I was more on about Scotland to be honest. Which is fine if you’re cool with the British state coming to an end it just surprises me given the boasts of patriotism we’ve had from the right for most of recorded history
This I'll never understand. It's as if because you're left, right etc that you have to align yourself with everything and be unwavering, not allowed to form your own opinion on each individual point. Not a criticism of you or that post btw just a general observation.

Well it’s just admittedly only from personal experience but a high number of people who supported Brexit for ‘British sovereignty’ seem nonplussed about the end of the union. Which is a bit disappointing given I voted No in the 2014 referendum.

Sovereignty is overrated, as I said I'm not bothered but I'd prefer to keep it from an economic perspective of shared costs, but day to day it matters little to me. Northern Ireland on the other hand makes less economic sense, especially post Brexit.

"sovereignty is overrated"

Within our current political system, the ultimate consequence of this statement is that democracy is overrated. So, what would you propose?

Technocracy? Autocracy? Oligarchy? Monarchy? Or an international version of the said governing types - including democracy?

Northern Ireland’s economy is the only part of the UK economy doing well post brexit, not well enough to stop the uk heading into a recession but if the rest of the uk was performing like Northern Ireland we probably wouldn’t be heading into a recession. That’s the benefit of having the best of both worlds as one ex Brexit minister put it. Why we’re not all allowed to have the benefits of the best of both worlds is a mystery.

Penny Mordaunt has got the Boris cult rattled. Lord Frost now trying to make out brexit isn’t safe in her hands.

People who brexit is threatened by: Sunak and Mordaunt. Both of who have had long held opinions on leaving the EU, campaigned to leave the EU and voted leave.

Person brexit isn’t threatened by: Truss. Who had never expressed an opinion to leave the EU, campaigned remain, voted remain and in the last occasion she publicly spoke the truth said the country having voted leave that brexit was going to be a disaster.

The desperation of these people to ensure continuity Boris remains in power.

Sovereignty is overrated,
As a Brexit supporter, there is no way I'd vote for them as it could put the local Labour MP back in power, but I'm sure some will and we'll be stuck with a remain MP in W&L again. I have no choice but to vote Conservative to achieve what I want and that's disappointing.
Pick a lane.

Mordaunt seems to have a Boris style honesty issue. Lied about her position on gender, lied about Turkey and the EU, now been caught lying about her background and what got her into politics.

That's cemented her position as next leader then.

Christ, got to hope Sunak holds off Truss among the members!

Fk me you boring troll dredging througb my old posts to look for an inconsistency, but even then I don't see how leaving one means keeping another. Did I say ever that my vote for Brexit was to remain attached to the union? I've also said above economically it makes sense to stay attached, just that I simply couldn't care less. You really are a boring c**t.

It’s amazing how the Tory candidates act like they’ve not been in power for over the last decade and very much been part of the problems they then go on to criticise.
IDS trying to claim today that the real Tories has only been in power since 2016. Which if you think about it isn’t the defence he thinks it is. It’s been a chaotic disastrous circus since 2016.

I didn't have to dredge through as your opinion on Brexit was well-known and saying soveriegnity is over-rated seemed like a very odd statement to make for a Brexit supporter. Just usually when evidence isn't provided it gets asked for, so I pre-empted it. It took me less than 30 seconds.

I was saying to someone yesterday that my concern was Truss sneaking into the final two with Sunak and then winning. She’s currently 5s…could be worth a dabble…put it towards emigration savings 😂

I’m sure most on here would be happy - comp kid made good and all that - no eton silver spoon or the selected lovely selected school that went private

It's also longer than an election cycle, so not really a defence at all.

Its not though is it. Sturgeons arguments for independence are the same as the brexit argument and yet she wants to join the EU - it’s a cliche pointless phrase

Rishi is promising to ‘rebuild the economy’ ffs!

He’ll be furious when he gets hold of whoever’s been running it for the last few years

To be fair the economy has been fucked by the pandemic for two years and then the war. Everyone’s in a similar boat globally, possibly at slightly different stages. I want to hear ‘how’ he and others would do this though. What’s the grand plan ? Plenty of soundbites from candidates without much meat on the bones yet. He’d probably have a better idea/understanding than most of the others in the mix

Aye. He's best of a bad lot currently for not automatically cutting taxes and services in an ideological frenzy, but that's about it so far.

Nah, she's that dangerous combination of a cocksure idiot and a rampant opportunist, I don't care which school she went to.
The way Labrov made her look an absolute clown should have finished her, but not in today's Tory party.

She shouldn't have been anywhere near government by then anyway..... I mean,Her "pork meats" speech would have been enough to kill her career back in the days when the opposition (and more importantly) Spitting image had teeth.....
