League One = 4-4-2 (1 Viewer)

I think you'll find you guys are talking about academia as opposed to intelligence, a common assumption. Top Premiership players have very intelligent football brains, hence why they play at the highest level!

Also, I am wholeheartedly aware of the many different tactics and formations and I demonstrate this in my argument, so to call me ignorant is clearly incorrect. :pimp:

So a player suddenly gets a footballing brain if he goes from Div3 to a higher division? A player that is not as skillful or as quick if say a winger or even not as good as tackling because they don't have a footballing brain?

A lot of top managers never played at the top of the game. Do they not have a footballing brain?

One team from League One then, compared to how many that have gone up playing 4-4-2?

Does that mean we have to like everyone else?

Norwich are proof we don't need to change formation. End of.

Btw, 4-4-2 is dead, e.g. Euros with England, when the diamond playing Italy torn us a new page, so badly, Mr. 4-4-2, ditched his favoured formation for the next game!

Also, Swindon got promoted from L2 with the diamond, more proof it works in the lower leagues...

I think the main point here is that players at this level all have their limitations which make many of the more complicated and intricate formations problematic. Whether it's the physical attributes needed by fullbacks to successully implement a successful diamond formation or the mental attributes needed to adapt shape and keep concentration, I think it's certain to say those qualities aren't all there within our squad. It's all relative and you need to have the right players to implement a system. Looking at our midfields defensive positioning when attacks break down and the amount of times our fullbacks are exposed by a lack of pace or poor positioning, it seems obvious to me that we don't have the players to make the diamond work 100%

To be honest, I don't see it as disrespectful.

With quality intelligent players, 4-4-2 becomes about a billion other tweaked formations with shouts from the touchline!

Wingers push on = 4-2-4
Striker sit in = 4-5-1

etc

I saw about 10-12 games in the season Saints got promoted and nothing they did was revolutionary!

They played 4-4-2, 11 men v 11 men, and because they had more quality in their team they won more often than not. Not because they played a particular style ie; on the deck, or route one. They were just better!!!

I guess I'm saying that you can over complicate things and I think our last manager was probably guilty of that.

But a lot of fans like to convince themselves and others the if only.
If only Thorn had played the 3-5-2,the4-4-2,the 4-3-3,the 4-1-2-1-2,the 1-2-3-2-2,the1-8-1 we would have stayed up
If only Thorn had made his substitutions earlier/later in 65th rather the 75th we wouldn't have got relegated.
If only Thorn had played a more adventurous/cautious formation we could have stayed up.
The idea we got relegated because the players weren't simply good enough is an idea without a scapegoat.
Thorn has been accused of being tactically inept, but so was Coleman,so was Boothroyd,so was Dowie,so was Strachan.
Presently it seems anybody who has ever been to a football match is being recommended by fans for the job.So whoever gets the job will be not a lot of fan's preferred choice, and one thing is a given,as soon as we have a bad run,hit tactical prowess will be called into question by some fans.

Agreed.

On S'hampton, they got promoted playing 4-4-2, they have played 2 games to far, 2 loses. They faired better v Man C than Wigan, why? Because S'hampton were able to defend better, but v Wigan, Aidkens noticed this, when they switched from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2, Wigan started to dominate possession and Saints struggled with that.

The more I look at our squad the more I think 532 should be our plan B. we don't have wingers but we I've very good attacking full backs.
