Not Wasps, the arena project.

Sisu are like those incel kids who refuse to wash or talk to girls then get angry at the popular boys who “don’t treat them right”. Do the fucking basics before whining others are doing better.

They’ve come in from day one without a clue how to handle a local authority or what their priorities are. Not once I’ve they put forward a vision anyone can buy into, not once have they been honest about their intentions. All they’ve done is try and get an asset on the cheap and throw mud at anyone who gets in their way.

Take the emotion of being a CCFC fan out of it and it’s fucking silly to ask “why does this local authority was two major sports teams in its locality?”. You know why they want Wasps it’s the same reasons we all wheeled out when CCFC were going to leave the area.

What the council cares about is regeneration, jobs, maybe some National and international recognition that makes investment easier to come by, and not having endless costly legal battles. Wasps turned up and offered that while Sisu offered fuck all but hostile press and vexatious lawsuits.

You can piss and moan that the council want that and not to make CCFC a champions league team or whatever but that’s the way of the world.

That’s why I focus on Sisu when it comes to CCFC. If we want to talk about the councils failings for the city of Coventry I could talk all day but this isn’t skyscrapercity or Twitter or whatever it’s SkyBluesTalk.

This is stunningly easy: if you want something, put the bare minimum amount of effort into getting it or STFU and cry into your beer.
They have been doing more than the bare minimum as Boddy’s programme notes show. There’s a lot of distrust though both ways and that makes it hard

Answer the question!

This is Fucking frustrating. If Sisu offered the best bid for ACL and didn’t get it for underhand reasons then I’ll join you with the pitchforks at whoever did that. If they played silly buggers then no sympathy.

I said IF. Not they had I was trying to get your reaction to that figure

Well not quite. They came in having been sold a false vision by Ray Ranson and only realised years afterwards what they'd really walked into. It was about 2010 that they decided to turn off the tap and 2012 that the idea was born to distress the stadium to their advantage. Once that failed it's led to this zombie state of hoping that the stadium will still go bust and nobody else will want it.

As for the Council-they gifted the ground to Wasps who financed the acquisition with a steaming pile of debt. Great move that turned out to be. And no, they have no obligation to bend over and help the football club. But they did so for Wasps even when they were blatantly insolvent. FWIW, the football club put in what, £9-10 million in rental payments over the first 7 years of the stadium's life?

If I was Sisu and I was serious and I thought CCC were going to ply silly buggers I’d have made it politicially toxic to do so.

As me and NW have been saying there’s a newer group of councillors who don’t have that history and could easily be swayed by a reasonable proposal that focuses on the councils needs.

FFS the Telegraph will print any old shite relating to CCFC, get a fancy mock up done, go to Andy Turner with “CCFCs plan for arena” and use all that finely honed bullshit from the new stadium wheeze to good effect to say “look what you could have and it would help the club”. Isolate the old guard in the council and make it clear you’re in the running.

All that’s come out is “they want to wait until it’s in admin” which just plays into the “Sisu just want a bargain” and not “CCFC can regenerate the north of Cov” which is what the council want to hear.

They don’t even need to be particularly inventive, just steal the 2014 Wasps prospectus and find replace with CCFC.

I want them to fund a successful football club. Didn’t give a toss about the north of Coventry

You’re missing what he’s saying - do a Wasps, bullshit the council to curry favour, get the arena and say we can’t afford it sorry
I’m not and I understand they want to wined dined and 69’d. But it got them a whole heap of pain and no investment. I’d prefer honest we just want a place to play and we can talk about joint initiatives

Given the original vote on building the Arena was only carried by giving way to Dave Nellist's request for more regeneration around the area (that still hasn't happened) it's safe to say it's a trick that seems to continue to work(!)

Then we won’t get the arena because other people will offer that stuff and that’s the priority for the council.

It’s like teachers who refuse to change for Ofsted, very noble but ultimately stupid as they’ll assume that’s what you’re doing and penalise you accordingly.

If that’s the best bid (and I think it’s about that that Ashley has offered?) then great. I hope they get it.

No- don't be obtuse. I said if SISU had offered £16m and no debt and a secure lease what do think the reaction would have been?

Oh sorry I thought you meant my reaction.

I dunno, AFAIK the board would have a legal responsibility to accept the bid that got their creditors the most money back, no?

Remember in 2011 when Ranson realised his plan was fucked and quit. That idiot Dulieu came in and at the very first press conference announcing the new board he declared the club would be meeting with the council to discuss buying the stadium, a meeting which the council said wouldn't take place, sometimes wonder if there's more to that than Dulieu being useless.

you’ve said it’s nothing to do with the council

Ranson milked them for all he could get then buggered off. He wanted to play at being a chairman with someone else's money-when the tap was turned off he wisely left very quickly

The Hyam stuff really isn’t great listening really, and you talk of not paying a tax bill was an anomaly…. It’s fucking amateur

TTP arrangements are common practice and acknowledged by HMRC as an accepted proposal

It's better than companies taking out COVID low interest bank loans when they don't need them

The embargo is surely a nonsense as there is one any until January
