Think this deserves it’s own thread

How would people feel about Ashley? I must admit I’d struggle to get really excited about it

I don’t like the way he does business, the way he treats staff in said business and I really wouldn’t want to see the ground and club be used as a cash cow for the tacky and frankly awful Sports Direct brand

Understand people want the back of SISU and I completely get why and whilst I’d accept it, I couldn’t praise or hail him as some sort of saviour if it turned out to be him,

Think shmmeee is right, we will take anyone as long as they are not SISU.
For the record, I personally think Ashley is an absolute bas**** . Just my opinion.

Never met him, unlikely I ever will, as with most people on this forum either. Nothing more to say.

I think he would be a good, but not great owner. Certainly miles better than the incumbents.

I said in the other thread my main concern would be him sacking Robins and appointing Steve Bruce.

Indeed, you only have to look at how he alienated fans favourites at Newcastle to make sure he got his own men in to be worried that Robins leaving is a realistic proposition if he takes charge

I doubt Ashley is REALLY looking at us in all truth. He found the derby situation to difficult and pissed off without a real fight and he’ll do the same here in all truth.

If it’s not straight forward I get the impression he doesn’t have much patience and moves onto his next prey.

I’m not overly keen. However he wouldn’t buy us to stick a load of Sports Direct signs up and then linger around lower end Championship, or League One. The aim for him would be the promised land of the Premier League. I would find that hard to dislike, as much as I’d dislike the bloke (and the signs).

In principle he’d be a decent fit, but then again we said the same about SISU. His track record doesn’t fill me with optimism, the fans of his last club hated him, and as someone who apparently seems to be in the market for any football club, I’m not sure about his motivations. So I’m on the pessimistic side.

I hate him and all he stands for. I’d be mortified if he came anywhere near. I’d rather be league 2

Surely not! As someone said he could come in want to turn a dire situation around get us into the Premiership and sell us to a rich investor and pocket the difference. Personally for me that is a better route than a half full stadium and league 2 football.

Don't see why Newcastle fans hated him...he got them back to the prem spent a few million on players and got the richest owners for them...that'll do for me

He will set Coventry up the same way if he takes over - even with other clubs. Coventry looks more promising though. An opportunity to get CCFC and CBS back together (potentially already making the club more profitable/appealing in the long run) making them contenders for promotion or even getting promotion and he will be looking to sell the club in a few years. Arguably, he can do this with any club but I would say Coventry has caught his eye with a modern stadium.

It's all about fan expectation. Newcastle fans think they should be champions league every year despite them not winning anything since before we were all born. They want their owner to spend as much as it takes to do that so they might now have the correct owners.

Ashley prefers to try and run a break even policy or as close as he can. In his 14 years at Newcastle the club spent over 1/2 a billion pounds in transfers. The net spend was was closer to 150 million so too say he never spent anything and just took money out is misleading.

How many of us would turn down that investment for a few sports direct signs at the stadium with the majority of the next 14 years as a mid table Prem team?

If he got Coventry to the premiership alone there would be a statue outside the CBS for him.

It’s interesting isn’t it. To be clear I’d bite your hand off for that situation overall.

However…a big part of our journey in the last few years has been our identity. Hummel kits etc. Will be a shame to see that go

Thays my concern. I want this ride to carry on, not being replaced by foreign managers and identikit expensive signings with no affinity to the club.

One step at a time, let's have the 51% takeover completed/announced first, then all the ensemble that goes with it, and then go from there.

And put Out some good teams when we were plunging down the league system. So much so that Ashley Out would sound a bit daft.

You speak for yourself Chicken. If I could remember the last time they won a trophy I’d prove you wrong.

The occasional relegation and promotion as well.

Has there ever been any evidence he’s interested in buying us apart from hopeful speculation on here and social media?
From what I’ve read he’s only been interested in the franchise and stadium.

Just looking forward to proving a theory right if City gets investment.

God no, but when has that stopped anyone

I might start a few social media posts about how Roman Abramovich has been seen buying meal deals from the Boots in town and someone will bite.

What would the joint set up look like?
If it's 51%-49% what does that mean for liabilities on each other?
Does for instance the major shareholder become liable to the Sisu debt?
