They really shouldn't should they. It says much more about the opposition than it does about them doesn't it
Not even sure it's that anymore , I think when you look at comments on sky news on Facebook , at posts from various people on my socials ... I think it's just people that are the problem

I’m completely apolitical, I don’t care for either of the main parties

this isn’t a high quality field of candidates but Truss seems an especially bad pick to me

These ambulance waiting times are a fucking joke. I know the NHS is understaffed and underfunded but this is a mainly a management issue. Incompetence and negligence defo playing a role....as highlighted by some of the whistleblowers on the news tonight.

To be fair, who does?

It's not about supporting trans rights though. Surely everyone supports trans rights.

It's about trans men "becoming" women and being able to gain access to women's toilets and changing rooms etc.

Why is any of it at the forefront, let alone a talking point, of a leadership campaign when the world, and politics, are so fucked?

Totally bizarre.

That's exactly what she's been going for recently. Badly.

A combination of avoiding answering questions and patting himself on the back. The famous ‘pledges’ are now off the table because of COVID

PM said that trans women are women and trans men are men. That's a very dangerous stance to hold.
Is it? I disagree.

The toilet thing us a non issue in my view. Lots of toilets these days are gender neutral, including in a place I used to work. Has there been many or any cases of people identifying as a man/woman to go jnto a toilet to attack someone? And if so is there any evidence they wouldn't have done so anyway even if they couldn't identify as a woman or man. Oh and by the way it isn't even an offence for a man to go into a women's toilet (I don't recommend it though).

But anyway this is such a trivial matter compared to climate change and the cost of living crisis.

It's the self identifying.

The notion is that a man can identify as a woman. If that is allowed to happen, that then allows men to go into women's changing rooms at swimming baths, in toilets, you could have men in women's prisons and women's refuges etc.

The potential of it is massive.

I don't go on Mumsnet, but my girlfriend does and she says it is an absolutely huge issue and so many have said they will not vote Labour again while they have the stance they have.

I think the Tories have taken the right stance overall. It's just Penny Mordaunt isn't it, who changed the wording. She is backing away now from what she said when she drew up the bill/legislation.

Common sense has to prevail. You simply cannot have some bloke saying they ID as a woman and then let them have access to women's spaces.

One story on Mumsnet is of a rape crisis centre. The counselor/official running the group and talking to women about their rape cases, was a trans. A man identifying as a woman.

The rape victim walked out. I do think to understand the rape of a woman, you obviously have to be a woman. To understand on that personal level.

To be honest, I hadn't thought about it all too much until my girlfriend pointed it out and said of all the concerns of women and the stories out there.

As I say, common sense will surely prevail, but it is a potentially very dangerous stance to have, that of someone self ID'ing and saying they are a woman, while clearly still a man.

It's Labour 's stance that is the problematic one at the moment. Labour and seemingly, Penny Mordaunt.

Having lived in Brighton & Hove for around 14 years of my life, where it’s not uncommon to see trans people in the street and where I’d imagine there’s a higher percentage compared to the rest of the UK, never once did I hear of these issues.
It’s yet another attack on a vulnerable and minority group within society to take people away from the bigger issues in society.
It’s disgraceful and using the forum equivalent of the Daily Mail to justify it is laughable.

Mordaunt says prima facie not dissimilar things to Kier Starmer (ie very unspecific), she's the the one Labour would least want to win i suspect.

But this is quite a new thing isn't it. Times have changed and quite rapidly too. It's such a rapidly moving world this re gender etc.

No-one is saying a man cannot transition into a woman and become a woman. That's not the issue. It's not an anti trans thing. It's the loophole that a man could identify as a woman.

From what I have been told, this is Labour supporting women on Mumsnet. Not Daily Mail reader types. Lifelong Labour supporters

It is most definitely an attempt to distract away from what else is going on and an attack on a vulnerable minority group within society.
I’d not want to be using Mumsnet as a guiding light, personally.

I have never been on there. I am guessing though it covers the whole gamut of opinions and political spectrums.

It's not the most important issue by a long chalk. Don't think anyone is saying it is. Just an awful lot of women saying they feel they cannot vote Labour while they have the stance they have on it.

Wow I’m shocked.
The Spectator exacerbating a Tory culture war.

What’s wrong with the article?

The author frequently campaigns on this issue across numerous media sources

I’m sure it’s a big deal on a website with a growing reputation for being a polarising (if not radicalising) force on its members, but I fail to see the real-world evidence for it being a major issue.

If you are truly fearful for the state of women’s rights or the erosion of support for new mothers etc, I’m not sure trans people are the best target for your energy.

No, it's not trans people per se, you're right.

Sorry this is bollocks. Go talk to some feminist women about the problems with making woman a gender not a sex and removing womens spaces. Most of this came out during the proposed GRA reform a few years back.

It fuck all to do with “attacking a vulnerable minority”

Do we have statistics on the number of times a man has transitioned to being a woman then used that to assault women in toilets or changing areas? Genuine question

It’s not an argument on assaults is it it’s about being comfortable in their own environment
