Might need just me, but found this interview incredible.

Brought a few tears to my eyes.
I saved her life she saved mine and the nightmare part

Can't imagine the nightmares he has, seeing all those people die again and again whenever you sleep.

That is something you expect from soldiers not "tourists".

Had a brief spell a few years back where I was fascinated by all things Titanic. I feel like the tragedy has almost been romanticised and people forget over 1500 people died in a horrible way, including some very high-profile and rich people. One of the passengers (who died in the sinking) was thought to be the richest person in the world at the time.

Chillingly the ship actually had more lifeboats than it was legally obliged to carry, but still barely enough for half the passengers. More on Prentice himself here-he went pretty much straight back to working at sea.

Went to the titanic museum in Belfast a couple of years ago well worth a visit if anybody is ever over there.
Was in Belfast earlier this year and had planned to go…. But 3 different people told me it’s not worth the effort going. Lots of technical stuff about the engineering aspect. So I went on the prison tour instead…. Which was really good. But I’ll give it a go if you are saying otherwise, when I’m back over there in early 2023.

I have done it a couple of times, it is a fairly technical thing in places but as it is at the factory I guess it would be.

That’s a really moving video. Still haunted by it…and he fought in WW1 also!

Despite my mum coming from near Belfast and my grandad working for H&W I’ve not been to the museum but have heard only good things.

For those interested in all things maritime…the dockyard museum in Pompey is well worth a visit. I went to the Mary Rose exhibition a few years back. It’s exceptional.

The old man also dragged me to the Maritime Museum in Hamburg. I’m glad he did. Although give yourself a day for that one!
