BBC News - Large-scale disorder breaks out in Leicester

Seemingly after a cricket match between Pakistan and India. 🤷

Huh? Why is there trouble in Leicester over a match that was played in Dubai two weeks ago?

Is that a genuine thing or a cover for some other reason?

Young men gonna be young men.

It'll blow over.

Probably arguing about who got fucked over by the empire most (RIP HRH).

Hopefully the perpetrators will be caught. I saw the tail-end and the wrong uns were all out, could've done with some bouncers or at least a night watchman.

Caught the two main perpetrators but apparently there's a third man (a Chinaman) he's been giving the authorities the slip.
His appearance is said to be distinctive in as much as he has one square leg and wears a chain.
Get him and it will all be over.

Those paralympians can create quite a ruckus can't they!

I see one guy they charged said he was influenced by what he heard on social media. That info in the end proved to be fake.

There's a fair bit of history between Hindu and Muslim of course, but imho this is basically rampant sectarianism fuelled by lunatics on social media.

At one point, probably in the mid-90s, I genuinely thought the world was becoming a calmer, more civilised place, and then Twitter and Facebook arrived!

So it's a bit like ac Milan and inter Milan hooligans kicking off all over a village in the UK?

Why not fly over and have the scrap there?

Wild guessing with little knowledge here, but it sounds like there’s been an increase in hard line Hindu immigrants coming in and bringing the trouble with them. Perhaps due to the change in immigration patterns post Brexit (less EU more Indian)?

I mean, the guy in the video explains it himself - they were supposedly protesting a controversial Hindu politician being invited to speak at the temple. Supposedly she was due to speak in Coventry as well.

Not sure I could get away with calling people "freshies" though. (Unless it doesn't mean the obvious)

Seems to have an issue with non British Hindus.

If that was Tommy Robinson outside a mosque in a balaclava.....

It was more the question of why now.

Not opened the video, but freshies is a standard term I've heard mainly from the girls at work who are 2nd and 3rd generation. With what their own families would have suffered by a generation ago you'd think they'd be more sympathetic having now paved the way for them to climb the social and economic ladder, but appear less welcoming and tend to look down on them even more so which is quite sad.

I don’t generally have much time for gangs of lads who turn up outside places of worship in balaclavas, and clearly the violence needs to stop, but that’s a silly comparison.

It's not though.

Generally Indian culture is racist and they despise Pakistan Muslims

It was more the question of why now.

It’s growing Hindi nationalism and the RSS which makes the national front like a liberal tea party, I guess Leicester has a high mix of the 2 groups but I’m surprised it hasn’t escalated

It’s not just Pakistani Muslims it’s Muslims in general. About a sixth of the population of India are Muslim and they are being increasingly marginalised in India too. Especially under Modi who is a Hindu nationalist. It’s not just Muslims who are being marginalised under Modi, Christians, Buddhist and even Sikhs to the point where all minority groups are coming together to combat Hindu nationalism. Sikhs and Muslims uniting, that’s the measure of the rising issues with nationalism in India.

Modi has unleashed something very worrying in India.
And the problem is, even if he thinks this has gone too far I need to put a lid on it, they'll just bin him and elect someone more extreme.

Think it's more prevalent in one half of the country, north or south, but can't remember which butgiven Tthe size of the place that's a lot of crackpots.

Looks like it’s kicking off in Foleshill now.

Just been down Stoney Stanton and the roads around the Hindu temple are blocked by police and there must be 50+ Muslim lads in masks and balaclavas milling around with almost the same number of cops.

Guy at the petrol station had to close because masked people were coming in and stealing shit apparently.
