Pathetic and weak decision. Apparently AGAINST government recommendation.
Apparently other sports including rugby are going ahead. Why are football authorities so poor?

I wouldn’t bank on it government has announced ten days of national mourning and our new King has announced ten days of Royal mourning nor sure what that means

It’s just the weekend games off

EIHL (Hockey)

Everyone connected with the Elite League was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.

Following a meeting of the Elite League Board on Friday morning, and following current guidance, the league's ten member teams have agreed to proceed with the season-opening games as planned, beginning tonight in Glasgow.

As a mark of respect, all games this weekend will be preceded by a two-minute silence followed by the playing of the national anthem.

That's all the EPL and EFL needed to do.

at the daily midday briefing pm's spokesperson is once again saying there is no obligation to cancel sporting events so it looks like they want games to go ahead

This is great news, last game of cricket tomorrow which seems like itll still be on. Only missed 1 game for cricket this season when its normally 4 or 5. Cheer up all!

Yeah, I reckon we should also get a tax break so we can mourn for a week. Maybe free heating too.

No smiling, laughing or joking for a week and make sure you are also wearing black clothes all week.

I'm waiting for the government to now blame the EFL for the country going into recession following the cancellation of fixtures this weekend. 😂

So, 6 weeks into the season and CCFC yet to play a Saturday home game. This again will be catastrophic for cashflow. What a disaster. As I said earlier the club should be making representations to the EFL.

I think the PL made the initial gesture (no financial issues for them) and the EFL have just followed like sheep.

Wonder what would happen if they said fuck it we will play it anyway if West Brom are up for it as we need the money?

How would it have been disrespectful for it to be played?

Is making me come to work disrespectful too?
Nick pal, with respect. You are not being asked to not go to work, you are being asked to miss a football match.
F*** I would not even call myself a royalist, but for this lady I will gladly miss a football match.

But don’t force everyone to work and school but take their little bit of leisure at the weekend away

Exactly this. Why cancel one thing and not others? Just seems a meaningless gesture. A minutes silence, perhaps those who wish could do a few chorus of the anthem during the game, no need at all to cancel when everything else goes on as normal. Moves games on the day of the funeral at most.
