That was only the case if they'd been abroad for 15+ years.
Personally, I think if you pay taxes and live in a country you should be able to vote.
Not the case in the UK. In the UK if you’re a foreign national you’re allowed to vote in local elections but not general elections. I actually know someone who is a foreign national, born to foreign nationals in their home country, her family moved here when she was a baby, she was educated in this country including higher education, English is her mother tongue, she’s only ever worked in the UK, only ever paid taxes in the UK, has children born in this country, is married to a British citizen but can’t vote in a GE. Her sister born six months after they arrived can though. It’s mental. 20 years of paying tax in this country and doesn’t get a vote, non doms on the other hand do. That’s fucked up.

It's the same in Italy and I run a small business, so pay a fair whack in pension payments, tax etc but get no say in the GEs - it's so out of date.

I'm in a shared workspace and only know what the first one means, so don't want to search for it - can I choose both?

Haha, I'm also in a shared workspace, know what the first one means and was contemplating Googling the second. Think I'll wait until it's a bit quieter around here!!

There should be an instant freezing on her pension she has done nothing to earn this astronomical pay off, it could cost us to 700k per year with the added cost. The cost per day in charge to us by the end is f her life will be massive.

Sunderland are on course to have more prime ministers in 2022/2023 than they had wins in 2005/2006.

Didn't even have time to change the wallpaper in the No. 10 flat.

Can't see the Tory's electing anyone without a membership vote.

They all know the prize is up for grabs again. Would imagine another full contest of 'I am a Tory, get me out of here'.

Herding cats comes to mind.

I assume Johnson is still a sitting mp so does anybody know how many days he has spent in parliament since being removed I know many of his colleagues have been resting but he is currently on holiday did he not get enough time in all the allowed breaks to go

Truss is able to claim big money for leaving her post. And a walking pension on retirement age. Plus additional pension from her service as an MP. I bet she does it as well.

Are you Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson?

I would be an anarchist, but I do recognise the decent things that Democracy puts forward, like the intrinsic natures of Liberty and Equality which makes it worthwhile.

Just a shame the political parties on the main don't espouse the same views.

The issue with politics in general or any of the politicians is when they start having ideas or begin to talk.

This is a big mistake.

It patently isn’t true that they’re all as bad as each other. That’s not even true within the Tory party. You’re clearly not that interested.

Let's take the former MP Sir David Amess. Tragic end to a life but all you hear is the wonderful things he said about Southend being a city.

The bloke was also a right wing lunatic who wanted the death penalty back. Don't hear that in any of the eulogies.

My son isn't even 5 months old yet but in that time...

4 Chancellor's
3 Home Secretaries
3 Prime Ministers
2 Monarchs

This country is an utter fucking shambles.
When my oldest was a baby the banking crisis hit triggering a world recession. I was foolish enough to say thank god it’s happening now, by the time she leaves school we’ll be out the other side and the economy will be booming. She’s just started her GCSE’s and the world and especially our country is probably in the worst state I’ve ever known it. It isn’t going to be sorted by the time she finishes 6th form either.

Fucking hell, it could actually be Johnson.

What the fuck is wrong with these people

Though to be fair he'll just get the headbangers and I don't think there are a hundred of them

Starting to sound like the Tories are about to finish the job of tearing themselves apart and it’s all over Boris. The Boris cult are mobilising themselves very quickly, he’s got 25 backers already. Already MP are threatening to resign the whip if Boris comes back and sit on the opposition bench as an independent. The more extreme are saying that they’ll resign as an MP altogether triggering a by-election. Oddly Boris coming back might be the quickest route to a GE.

I wonder what the Boris cult will do if Boris doesn’t get in? Especially if Sunak gets the job. Will they split? Could that trigger a GE?

I think Johnson will race ahead to a big early lead and get 50 odd backers, but there will be a limit to that. As mental as they are there is a limited number of headbangers in the party.

Most commentators now suggesting he’ll do well to get 60. This will be the measure of the “man”. Not his popularity but his narcissism. If he declares himself as a candidate knowing he’s not going to get the required 100 it’s going to drive the wedge deep. He’ll be completely putting himself ahead of party. If he wants to put his party first he’ll declare he’s not running and the sooner the better for the Tories. If he tries to push it I think all he’ll achieve is gifting The Reform Party their first MP’s.

Baldrick - Sir, I have a cunning plan, no one will like cuts in public spending, that won’t go down well, below inflation awards for Nurses, police, public servants, increases in taxes for others again won’t be liked.
Lets go with the opposite with a complete fool, the markets and country will react with extreme measure and complete turmoil will ensue, we have to shoot the chancellor and the fool then but the country will then love Rishi and love the austerity measures and cuts as it will feel better with stable markets.
we can make a few quid along the way as we will know the pound will crash and then sell out for the bounce.

don’t be stupid Baldrick, the public will never fall for that……
