first and for most for a team to succeed you need a base of a great team spirit for a start
Going back a few years one of our most famous players possibly first name on the team sheet at the time had virtually f/a to do with his team mates off the pitch only football/club related things, still in the game at high level.

Who is that then?

Probably not the one Slowpoke is thinking of but I remember that Paul Telfer had a bit of a reputation for being a solitary figure and uninterested in anything or anyone except golf. May have been rumours about the isolation but the focus on golf was right. Even Strachan admitted it.

Cardiff City FC can confirm that a retained players list has been submitted to the EFL.

Eight members of the First Team squad will depart Cardiff City Stadium this summer. Leandro Bacuna, Ciaron Brown, Aden Flint, Josh Murphy, Marlon Pack, Alex Smithies, Isaac Vassell and Will Vaulks will leave the Club at the conclusion of their agreements on June 30th, 2022.

Big ones for me we need to shift wage wise, even on loan are

Kane
Waghorn
Walker
Kelly

Decent wedge between them lot even if we still end up paying 50% of their wage

Admittedly, I've liked Kane when I've seen him. He may not be as pacy as Dabz but he's been in the right place on many occasions when we've needed someone at the back. We knew he had an ego (we were told about it by QPR fans) but we took the plunge anyway and I thought he did very well. But injuries and Dabz playing incredibly hasn't given him the game time he probably thought he deserved.

Has anyone got figures on how much time Dabz has been injured in the last couple of seasons ? Seems to be a regular thing so we certainly need another RWB (or two).

Wouldnt say no to Pack or Vaulks as midfield cover if the talk of Kelly wanting to leave for games is true

Yeah but he obviously had something on Strachan as that must be the reason why he played so much as it certainly wasn't due to his footballing ability (and why he followed him to Celtic and Southampton)

Wouldn't be overly fussy if we went in for Flint. He's a pretty decent replacement for McFadz.

Vaulks would be nice but it seems Sheff Weds are after him and have started talks.

Huge amount in fees gone out on most of those players. Murphy £11m, Bacuna £3m and £3m for Smithies.

When you see these retained lists from Championship clubs it again highlights how much dross there is in the league and how much horrendous money has been spent by some of the other clubs. Genuinely haven't seen one player I'd want us to be in for.

I would definitely say no to those. Got a good friend who is a Cardiff fan and he says they aren't good enough. They have both been there a long while and not an upgrade on what we have. Vaulks passing isn't good enough, and Pack doesn't have the energy we need either. So both would be below Allen in the pecking order.

Most of those players are good on past reputation, but on a downward spiral aren't they?

Pack is meant to be going back to Pompey

Still in the game at a high level?

Is Smithies still a good keeper? honestly can't remember seeing much of him the past year, he didn't play much last season.
