I think one has to go unfortunately. We are primarily a selling club and we have not sold for a while
Let's be honest if one goes the quality of the squad takes a step backwards. The owners should repay the wholly unnecessary interest they extracted in 2019 which would pay the rest of one of the big 3's contract.

I have no doubt we are a selling club but other factors surely contribute to the extent that we rely on that being our primary business model? We were a selling club when we were exiled in Northampton and when we had 8000 often disillusioned fans at the Ricoh.
The club are currently riding a feel good wave of fan emotion and have one of the better upward trajectories of all clubs in the football league, this optimism is evidenced by the record number of season tickets sales we have made for 2022/2023. Therefore unless the sale is for extremely good money and it is explicitly and publicly authorarised by Robins allowing him to sign 2 or 3 important players or put towards the stadium, that psychological contract will once again begin to be damaged.
Joy and Tim need to remember how toxic things were recently and if they want to cash in fine, but make it explicitly clear to the fans what the rationale is.
Fans want to trust Boddy when he says that the best way to back the club is buying season tickets in your thousands. But if they then do that as well as buying merchandise at record levels but all roads lead to the same place it is disheartening to say the least.

I really appreciate your insight and I am not having a go at you personally but I just perhaps stupidly hoped with us being so tangibly close last year, putting some of the best in the league to the sword (without that little bit of cutting edge) we would take a calculated gamble this summer and build on some exciting foundations.

"Calculated gambles" are a fools game. The club needs to run self sufficiently before anything else.

There are far too many fans with goldfish memories on here who have seemingly forgotten where spending money we don't have got us.

I'll be gutted to see a key player leave but that is the reality of where we stand... But give me striving in the Championship with stable foundations than gambling away our future with the risk of landing back in league 2

I have a feeling if we can ride out the post COVID finances and still have a competitive squad we will be miles ahead of loads of teams that are overreaching themselves financially.

SBB said other signing this week is from a newly promoted side, we’ve been linked before so I don’t think who else it would be
Can’t see us signing 2 young left centre backs on loan who have never played at this level. Forest and City would want some game time assurances

Nixon reporting Burnley have moved on from O’Hare, that’s now him and Hamer who clubs don’t think are worth the money. Which leaves Gyokeres if we need to sell someone as skybluebeliever has said
That doesn’t make any sense, according to some on here he’s not even our best striker.

You seem to assume a 'calculated gamble' is a reckless move? Calculating/strategic gambles are ones that could pay large dividends. In the scenarios I describe either we go up (perhaps not probable) or ohare for example doubles his goals return early and therefore commands a higher free in January. We could just take the money, whatever that looks like now, but that could be short sighted.

If it’s gambling away our future to hold on to the threadbare squad we’ve got then we’re in the wrong business.

Gambling money we didn't have got us relegated from the PL.

Not replacing departing players got us relegated to L1.

Nobody is asking for us to gamble the future but for us to be able to reinvest some of the money we generate ourselves back into the team.

Here we go, over egging the pudding much?

The squad is fine, add a few loans for a little more depth and we have a better squad than plenty of teams in this league. Do you seriously not remember the dross we had only a few years ago?

Stop being so dramatic.

Incredible this has even received likes to be honest.

No one is asking the club to put itself in financial jeopardy by spending hand over fist, they're simply asking for any outgoing player to be adequately replaced. Not for the recruitment department to be forced into attempting at performing minor miracles by identifying a suitable replacement with a small fraction of the fee that was received - or as has been inferred nothing more than the equivalent in wages from the outgoing player.

It's laughable how fans think the two are synonymous.

I suppose that depends on who we sell and how much we get. I'd like to think that if we got, say 8 million for Hamer, then perhaps 3 or 4 of that would be made available. Wishful thinking?
It shouldn't be wishful thinking, but under this ownership, probably.

Is it dramatic? We have little Championship standard depth beyond the first team squad, except up front. We also genuinely don't have the finances to go beyond loans and that comment some people also found amusing.

Am I missing something?

How exactly did gambling money we don’t have get us relegated?

Yeah but the owners demonstrably have done that in the last 4-5 years. Every time we have sold a player someone new has come in and aost always been an upgrade. We just have a situation where there hasn't been a sale for a while so we can't go out and re-invest.

I'm 100% convinced the club will replace whoever gets sold, might be on the cheap but I trust the recruitment team to have plans. As long as we get cover and the day to day finances of the club are stable I'm happy.

But we don't make money? We lose it and unfortunately that's the point.

Of course every fan would love it if we could spend 4/5 million of a 10 million sale but it's not a reality when we have lost more than that in past 2/3 years. So people are asking us to gamble with our future as it would just be adding to the debt.

We are not, we are just asking for some form of investment in keeping our best players or at least replacing them with a transfer fee

How are you going to continuously sell if you don’t bring anyone in to be the next Gus

The club will therefore just end up losing money as they’re not getting any in - an important point to add which has been mentioned

A large chunk of those losses are very large interest rates charged by the owners. Remove them and we're in a lot more competitive position.

This current ownership will never fully back the manager and this team

Very sad
Have we not improved every year since MR took over? Have the owners not backed him?
If the backing is so poor why did MR and AV both sign new contracts?
Did MR ask for new training pitches? Have they been provided?

The reality is that our owners are doing what the can within their budgetry constraints, and as we have limited income from a ground we don't own, I think they've done OK in recent times, after previously making some poor decisions.
At least they appear to be learning.

Agreed, all true.
But we are approaching a watershed; will the majority of any big sale be reinvested in the squad or not?
That will tell us all we need to know about our future with these owners.
