The timing of Callum Doyle's very good performance against Hull was a welcome shot in the arm after Hyam going. He and Panzo are very good players and will only improve as the season goes on.

Rose will be given a chance too, although he plays best in the centre of a 3. The left foot/right foot balance is off, but I expect we will see both Doyle and Panzo starting together soon. In terms of depth, IF we get injuries, Sheaf and Bidwell can provide cover in the back 3. We have Dabo, Eccles, Kane to cover RWB, so we REALLY need Adaramola to get up to speed quickly OR bring in a free agent.

In an ideal World, we bring in a couple of free agents (LWB & CB).

Note; the club statement refers to business being concluded 'during this summer transfer window'. There are still many free agents out there AND players that will be in discussions to move on and will have contracts cancelled to allow moves in the next week or so.

Well Hyam and JCS did and all it took was an announcement they signed for Blackburn / QPR.
The defence was shit last season and you've just made the point we've made it worse by replacing two experienced championship players with two kids that have barely played at this level.

Continue popping off at posters though.

Maatsen had never played at this level either and had played less games in League 1 than Doyle has.

JCS was hardly the seasoned Championship defender that people seem to act like.

I'm not worried about LWB to be honest, I think Bidwell is turning into a today player and his shit last season was adjusting to our system and getting match fit. he rarely seems to be injured too which means we shouldn't need to rely on cover.

It's the CBs that are a concern. All 4 of them have question marks. Not a good feeling when you play a back 3.

Definitely worried about CB. Everywhere else feels good enough although an improvement on Allen at CM would make a huge difference. Don't know enough about Bennett - worry it's a 'Name', not one based on normal recruitment plans.

I hoped Eccles, Howley or Burroughs - in my head he was a CM, poss. AM before we started using him at RWB - could step up and play some minutes at CM but doesn't look likely. If injuries happen, hope we try one of them there but that's a risk.

Palmer and O'Hare feel enough at AM with Waghorn about as well. Strikers are fine. GK is a worry but hopefully that's a form issue not a permanent problem. An experienced free agent at CB could make a real difference if we picked well.

Going to put it out there, Burroughs always gets forgotten for LWB and RWB.

He was one of the few positives of the Bristol game.

I'd be ok with him in there over Eccles, he seemed completely unsure of himself on Wednesday. Don't want to criticise him too much as it's clearly not his position, noticed him being told where he should be so often by Rose and others.

I was impressed with Doyle on Wednesday.
We are still very light at CB, but I'm not as worried after seeing him play.
One or two injuries/suspensions in that position though and we'll be in trouble

I think 4 at the back suits our attacking players more while O'Hare is out too.

I'd look at going a 4-3-3 like:

Moore
Dabo Fadz Panzo Bidwell
Hamer Sheaf Allen
Waghorn Godden Gyokeres

With Allen coming out for Palmer when we're being more adventurous and the midfield going:
Hamer Sheaf
Palmer

A direct replacement for Hyam would have been ideal i.e. RCB, but if Rose stays fit he can do a job. I have concerns over how good he actually is, but there were signs previously he could be a player, so let’s hope consistent game time helps.

Dabo is a worry, he had an amazing L1 season but post that I can’t remember him doing much as he seems to constantly be in/out of the team. Again though, with game time I’m confident we’ll see the Dabo of previous.

In the meantime, despite his inexperience we have to give Burroughs a go - Eccles looks so lost and it can’t be helping his confidence.

I wasn’t a fan of Bidwell last year, but he is offering something so far this year and he takes no prisoners either - we lack that presence in our team.

Doyle and Panzo have both had one great game a piece - we’re going to get some inconsistency with younger/inexperienced Championship defenders and have to accept it. However both look confident and will only improve over time. Doyle was excellent on Wednesday.

So we’ve lost JCS and replaced him with Panzo.
We’ve lost Hyam but have a ready made back up in Rose.
Plus Doyle to cover at CB.
We’ve lost Maatsen but Bidwell is stepping up.

Our issue last year was sloppy goals, we have a new look defence this year - forced upon us or otherwise - that’s what we wanted didn’t we?!

In all seriousness let’s give them a chance. We know we’re one experienced CB and a back up LWB short (unless Tayo comes good), but the starting back 5 are good enough for this league. Let’s give them a chance to get match sharp.

People can say we’re only bottom because of the pitch disruption and playing less games than everyone else but our defence is appalling. The fact we haven’t replaced Hyam is a disgrace.

I'm also advocating for a change in formation. If we aren't very good at the back then we could, I suppose, focus on just trying to outscore the enemy instead. A 4-3-3 does make sense for me as well. The wingers (certainly on the right side) don't create enough anyway, so just bin it off. We have enough strikers that should be capable so play three of them together. I would say we would be paying to our strengths better by doing it this way.

That doesn't take into account the keeper chucking 3 in his own net though does it

Now joined AFC Telford.

Bit surprised. He produced a good cameo against Bristol city and I thought we might see him on the bench quite a bit as the season progressed.
However for his future development a prolonged stint in adult football will do him no harm.

We still might. Aren’t these “youth loan deal” very easy to chop and change?

Id go with Rose, Doyle, Panzo and put Dabo and Burroughs as RWB and LWB. Eccles and Bidwell are not wing backs and look limited in those positions to me.

Think young Doyle might just throw a curve ball looked confident and assured the other night, he has played over 30 games last season for Sunderland not sure where that leaves Panzo can’t see him centre-half in the McFadz position.
