

Time will tell. We shall follow Andy Thorns future career in football management. Then we can truly judge him. Deep down I think we all know the likely outcome, unless of course you are a publicity seeking radio host or one of his band of devoted followers who always ignore the facts and replace them with sentiment and emotion.

CCFC's performance last year was 100% down to Thorn. That is completely distinct from expectations. We might expect a school team to get thrashed in 46 games, but how they perform in each of those games is attributable to the management.

If those three games follow a pattern that lasted an entire season beforehand sure. Unlikely to be the case with the new man.

And yes Thorn was somewhat restricted, and that wasn't fair, but life isn't and i think we still had enough to survive. He and the senior players bottled it!!

The bigger picture is that he led us to 13 victories in 60 games and about 4 of them were during his honeymoon period the season before last.

insane".

We cannot hold on to a lead!!

Sorry, maybe performance was the wrong word. I was referring to the club's relegation generally, not the play on the pitch specifically (though, yes, that does play a part in the larger picture as I have said).

I'm with you CJparker. Thought it was just me for a while after reading all the happy fans after his sacking, but I'd have stuck with him. It's his set of players, he tries to play decent football, and who are we realistically gonna get that's any better? And we should've at least kept him on as chief scout. Seems almost EVERYONE on here wanted him out, yet not heard anyone shouting Thorn out at the games :thinking about:

SISU sacked AT because the fans had turned against him, simple as that.
A new cycle will begin now and will end the same way unless something of substance changes: money is spent (unlikely) or the people of Coventry decide to support the team in numbers, regardless of performances, results etc (even more unlikely).
So we are stuck in another circuit in the downward spiral. The new manager cannot do miracles with the negativity of the owners, the hanger-on gossipy corporate backstabbers in the posh seats and the fan base that is so quick to boo and infight.
