Im not saying those who dont go to every game are plastic fans. Im on about people who support Man U every week, but then go back to supporting your Southamptons or Coventrys when they do well

When you look at our dwindling crowds it's people who are staying away largely because of SISU, or because of our worsening status (the two going hand-in-hand). If we were to improve either SISU will have swanned off to let someone else get in or they'll have turned round public opinion with success so those people would return. I don't think we've really lost fans to the big teams, we've just lost fans.

Trust me, this is not the case. I know loads of Southampton fans, and they abandoned their team in league 1, then re-joined in promotion to the championship

Interesting :thinking about: I get what your saying, and agree. I just wish people who make the effort to go to the games against big teams, made the same for the games against smaller teams. I do have to applaud the SBA for the away support so far to be fair :wave:

I'd like to think that if we even started mounting a challenge in this division we'd see a bit of extra interest, if only going by that Leeds game where there was a decent crowd (inevitably let down). Without some kind of momentum or success going for us, a lot of people don't want to subject themselves to uninspiring expense against unfashionable sides. After years of nothingness it's hard to blame a lot of them.

Like those twats dressed as in tuxedos when we played them. We saw them after the game, later that night on the town, and they admitted that they preferred the 'rugger'....bunch of pricks.

Can't remember exactly when it was, but it was being built up quite a bit and a win would have had us hovering around the top six and we ended up losing. Might have been season before last? I remember it was a bumper crowd for our usual numbers.

No the season before when we were doing decent under Boothroyd, lost 3-2 and had a crowd of like 28k

Saints probably had bigger attendances than us in League 1 when we were in the Championship. They had a sell out crowd one boxing day v Exeter if I remember rightly!

Fortuna Duesseldorf of my hometown returned to top flight this season for the first time in 15 years.
Sold 1.500 season tickets in third division, 17.000 in the last season in second division and the club stopped selling season tickets this season when numbers hit 31.000 - fourth most in German top flight.
I really don't think this might be different anywhere on the planet.

Dont kid yourself. We've not had decent support for decades and if we ever get back to the top flight we would still only scrape 20k with larger crowds when the top five or six came round, same as ever. I remember various games at home where we would only get 9k in the Premier so whats going to change, as far as I can see the old boys are croaking it a the top and not many kids coming in at the bottom that want a life of misery supporting our lot. Even my son doesn't support Cov and I have no intention of influencing him to suffer with me. I often curse my dad for taking me to see Wallace, Ferguson, Hutch, Yorath etc. as its all ended up here and seemingly whatever league we fall into we dont seem to realise the object is to be in the top half. I think if anyone comes to watch us, even if its only a few games a season then fair play to them. I wouldn't describe them a plastic, more normal. I mean this last 12 years hasn't exactly been fun has it.

The point looks fairly clear to me...Saints have bigger gates than us at the same level of football...& the lower the level the greater the difference. That suggests a much more loyal fan base.
I live in Soton & even in the bad days there was always a general feeling of positivity & optimism.
