The thought of playing 2 strikers just doesnt work for us. Blessing in disguise and proves my point. BOX MIDFIELD ALL DAY LONG.

I'm sure this is no co incidence in the anazing clean sheet run.

BOX MIDFIELD benefits our back 5 too.

If you have a one man battering ram up front you don’t need someone up there with him, you need the midfield behind him getting more of the ball and getting forward in numbers to support him.

so funny that we were talking about how few wins we had in 12 months - we have since won 8 out of 12
End of september I would have been happy with 20th in the league
2 weeks ago I would have been happy with 12th
After yesterday (albeit depends on if our team is broken up in January) I would be disappointed if we do not reach the play offs
I would say our midfield and forwards are as good as anything else in the division
Our weak link on paper is the keeper and defence, but then look at the clean sheets and the quality of the recent performances

Surprised Southgate hasnt looked at taking the whole back line to Qatar;)

I doubt it, he just wasn't good enough.

I didn't see him play but I think it is unlikely he wasn't good enough. I don't recall SlowerThanPlatt (haven't seen him for a while btw) ever raving about a player of ours but he seemed to know a lot about this lad and rated him highly and Palace fans also seem to think he has a good future. He is young and it isn't that surprising he didn't settle.

Based on his comments at the time it seemed bigger than that - the players' body language at the time was a world away from the previous season as well - something must have been going on behind the scenes.
Body language doesn't tend to be great when you're losing. The point is we will never know if there were issues, and that's a good thing.

Yes where is Slowerthanplatt? Hope it's all good in the hood with him.

Yeah the 'issues' seemed to me that we were playing shit and bottom of the league. Of course morale and body language was poor.

Worked a treat with Godden too in league 1 winning season. It's not just about having a battering ram.

I don't think having games called off because of the pitch being unsafe or having a senior member of the squad bunged off on the cheap particularly helped, mind.

Nah dont think we were playing shit.

Played really well vs Sunderland/Millwall/Hull

We were better than Luton and Preston and Burmingham too imo. Can argue 50/50 games.

It’s not hindsight if people we’re saying we’d be ok at the time is it.
No, but the situation at the time wasn't looking rosy and none of us has a crystal ball. I'm all for living in hope.

But the circumstances aided an air of bad club management, despondency, and lowering morale. If an organisation's constantly fire fighting then it distracts from the core business.

Those circumstances are why to be worried, not a reason to excuse as far as I was concerned - a darkness surrounding the club is not good. Thankfully, we have a team manager that can get results despite the ineptitude surrounding him.

It also applies now of course (and I know I'm preaching to the quoted comverted) that we're not promotion contenders as it stands, we're a midtable Championship side! We'll see how we go after a break...
It’s also a fact that all of those issues still remain

Could it have been the financial issues?

Turns out we are 3 points worse off than last season with 1 less game played
Interesting stat, but last year we fell away towards the end of the season. If we can learn from that, and avoid injuries, and maybe add one or two bodies in January, then the playoffs are a realistic target.

I love how we can all join arm in arm and celebrate a good win together.

Narrator: 'But SBT had other ideas.'

In fairness reading some of this stuff really gives me a chuckle, even reading my own bile. This thread is probably a classic now though; P45's, suicide hotlines, Glicko turf wars, a comparison to the 1919 squad - where clearly many of our players were killed fighting in World War One.

If this place had a subscription fee, I would pay it.

The odd thing is we aren't played off the park. We either have a defence that leaks shit goals or we can't put it in the net. I'm still hopeful it will turn around.
Happy to have had my head well and truly in the sand. We stopped the shit goals and built from there. I'd have been way more worried if I felt like we were getting totally obliterated week in week out.

That’s true.

Gyok thought process:

“Right, I’ve turned my marker, got into the box time to lay it to one of the attacking mids I’ve caught in the corner of my eye who are running in - they will be able to hit the target”

(looks up, it’s Calum and Jamie)

“Holy fooks, gonna have to shoot myself”.
