Just saw this is in a Steam sale for £16. I haven't bothered with the game for a while as I simply haven't had the time, but it is it worth it? More to the point, is it ACCURATE? I see a lot of grand claims about the dedicated researchers but then see loads of errors from simple squad guides. So, Pask, potentially better than Fadz, Howley, basically a youngster with hardly any potential, etc. Leamington's squad seemed even more inaccurate. The guides for great signings for leagues also put me off-like the best Welsh League signing being some former Slovenian u21 International who was his D2 club's chairman's son and had actually left them last season! Is it all like that? Because for me the game has never been realistic-fun perhaps, but the fun was often in exploiting the massively inaccurate database. There were always obscure players who went on to be world beaters and I fondly remember the one that started with Kevin Kyle listed as the Coventry fan's favourite, but surely it's better now...isn't it?

So how inaccurate are Coventry at the start? Are Hamer, Vic and O'Hare worth potentially as much as they are now or would I have to dick around with an editor? And how inaccurate is the game in general?

Secondly, is it hard? It looks fairly darn daunting. I read one review from someone who thought it was wonderful but had played 2 games in the week since they had installed it. That's a bit too labour intensive! Can you manage "lighter" and reap results or do you essentially have to be a full time manager?

It's a shame that there aren't more alternative games out there but it seems that FM's dominance over the years has killed any aspirations for that. If anyone knows of any, let me know that too!

I've just spotted that they predicted City gate average of 12,363 (just 7,000 out, then!). Reading are predicted 16 odd rather than the 13-odd that they got, Hull 3k too low, etc. The general trend seems to be that of a "vague stab at what they thought preseason based on the year before" rather than something that got updated as it went along like for example FIFA. Of course I am going off online sources that may be out of date! I presume the patch in February 2022 fixed these things?

If you want to have some fun with it just get a plug and play tactic, leave the training schedules alone and see what happens. The only unrealistic thing about Cov saves is they’ll usually always change owner in the first season.

I have 22, it's the the first edition in 6 or so years that had me hooked on a save. Still definitely has some bad predictions regarding potential of players but I guess that is a thankless task for the Devs.

From memory O'Hare, Gyok and Hamer all have PA ratings that could just about hack low prem high champ. But then I am getting the feeling there are other factors at play over CA and PA nowadays. I had a long term save with FGR where I got them into the Premier League. I had a centerback I picked up from spurs on a free second season that won player of the year in 3 consecutive Leagues. I think he maxed out at ~117 PA.

FM22 certainly can be super complex if you want to fiddle about with every single aspect but thankfully you can delegate pretty much everything to other staff members.

Yeah I usually delegate training to my assistant which speeds things up massively. The “skill” then becomes tempting a quality assistant to join and making sure you upgrade on him each year. You can make it even faster by simulating the matches rather than playing them if you want. I’ve stormed through the seasons doing this before and still managed promotions.

COH on mine ended up a Celtic stalwart until his late 30s which isn’t implausible. If you stick with a save for the long term it becomes a bit moot as all you’ll eventually end up with regen players. By then the key is your scouting team and network.

16 GBP is worth it, for me I get more than my money's worth!

What I would say, you can use the editor to make changes/tweaks to the game, for example I made Eccles a little better.

I rarely manage Cov though, way too much emotion involved!

This last FM I played was i think 05 or 09. I had an epic game (for me anyway) of around 30 seasons. I fell out with the Coventry board and resigned after multiple PL and CL trophies, they wouldn't build a new stadium. That has never sat well with me.

It started to get far too complicated and intricate after that for a bit of fun.

The scout network is pretty extensive, but with some players in game they'll be given a random PA within a range that will be different every time you start a new game.

For the past few years, Walker's always been last to leave for me, never gets great attributes but regularly top scorer in the league

yeah but thats for the mainly for u-18s isnt it. they give them a potential range... pretty much all the 1st teamers and U23/reserves have locked in values I believe

that guy I got from Spurs, Fagan-Walcott has fixed stats but seems to preform better than the values suggest

Could do, but I had this half-baked notion that the 2022 DB (last patch was last late Feb I think)? would more realistically portray last season than the new one will this. They normally have a bit of a scramble correcting their incorrect assumptions a bit in patches I think? Plus, I have this funny feeling that I'm not going to enjoy this season much IRL so escaping back a year would be nice...

I did think he looked very low. Tavares too? They both look like you'd never use them. Whereas yeah, they bloody love Tyler Walker-these "great researchers" are all well and good but it's all about opinions and they should ideally be trying to be replicating Robins' views rather than their own slightly hat-rabbit ratings. Disappointed by that, I honestly thought they were better/more objective.

ha, tragically that is exactly how I feel. cant hack real life not syncing up with in game performance and start resenting players if they are crap in game :D

Fuck plug & plays - part of the fun is stumbling across a tactic that works
I‘m manager of Newbury Forest in the Essex premier league on a level 18 database…so addictive
I definitely recommend starting off as far down as level 18 & building a club up from scratch - much more enjoyable

Does "plug and play" mean downloading someone else's tactic from the internet, or just using a pre-set tactic?

The level 18 database sounds wonderful! How high have you taken anyone from that level?

Whatever you pick, have your main tactic, then ones to hold a lead and chase the game.

Right have taken the plunge and am downloading. Will spend the rest of the night downloading "crucial patches" (like ManU/Juve name debacles) and then have a crack at...Aberystwyth Town! They're terrible and from what I can see, the entire coaching staff and most of the players from last season have gone now. That gives me a clear conscience to be both terrible and ruthless. And I might blatantly cheat for fun as it's my first go and see if Biamou and Jodi Jones (what, he SOUNDS Welsh!) can tear up the Welsh League on their own-along with existing Aber RB Jack Rimmer.

Why Aberystwyth Town, you ask? Well I had a short break there and at one point the entire first team squad jogged down an alley past me and off towards the beach. It was an awkward moment of both admiration and pity. Not much in the way of training facilities then, I expect.

Stick to JRPGs for fun in video games.

That happened to me on my last one i think it was FM21 touch on ipad. Had a guy who had a tonne of potential but his attributes and rating stopped growing but he couldn't stop scoring. Like would regularly bang in like 25 goals a season no matter what league we were in even though he was only like 3 star rated.

I also had Josh Tymon playing even though he was shit just for his long throws cause i used to score basically every game from a long throw into the box - might've been a glitch on reflectoin
