Frustrating to miss out on another player to a championship club.

Shows we just can't compete with half of this division with what we offer, although I suspect this comes down to style/connection rather than wages. Kompany tries to play like Pep apparently.

Fingers crossed targets 3 & 4 (Telegraph mentioned we're after 2 CB'S) come through.

Just because he is second centre back we have missed out on doesnt mean he was our 2nd choice.

We might have wanted this deal more than JCS?

As we are looking for 2 centre backs we might still be persuing our first choice - who knows?

JCS was almost certainly first choice - if more down to already being here and doing well & known by the coaching staff above anything else.

I doubt Egan-Riley would've been so close if he wasn't next in line.

Kompany isn't pep , and city will play a better brand of football than Burnley.

More successful? Doubtful , but better football , sure

Egan-Riley was wanted in addition to JCS

Trouble is too many thought because he was here it was a done deal? Also too many make a big thing about Viveash and Chelsea connections?

It clearly wasnt enough in JCS case and I dont think money necessarilly was the difference either.

I think location and the fact his old coach from his youth wanted to sign him were very big factors.

Not necessarily - we may have only had the budget for one, but we'll probably never know.

If he's been 'ready to drop' for over a month why did we delay? Maybe we moved the budget away from Egan-Riley when JCS became a possibility again, now we've moved it back and he's gone somewhere else too.

Again, pure speculation and we'll probably never know.

It's done now. I have trust in our recruitment team to find another player to fill the gap.

Egan-Riley is a RCB, we wanted him + JCS/A.N.other LCB.

The delay, as with nearly all of these loan deals, is with the parent club for various reasons - assessing options within their own squads, often tying them down to new deals, assessing potential destination clubs & their scenarios - how often will he play, what style of football, how much wage % are they contributing etc.
It was the same with JCS last season, we'd agreed the deal weeks earlier but he didn't join until season actually began as he featured in Chelsea friendlies etc.

But yes, we'll have plenty of irons in the fire, these things happen all the time just aren't always so well publicised. No need to panic yet.
