On the Assumption Kane and Walker go, as has been touted a lot recently

GK- Moore, Wilson
RWB - Dabo, Eccles, Burroughs
LWB - Adaramola, Bidwell
CB - Hyam, Rose, Fadz, Panzo, Doyle
CM - Hamer, Sheaf, Allen, Eccles, Kelly, Howley
CAM - O'Hare, Palmer
ST - Gyokores, Godden, Tavares, Waghorn

Il say it, stronger than last year. No reason a play off push cant take place

Would be happy with that team overall.
Still think we're going to lose either Gyokeres, O'Hare or Hamer though before the transfer window closes. Hopefully I'm wrong...

Lets hope not.

Even if we can kick the can to January for now, and reassess. If were midtable then of course sell one, even 2 and try and replace. Feel it would be a shame not to at least get the first half of the season out the way without giving it a proper crack

Squad looks good but main thing to be concerned of is an increase of loan players which are a short term fix. Probably not likely to sign anyone else permanently unless players are sold

I agree, and usually MR is against loans, but i think its a case of needs must for this season, as next summer there are some high earners out of contract and expecting a massive churn

Except that the championship in general is a lot stronger than it was last year.
And your not having 2 teams with massive points deductions.
And we arnt going to be the surprise package that we were last year.

I'm not wanting to piss on your fire, but it's easy to get carried away before a ball has been kicked in anger.
If you want a reality check, go through that squad, and ask yourself how many of those players would of got into Fulhams starting line up last year.

And it's worth pointing out that a third of our squad havnt made 20 championship starts BETWEEN THEM!!!!

Agreed. We are going to free up a huge amount of wages next summer:
Kelly, walker, Kane, Hilsner and Waghorn all big earners out of contract. Then still have the likes of fadz, Rose, etc to add onto that.

Could be a good thing or a very bad thing!

I know what you're getting at but if you compare to last season we had Maatsen and JCS and we've replaced them with Adaramola and Panzo/Doyle ( i don't expect Panzo and Doyle to start together regularly). If Bidwell is 1st choice then we may actually be less reliant on loans...time will tell.

And have had to spend up to £120m to fix the issue this summer. Doubt we’d be able to afford that if we got promoted.

And having to gel so many signings may affect their early form. We all know in the Premier League a poor start is usually disaterous. Even with parachute payments can they afford the new signings if they come straight back down? I can see Forest being the whipping boys this season.

Also they had loans like Keinan Davis and Zinckernagel who were experienced and probably paying loan fees for. Spence had 70 games at Boro too

That’s my thinking too.
I guess a counter argument (I’ve had with myself) is that the majority of our players are possibly going to be improving all the time, so potentially those retained will be even better than last year?

Think we need more in CM, once you get past Sheaf and Hamer, we're scraping the barrel a bit, both Allen and Kelly can do jobs at this level, just not constantly and the 2 younger lads are still fairly unknown.

Our big problems last season were erratic defending and a lack of proven backup options in midfield. Hard to say we’ve solved either of those at this point.

I’d say we’ve done a good job at solving the erratic defending with the young lads we’ve got in. But yeh asking a lot to have sheaf and Hamer play every game all season but I don’t think we can realistically have a third option who is just as good on our budget

How much better are Panzo and Doyle going to be than JCS? (Considering that only one of them is likely to be playing at once)

I’m glad we finally have a backup option at LCB, but I’m not convinced that our starting back three has improved much from last season. It might even get worse.

Think we thumped fulham twice last year did we not?

Think a lot of people have rose tinted glasses with regards to JCS because he’s the one that got away. He was a fantastic tackler on his feet but he also definitely had a clanger in him waiting.

Not seen panzo or Doyle play in pre season but apparently Panzo was class and I know we’ve been after him for a while. Doyle kept saying in his interview that he’s known for being a ball playing defender and comfortable with it at his feet.

Time will tell I guess but I’m confident that’s at least been attempted to be addressed

Panzo scored 3 goals from headers. That alone is something we’ve needed.

We did, so even with them gifting us a 6 point headstart, they still pissed the league!

Our problem was that we are horribly inconsistent, which happens when you have so many inexperienced players and young loanees.

So yes we were able to beat Fulham twice, but then again we had our pants pulled down twice by Luton!

Our problem last season was not converting early game dominance into points on the board, squad looks okay to me bit inexperienced here and there but once we are up to speed I think we’ll be a decent team and I’d be disappointed if we don’t challenge the top end. Need more goals from areas other than Gyokeres & Godden.

Midfielders should be chipping in with more goals at least 5-6 each
Full backs/Wing back should contribute 3 or 4 goals a season
Dabo has been here for 3 seasons and is still yet to score

I think this is strategic and that next summer will be the time to rebuild.

Been saying the same for a long time rhino1002.
Central defenders should be scoring 4/5 a season from corners and free kicks, fullbacks weighing in with 2/3, midfield 7/8.

Only six CBs in the entire division managed more than three goals last season. Of the 17 centre backs who managed three goals, two of them are ours.
