Is it me or if the pressure group the Confederation of British Industries want a seat around Question Time table then businesses should at least be paying the same the rate of corporation tax as the population with income tax.

Given the audience reflected the 2019 GE when they voted a Tory MP in (win from Lib/Dems I think) there wasn’t half an appetite for a GE now. It was literally all the audience bar a handful and I mean literally a handful. 4.

Everyone breathe, looks like Boris hasn’t got the votes…

Sounds to me like he's trying to win the vote without going to the membership. Sunak must know the chances of winning the membership vote are very low after losing the last catastrophuck to Truss.

Seeing half of the Government's well paid jobs are up for grabs again, people are going to vote for the best person which will further their career than what's best for the Tory party, or larger population in general. I differentiate between the two groups because this is just getting fucking bonkers.

It's an absolute mockery of the last process if they can now just decide to chose one in a week. What was the point in the endless TV coverage and debates when we didn't get a vote anyway?

At the sharp edge, 85000 Conservative Party members voted her in. The trouble with Politics now is that it is at the mercy of the Press and Media. As the media rolls on, we get sucked in. We all have an off button, but we are seemingly transfixed by the continual cycle of bad news.

So, we have Governments full of of people on a mission to change their world.

I think the problem is with the political parties. There is a saying, Politics is show business for ugly people.

Parliament was there from an age where there was no internet, the only way to be heard was to put forward an elective representative from your area who could argue what's best for your area amongst others representatives.

Times have changed.

It is now possible to do away with elective representatives and political parties and get decisions directly from the electorate through Direct Democracy.

As long as the decisions reached passes the Utilitarian test for being a good idea and everyone's individual Right's are protected from the dangers of Utilitarianism, then why are we bothering with this archaic form of government?

Representative democracy has served the test of time I’m not sure the public are at all wise enough for the role you want them to play

Some nauseating client media front pages from Boris' pals this morning. This country is a joke.
I don’t get it!
Maybe that’s what we are
The most attractive leader to us all is one that messes around a bit, offends a bit, doesn’t really do his job and lies and cheats to get what he wants

Maybe that’s what we as a country honour and aspire to be

Direct Democracy is a fucking terrible system as shown by how we just used it to tank out own country at the behest of a few rich pricks and foreign interests.

I still think that's not true however. No doubt Johnson's an effective election winning machine, but his opponents have been Livingstone and Corbyn, so he hasn't exactly been tested against the mainstream!

And Sunak did resign because Johnson wanted to do some unfunded tax cuts and spending commitments too, so it's an easy line of attack. He's also being investigated by the standards committee, and would they want somebody to have to resign instantly yet again?

Also, Hunt is possibly the most secure member of government atm, as who would dare get rid of the chancellor just atm, so he'll likely have a big say in who becomes PM. He'd be more likely to favour a Sunak or Mordaunt type.

Johnson was never a popular leader. He was less popular than May.

He's always been divisive within the parliamentary party, Brexit just gave an opportunity he'd have never had otherwise. Pretty sure there'd be plenty who wouldn't want him back, especially not so quickly!

Rachel Johnson on QT last night, Stanley Johnson on GMB this morning. The press seem desperate for it to happen.

I suppose they know they are going to lose the next election, badly, and Johnson is probably the only one who can at least claw some of those votes back. Damage limitation I guess.

No doubt he'll find a way to whitewash the privileges committee.

He would tear the PCP apart, but blocking him off from the members vote (which he’d win) will piss off the members.

I’m so glad he’s standing 😂

Watching GB News for a few minutes last night, the whole thing was some kind of grim rain dance begging for Johnson’s return. Could be a(nother) Corbyn moment in the making for the Tory party.

If they elect him and he has to resign, again, just weeks later that would surely be the end of the Tory party for a long time...

I want them in single figures.

I want them ground to dust.

I want scenes of Rees Mogg, Shapps, Patel, Johnson, the entire ERG losing their seats on election night.

Then I want a new right wing party to emerge. Or ideally two.

I’m not generally pro PR, but I’d be very tempted if I were Labour to pull the trigger and stop the Tories in this form ever coming back. Let it’s vote split into UKIP/Basically Lib Dem (and Labours split as well obviously, which is why it won’t happen. But I’d sacrifice Labour to get rid of the Tory Party)

When you start thinking of all the utter c**ts that you'd love to see their faces when they lose their seat the list gets very long indeed, it's hard to stop yourself :ROFLMAO:

There's the ones you mention above, then you've got the old school twats like Swayne, Redwood and Bone, then the 2019 ghouls like Gullis and Anderson. The list is endless!

My word it would be delicious

He'll only announce if he's certain he's got the numbers.
In which case we'll know by the weekend if he's effectively PM again.

Im then guessing subsequent `pressure' brought to bear on that Privileges committee meeting.

Unbelievable

Really couldn’t make it up. It would be bordering on hilarious if it wasn’t so serious for the country. They don’t seem to have any self awareness or appreciation of what the country’s thinking or saying. Total deluded bubble

ps how the members are allowed anywhere near this vote I’ll never know. Heard one of the radio saying members are getting an unfair wrap…WTF !!! Hopefully it won’t go to them.

Or, more likely, they don't care.
