Opening day of the season !!!!!!

We've had a fantastic pre season , winning every match , Beating Premier league Nottingham Forest 3-1 and league 1 Oxford and Portsmouth 2-0 along the way ..

Sunderland are back in the championship after a few years out and have suffered back to back pre season defeats recently with a 2-1 away defeat at Accrington the latest .

Not Completely sure of the transfer business they've done , I believe they've got many of the players that helped them to a 5th placed finish in league 1 with a couple of multi million pound player additions though its too soon to see how much better they are than last year if at all , Alex Neil is a solid enough Championship manager so expect them to give teams a good game

Crowd of over 40k expected , with just under 2000 Skyblues in attendance.

Tough place to Go with a huge crowd

Prediction : Sunderland 1 - 2 Coventry

Vik and Godden

Moore
Dabo
Hyam
Fadz
Panzo
Bidwell
Hamer
Sheaf
O hare
Godden
Gyokeres

It's a tough game as they'll have a good crowd behind them and theoretically a bit of momentum from a good end to last season.

If we're at or maybe pretty close to our best we'll win.

On paper it should be a game that we win, but never a fan of away games like this. Imagine their crowd will be right up for it and it may help their team find an extra level. Similarish scenario to us vs Forest first game of last season and we saw what happened there. Would probably take a point if we beat Rotherham the week after.

In all seriousness though, 3-0 win first game. Setting us up for a good season. Gyökeres, Panzo and Tavares to score, 2000 city fans to outsing 40000 Simpletons. O’hare to get fouled 10 times

A team who finished 5th best in L1, who haven’t exactly added to their locker, I’m not worried at all. Agree with a 2-1 win, they’ll score but we’ll find our groove and finish as deserved winners.

Not happy about having 2 promoted teams first 2 games when their tales will be up But still thinkwe should have enough to win both games.
Watched the mackems in the play offssemis and final and they wouldn't have lived with our L1 winning team.

I agree with that , we were very good people forget how solid we were

Lost 3 games all season before it stopped

Throughout the 270 mins of their play-offs, yeah they never once looked like they would’ve put up with or L1 team.

The top teams don’t get affected by the size of the crowd.

A early goal from us and they will turn. I expect them to be naive to the league. The gulf from the fact we have had 2 seasons in this league and experienced group together, I can’t see anything other than an away win.

If we turn up and perform, 0-2 or 0-3.
They finished 5th last year in L1, they are pony

It will be a tough game up there. We get no points for pre season games and they are meaningless.

In my experience opening games of the season are often a lottery.

We dont know what next week will bring in transfer speculation that can be unsettling.

As it stands I think we have a good side. But whatever the result at Sunderland next week it will not define our season.

Seriously hope so and that we can maintain our away form from the back end of last year. Should be a feel good factor amongst a buoyant SBA, assuming we keep the squad intact and don’t pick up any niggly injuries, which may hinder our starting XI.

I’m still nervous surrounding the gk situation, my confidence with Wilson in goal would seriously wain. Nevertheless, a 1-2 victory with Vik and COH will send us back from a ridiculous trek and kick off time with viagra-esque boners, well into the following week.

This could be fairly funny to follow. ‘3-1 against a mediocre coventry team’ 🤣

Had a read through that earlier, most of them are fairly confident but I suppose we would be the same.

I think it’s a good time to play Sunderland because other than Ballard it’s the team that finished 5th in league 1. I think they will improve before the window closes.

0-4 Panzo x 2, Gyok and COH. Geordies calling for the manager’s head by 5pm and screaming “we’ve got the biggest crowds in the league”.

Any sunderland fans dwelling the answer is yes

Hyam , Dabo , Mcfadzean , godden , O hare

The likely 5 that played in our league 1 title team

All have stepped up too , good coaching 😉

I’d expect Wright, evans, roberts, Pritchard and Clarke all to play Sunday. All of them struggled at this level previously hence how they ended up in league 1. I rate Ballard though would of loved him here.

When we sift through the nonsense, ballard is a genuine quality player ..

They can have that 1

Pritchard is a decent player, too. So imo, they have 3 in Stewart, Pritchard and Ballard who are decent. The rest, they need to upgrade asap/ Luckily for them, I think there will be 3 worse teams next season. The following season they should improve with the resources at their disposal. I'm not sure they realise (although some do) the gap between the top end of The Championship (parachute payments) and the rest. I suppose it's the buzz of having just been promoted. We should win, but the first game of the season in front of an upbeat crowd may even it up a bit.

I also said on their forum that i'd take a draw. ... play them 6-10 games in when they've been "softened up" a little and we are (hopefully) into our stride, and we are favourites... but opening game of season, they are going to be playing with no fear with a massive hostile crowd, there's no doubt it is going to be a very tough opener.

I’d rather play them now, I’d expect them to make a few more big signings before the window shuts

Let’s remember whatever happens Sunday it is a 46 match season, I’m fairly confident we can get a result v Sunderland but it’s one of those games they will be buzzing big crowd behind them etc, makes this a tough match.

3 years of experience in this league for us must be a big boost for us, we know how quick and strong you need to be. I think they’ll be in for a big surprise this season, especially those who think they’re too good/big to be in this league.
